Create a stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.

Selecting a Weight Distribution System

The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.

To determine the proper weight rating for a weight distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight distribution system.

Unique Features of Blue Ox SwayPro

Blue Ox SwayPro Spring Bars

Unlike other weight distribution systems, the SwayPro has automatically locking brackets throughout. Both spring bars insert, slotted side up, into the head assembly and then lock securely in place. Removal is just as easy - simply lift the locking pins on the trunnions and slide the bars out. Blue Ox spring bars are interchangeable with each other. If you buy a new trailer or tow vehicle and you need to increase or decrease your capacity, you can simply buy new spring bars instead of purchasing a whole new system.

Blue Ox SwayPro Rotating Latch Brackets

Other systems have lift brackets that require you to apply a good amount of leverage to get them to snap up, which can be difficult and frustrating. With the SwayPro, all you have to do is insert the lift chain into the bracket slot and rotate the bracket with the included wrench until the lock pin engages.

Another feature of the SwayPro is the easy-to-use head. The required pitch is already built into the head, so the only adjustment that may be needed is the placement of the head on the shank. Move the head up or down along the weight distribution shank to achieve the proper height. No additional, fine-tune adjustment is needed, which means no hard-to-access washers or difficult-to-use thumbscrew.

Built-In Tension Stops Sway

Blue Ox SwayPro System with Built-In Sway Control Hooked Up

The SwayPro offers four points of built-in sway control. Within the head assembly, the trunnions are designed to hold the spring bars securely in position, placing just enough tension on them to cause them to constantly force your trailer in line. At the other end of this weight distribution system, the rotating brackets ensure that the lift chains are pulled as taut as possible. In addition, the basic design of the brackets keeps much of the length of the lift chains wrapped up inside of the brackets. Typically, only a couple of links hang down from each bracket. So each chain is held more stable than in traditional weight distribution systems, where more than twice as many links are exposed. This tight, stable design limits the movement of the spring bars so that they can exert more force on your trailer to effectively keep it from shifting side to side. Furthermore, unlike many friction-style sway controls, the SwayPro allows you to back up your trailer without having to remove or disengage the system.

Video Transcript for Blue Ox Weight Distribution BXW1506 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Blue Ox SwayPro weight distribution system with built in sway control. This system has it's own weight capacity of 1,000 pounds, to 1,500 pounds, and a gross towing weight capacity of 15,000 pounds. A weight distribution system is going to help evenly distribute weight over the axles of the tow vehicle and the trailer which is going to offer stability and control. Ultimately a system like this is going to help create a level ride for both the tow vehicle and the trailer. The unit is going to feature built-in sway control, which helps prevent trailer sway. It's built-in so it's not something separate that you have to add on. When it comes to the bars right here, and in relation to the built-in sway control, constant tension is in the trunnions which is going to help force the trailer inline at all times, preventing sway.

Then we're going to have the rotating lift brackets that ensure that the chains are tight and secure to keep the spring bars from moving. Now one of the things that I want to mention as well is unlike many friction style sway controls, the SwayPro allows you to backup your trailer without having to remove or disengage the system. We're going to have the spring steel bars, these are going to flex for a controlled, softer, smoother, and quieter ride. They automatically lock in place and easily remove from the head assembly. To remove it all you have to do is lift up on the pin, and then the bar can slide right out, so it's really nice and easy to do. When you're ready to install and lock it in place just place it in, rotate it until that pin goes into the lock position, so very quick and easy to get those attached, and to get those removed. Now a really neat feature about the SwayPro that I want to be careful to mention is that if you ever get a new or different trailer, you don't have to worry about buying a completely new weight distribution system.

With this system, all you have to do is purchase new spring bars that are going to be appropriately rated for your trailer, all the other components of this system can stay in place, all you have to do is get new bars and then that's all there is to it. Now these bars are marked with a dot system, on the shank end to identify the weight rating, so these bars are going to have 4 dots on them, which means that these are rated for up to 1,500 pounds. Another neat thing about the Blue Ox SwayPro is that you don't have to worry about any pins or clips, the unit is going to feature self locking devices throughout the system. On the back of the head assembly where the bars go in, on each side there's going to a Zerk fitting, a grease Zerk fitting, which allows for easy maintenance, that way you can just attach your grease gun, pump in the grease that's needed, and that's all there is to it. All the grease stays contained inside the head assembly, so no grease gets on the bars, which means that there's no mess to cleanup, and you don't have to worry about grease getting on your hands or on your clothes, so it's all contained in the head assembly. Now the unit is going to come with these unique rotating latch lift brackets, these connect the spring bars to the trailer, by using the chains. What I want to go over real quick is just how they work.

Really nice easy to use design, we're going to have this right here, this is the lock pin, and so to get the bracket into a position to connect the chain you pull the lock pin, and then you rotate this all the way down. What that does is it puts the lift bracket in a position where you can easily connect the chain, there's going to be a groove in here that safely holds the chain in place. So you install the chain, and then you would take the included tool right here, place it over, and then you would keep rotating this until that pin engages and locks the unit in place. It's really really easy to get the chains installed, and to get the unit rotated into the ready-to-use position. These are really nice, they're solid steel construction. To release the bracket all you have to do is pull out on that lock pin, and then rotate it down to disengage the chains.

These are a clamp on design which means that there's no drilling needed. They're also very low profile so that way they won't interfere with frame mounted accessories. When it comes to the head assembly of the unit, and making sure we have the right tilt, you don't have to worry about that because the required tilt and pitch is built into the head assembly, so no adjustment is needed, all you have to do is find the correct placement along the adjustable shank, to achieve the proper height for your setup. No additional fine tune adjustments are needed, which means that you don't have to worry anymore about messing with hard to access washers, thumbscrews, cams, or shim packs, so that's really nice design and feature of the Blue Ox SwayPro. Now the unit is made from a steel construction, it's going to have a power coated finish with a nice little hammered texture, it's going to last a long time, it's going to look great for a long time, and it's going to do a good job at resisting rust and corrosion. The system is going to come with everything that you see here on the table as well as a detailed set of installation instructions, and an owners manual. Jut to go over some of the components real quick about everything I have laid out here. These screws or bolts are designed for the clamp-on installation of the lift bracket, so there's a threaded portion right here that goes through, you tighten those down. It's going to come with 2 different sets, you can use the shorter set for thicker or wider trailer frames, and then you can use the longer set for thinner or more narrow trailer frames, and it's going to have the jam nuts that you would tighten down to make sure that those set screws don't come back off. You're also going to get a reducer sleeve, that goes in this area right here, so the diameter of this hole for your hitch ball; now a hitch ball is sold separately, the diameter right here is going to be an 1 1/4". You can use the reducer sleeve to reduce that opening from 1 1/4" down to 1", so just keep those measurements in mind when choosing the correct hitch ball for this system. It's going to come with everything you see on the table, it's also going to include your hitch pin and clip to get the unit secured inside of your trailer hitch. Now when it comes to the tongue weight rating, we're looking at 1,000 pounds to 1,500 pounds. Gross towing weight rating is 15,000 pounds. The unit is designed to fit inside of a 2" by 2" trailer hitch receiver that is rated for use with weight distribution systems. When positioning the lift brackets, these are going to be positioned about 29" back from the hitch ball along the trailer frame. Now the lift brackets will fit trailer frame width up to 2 1/2", and are only going to take up about 4" along the trailer frame. I want to talk about the shank on this system real quick. This unit features an 11 hole design which allows for a lot of adjustment if needed. You have 11 holes to choice from when getting the head assembly attached to the shank which is a . That's quite a bit when it comes to weight distribution systems, so it's going to allow for full adjustment with this unit. These holes are going to be separated on center by about 1 1/4". I want to take some measurements of the shank length, measuring from the center of the hitch pinhole, to the very front of the shank, That's going to be 11". From the center of the hitch pinhole, to the center of the adjustment holes, that's going to be 10 inches. Then from the center of the hitch pinhole to the back of this upright bar, that's going to give us a measurement of right on 9". Again, 11 hole design, allows for a lot of adjustment. With the unit in the rise position, if we have the head assembly at the highest setting, it's going to give us a maximum rise of 13", that's measuring from the inside top edge of the receiver tube of the hitch, or the top of the shank right here, to the top of the ball platform. If we flip the shank over into the drop position, and move the head assembly at the lowest setting, it's going to give us a maximum drop of 7 1/2". Again from the inside top edge of the receiver tube of the hitch, or the top of the shank, to the top of that ball platform. Then the holes again are separated on center by 1 1/4", 11 hole design, a lot of adjustment is there is needed. The product is made right here in the USA, and it's going to be covered with a limited lifetime warranty. That's going to do it for today's look at the Blue Ox SwayPro weight distribution system, with the built-in sway control.

I decided to give a SwayPro hitch a try when I purchased a new TT (37' TT). The previous two Equalizer hitchs (24' TT and 33' TT) I had owned worked fine, but I hated having to stop and get out to tighten/loosen the anti-sway device when having to maneuver around and they were noisy. I installed the SwayPro myself, it was very easy to do. The instructions are clear, and the online videos very helpful. I waited to make this review until after making a couple of trips with the trailer. The trailer is very locked in behind the vehicle and that sucking over as a large vehicle goes past was non-existent, was very surprised and happy. I expected a little of this since this trailer is taller and longer than my last ones. Love being able to remove the equalizer bars and store in the trailer compartment without worrying about getting grease everywhere. Super easy to get hooked up and ready to go. I spent a few dollars more getting the SwayPro. Every extra dollar was worth every penny, this is a great hitch design with many advantages, wish this had been my first equalizer type hitch. 567629

Easy to install. I was very curious as to how this would work as both a weight distributing hitch and sway control all in one. I was very surprised. I have used it on 3 trips on a 4 lane highway at highway speeds and with being passed and passing tractor trailers, it performed extremely well. I would recommend to anyone wanting a weight distributing hitch and sway control in one unit. 350658

I purchased the Blue Ox Sway Pro (15,000 lbs GTW) clamp on to pull my 14K tilt bed PJ T6 trailer. The trailer is a 6 inch C channel frame trailer. I worked with Troy who was very helpful and assured me that I would get the Blue Ox in time for a trip within the next 4 days. The shipping was very fast and I received it in just 2 days. However, I did not understand the clamp on set up is only for box framed trailers. Therefore the clamp on lift brackets would not work correctly. I did not see this information anywhere on the site regarding which trailer frame type is right for the various setups (box or C channel). I called Etrailer after finding this out and was told I could purchase the bolt on lift brackets separately but I would basically eat the ones I had. So my weight distribution hitch would now cost me NOT HAPPY. Be sure to ask about the type of lift bracket attachment for your trailer frame type. 438432

I purchased this hitch system to pull a 10,500 pound V-nose enclosed 8.5'x28' - 8' high trailer. I had to purchase the 1500 pound tongue weight system and because of the cargo that's loaded. I had to cut off 3 inches of the bottom of the receiver, because it hung down to low. I pull all of this with the 2016 ford F150 Max trailer package which sits lower than a heavy duties, that's where I attribute having to cut off 3 inches because it was scraping into the ground as I drove. Other than that issue this hitch system all but removes every bit of sway up to approximately a 45 mile an hour side wind. It is so simple to back up with the system as well, not having to remove the bars is awesome. If you are trailering anything with the F1 50 you should also purchase a spring package for the rear leaves to help with the tongue load is well. Now that we worked The bugs out it is a great system and will continue to use this on all trailers until something better comes along, I could not recommend this enough !!!! 421202

I just received this yesterday, and will be using it this weekend to tow a 34 1/2' Toy Hauler home from Virginia. It is extremely heavy/well made and the powder coating looks like it was applied very well. Should be a great W.D. hitch system that will last for many years 310976

The BEST Purchase I've made thus far!! Once I installed the new hitch system I can honestly say it made a 100% difference! I have a Mercedes ML500 and I pull a 17' Forest River Wildwood X-lite travel trailer. There is no more sag in the middle, both tow vehicle and trailer are level driving down the road and my SUV handles almost as if there is no trailer on the back! I HIGHLY Reccomend the "Blue Ox" System! It's the best! 513835

I bought the Blue Ox BXW1501 SwayPro to pull a 26ft car trailer that I normally haul 7-8000lbs. I was having issues with my trailer swaying at highway speeds when empty. The Blue Ox stopped the sway and smoothed out the ride when loaded. The only issue I have is that once you disconnect the trailer, the weight of hitch is pretty heavy and you cannot drive around with it in. I can carry it but is heavy. I would assume this is an issue with any sway bar set up, but just thought I would mention. 402421

I have been very happy with the performance of this hitch. Our first time out I was on a cross wind that was very harsh and was worried with my 36'. Unlike other trailers on the road, I was not fishtailing. I was still fighting the wind, but was not all over the road had I used a different setup. My only issue is the difficulty of getting the chains on and off without them popping. Other than that, I highly recommend for stability!!! 299824

The etrailer.com support before and after that sale was the BEST! Hard to believe how GREAT these people are!!!! The videos made installation easy. I am amazed how well built and HEAVY the Blue Ox is. I had to adjust the hitch height a few times, but now that it is done, I have NO problem quickly setting up the Sway Pro. It seem to perform well with pulling my Airstream and I consider the Blue OX well worth the money for the extra control and safety it provides. 226322

I have had the Blue Ox 2,000 lbs WD hitch for a little over 1 year. My previous WD hitch was under capacity based on the tongue weight of my 37 ft travel trailer. This hitch has greatly improved the pulling stability of my trailer over the previous set-up. It has exceeded my expectations. 451573

This system works great. Needs to have a better system to lock in the parts that go on your trailer rails. Sometime they come loose.

Bought the Sway Pro to replace a hitch that had separate sway control. The Blue Ox works better on the road as trucks pass us and I really like backing up without loosening the sway friction. This Blue Ox WDH does not come with a ball. Had to have U-Haul tighten the 50mm nut on the 2 5/16” ball. Odd torque value for the hitch bolts too? Etrailer matched the prices and delivered in TWO days! 447330

The unit is quite heavy and you need to make sure you have the space to mount the chain take-up brackets (the proper distance down the trailer arm), other than that the unit is fairly easy to use and stopped my 14 foot Sportsman Travel Trailer from swaying when traveling 70 mph. Before I added the anti-sway unit it was a scary proposition to travel over 60 mph. Felt a little like you were losing control of the trailer. Now, I feel more confident that all is well. William,The system you received is correct. Blue Ox has updated their weight distribution system and removed the thumb screw to help simplify the install and set up. Blue Ox has found that the tilt built in to the system is sufficient for the WD system. Well be updating the photos as soon as their available.

The hitch was delivered today. Everything arrived in good condition and I was pleasantly surprised that the hitch has a 2 1/2" shank. The hitch seems to be very well made. The welds are nice and the finish (powder coat?) looks great. I'm looking forward to getting this mounted and taking the trailer out for a trip. 214850

The hitch works very well. Im not a fan of the wrench Blue Ox supplies to rotate the cams. I had a situation where the pin didnt lock the cam in place due to dirtsnow/ice but didnt notice. When I relaxed the tension on the cam, it rotated back down and smacked my had against the frame rail. I now use a 15 breaker bar with a 3 extension to give my hand some clearance- just in case it happens again!

Had to replace this hitch due to ineffective sway control. Although, some issue may have been with a new lightweight trailer with low hitch weight. 408664

The hitch was delivered in just a few days, earlier than expected. The hitch was exactly as described. The dealership attached the hitch to our Keystone Outback 298RE and Excursion without any problem. Our trip from Ohio to Colorado went without incident even though we traveled through wind, rain and snow. Hooking up the trailer with the SwayPro was no problem and very easy to use. 68467

After owning a couple other hitches including a Hensley the Blue Ox distribution hitch is my favorite and probably the only hitch I will own. Hooking up is easy enough however I would suggest using a socket attached to a break-over bar rather than the supplied wrench (just my opinion). I pull a 30ft Classic Airstream with a 3/4 ton HD Chevy Duramax and the Blue Ox with this combination is excellent. The only negative thing I have found about the hitch is over time it tends to get a little rust here and there so keep wiped down or touched up with similar paint. 321837

I have both an Equalizer and this Blue Ox hitch. I purchased the Blue Ox after I complained of a poor ride with my travel trailer to the dealer. They recommended Blue Ox instead. Frankly it didn't improve the ride at all. Worse, the bars hung so low that they scraped on every speed bump. However this was exacerbated by the way I had to set it up to make the ride at least tolerable. I have now changed travel trailers and tried both hitches on the new one. The new travel trailer sits significantly higher and rides much better. I don't have the problem of the bars hitting the ground. The ride also seems much better then when I use the Equalizer. The final problem I have with this hitch is the that saddle that holds the chains seems to stick very frequently and requires that I release the pin and force it to release the chain with the provided wrench - resulting in frequent minor injuries. Not sure why this happens but I'm getting better at forcing the release with no injuries. Just irritating. 289769

Installation was straight forward. I have not had a chance to tow with the new hitch, but I am looking forward to not hearing all the pops and snaps I heard with the old Husky. I also am looking forward to better sway control. Thanks etrailer! 226321

For Etrailer, A+ for excellent customer service as usual! Shipping was very quick. Regarding the hitch, I think this one is going to be a real winner. Installation was quick and easy. Anyone with basic tools can easily install and setup this hitch. The only thing most people won't have is the 1 7/8" socket needed to tighten the nut that secures the ball to the hitch itself. You'd also need a torque wrench or impact wrench that can achieve [specs]. Instead, I just took it to a local shop. It took them two minutes and they didn't even charge me. After installing and setting up the hitch, I took measurements of the height of the truck's front fender both hitched and unhitched. It was exactly the same, which as I understand is ideal. Without any weight distribution, the front of the truck rises about 1/2" when you drop the trailer on the ball. I haven't towed with the new setup yet, but I expect it to do really well based on what I'm seeing so far. I'll come back and update after my first trip next week. 360559

I have been installing the hitch and the 26000 lb 2&5/16" ball that I ordered. All went well until I tried to install the ball which has a 1& 7/8" nut which requires a socket to tighten the nut in the hitch enclosure. Not having that size socket I could not find one that size in the local retail stores. I have resorted to buying an Altrade socket on line from Home Depot for $14. Hopefully it will fit in side the hitch nut enclosure. 145514

First one was super easy to install, although it is absolutely heavy. Adjustment was easy. Attaching and detaching to the trailer is easy. I am at the maximum towing capacity of my truck, and this hitch works. No sway, no lift in the front. The back does squash down quite a bit, but I have a 100% stock suspension; no airbags. My hitch was stolen. Someone broke the lock and removed it. I quickly purchased another one. This would have been a 5 star rating, except for the shank of the second hitch. There seems to be too much powder coating on the shank. Even with some persuasion, I am unable to put the shank into the receiver. I submitted an issue to etrailer and look forward to hearing from them soon. I have had nothing but great dealings with etrailer and when I had to purchase the second hitch, I went straight back to them. 273180

Review from a similar Blue Ox SwayPro in Weight Distribution

I have had the Blue Ox BXW1003 for a year now and overall we are pretty happy with it. With our previous camper (Dutchmen) we were using a Draw-Tite WD hitch with a separate friction sway control bar. When we bought our new Jayco camper, we had a different A Frame design (underslug coupler) and it is a much bigger camper so we needed to upgrade the hitch. We liked chain style connection of the Draw-Tite but didn't like having to get out and remove the friction sway control bar when backing into a site. With the Blue Ox we just pull up to the site, someone hops out to guide clear the site as we back right in. It is nice to have a chain setup because there are times where I need more spring assist than others. For instance, we dry camp from time to time and have an A Frame Shelf above the propane tanks for our generator. The dealer recommended the Blue Ox over the equalizer because of this changing load requirement and it has worked. The only reasons I am not giving it 5 stars is because there are times where I have to fight with the release pin a bit. You have to turn the cam a bit to get it to release. It isn't a big deal and doesn't happen all the time but enough to stick in the back of my mind. The tool for turning the cam is a bit short and because of the A Frame shelf I have to be careful about where I put it on or as I turn the cam, it could pinch my hand up against the shelf mount. Like many people, I just got a big socket and breaker bar to replace the included tool. In my case I already had the breaker bar for torquing the wheels so I just needed a socket. Because the socket pivots it can't pinch your hand and is longer so more leverage. Also a drawback is because of the design, if we were get a new trailer that maybe doesn't use an underslung coupler, but the same weight as our current camper, we would have to buy a new hitch as well. This is because there are different models based on hitch type, where an Equalizer can be adjusted to accommodate either coupler style, the Blue Ox can't. Sure you could probably replace the parts needed to convert it or just buy a new one. This is a minor thing in my book and the nice part about this is that it makes it much easier to set up at home since there are not as many points of adjustment. If we didn't change our load frequently depending on where we are going and traded in campers every other year, then we would have been better off going with the Equalizer. For us the Blue Ox was the better fit. I will say that before buying I contacted Blue Ox's Customer Support as I had a question. I wanted to make sure I had the right model to work with the coupler on our camper. I was 80% sure I was right but didn't want to get there to pick it up and find out it wasn't the right one. Not only did they clear that up but the rep reached out to engineering and asked about my tow vehicle so they could verify that the included drop hitch was the right one. Which wasn't even a question that I had. 477291

So far the product works as advertised and was fairly east to install. It is far easier than other systems that we have had to hitch and unhitch. There seems to be little to no sway while trailering our 35' TT. As always etrailer was fantastic and delivered exactly as promised faster than expected. I will continue to use etrailer in the future. The only suggestion that I have for this product is that the tool for locking the chains up would be even better if the handle was rubber dipped. 62103

Have not installed hitch yet but it is a high quality item. The main reason for this review is the incredible service I got with etrailer. I had questions and called on a Saturday afternoon. The representative was able to answer all my questions except one. She explained the manufacturer, being a Saturday, was closed and ask if she could call me back on Monday with an answer. As she promised she called Monday with a complete answer for the question. At which time I order the product. This was a heavy, expensive hitch. Here it is Wednesday and it has arrived. UNBELIEVABLE SERVICE! I recieved several emails with progress on the order and could not be more pleased. Their price was the best I could find. I look forward to buying from them again when needed. Ashley the rep, that helped me was top notch and very knowledgeable with regards to the products. Thank you Ashley and etrailer. 475788

I replaced a broken old Eaz-lift hitch with this one on a 10k cargo trailer. The difference in ride quality is night and day. Well worth the step up in price. I feel like I'm driving a Cadillac compared to before. Set-up was easy, instructions were clear and concise. I greatly enjoyed not having to set the angle as it is built in. (Less to adjust, less that can go wrong/break). I do a lot of backing up at sharp angles as I use my trailer for food deliveries in tight spaces behind small restaurants/stores. I've not had any issues with this hitch while doing so. My load weights also vary greatly from beginning to end of day (full vs. empty). It is as smooth empty as it is full. The bars have a broad tongue weight rating range which works great for my application! I've not had it long enough to comment on long-term durability, but it is built tough and engineered smart. I expect it to last as long as I do. You get what you pay for. Great product! 172406

Review from a similar Blue Ox SwayPro in Weight Distribution

Have used the SwayPro for 1 year now and overall very satisfied. I tow a 23' Airstream which weighs about 5500 lbs. The receiver hitch mount that comes with the SwayPro was unable to get the ball low enough as instructed in the Install Instructions so I gave Blue Ox a call and they immediately shipped out the one I needed and I shipped them the original. The BO SwayPro is fairly easy to operated and is quiet. I will say that it does not eliminate sway, I have tried several different adjustments but anytime I drive above 65mph, especially in headwinds or gusty conditions, sway is possible. The sway is manageable by slowing and never gets too bad but it will make you grip the steering wheel tighter. I was not surprised by this, just had a hard time shelling out the $2500 needed for the non-swaying hitches. 407456

Comments

The Blue Ox is performing fine, it does not eliminate sway but as long as I drive 65 mph or less, sway is rarely an issue. As you go over 65 sway can happen with adverse winds, semis passing, or poor road conditions. One other nuisance, is when I attempt to disconnect the chain on the right side, the chain sometimes gets wedged in the metal channel that you rotate and will not release. Usually I have to spray the area with a lubricant and then rotate the whole “chain engaging device” back and forth and the chain will become unstuck so that I can get the bar off. All else is fine, sometimes I do wish I had bought the Pro Pride but that seems a bit too complicated, heavy and expensive.

Review from a similar Blue Ox SwayPro in Weight Distribution

Let me start off by saying why I wanted sway control. My first trip up Oregon's I5 between Eugene and Portland with my 28' Komfort Lite trailer in a moderate cross breeze, lots of semi's and fast traffic. Not a good first time experience, slowed from 60mph to 50mph to make it tolerable for me. Saw other trailers zoom by me at much faster speeds and looked to be pretty solid-no sway. Had no clue which system to choose, so I looked at all that was available on the site. Many looked very complex and the reviews on each were mostly positive. So, I choose to go simple with the Blue Ox, easy 20 min bolt on. Did have to make a 1/2" adjustment on the latch brackets, as per the instructions, to have the chains straight up and down. I haven't been on the road yet, but my initial hook up attempt has highlighted a couple of issues. First, with all the tongue weight on the TV, there is no way you will be able to attach the chain where you want it. No biggie, as with the old system, just use the tongue jack to raise everything up until you can get to the link you want. Had to go higher than I was used to, but still OK. Second, when unhooking (again, with weight on tongue jack), knuckles come very close to the spring bar on one side. Don't get distracted when rotating the latch to release the chain! Also, the chain wants to "snap" out of the slot at some point when rotating. I may want to retire the supplied wrench and go with a socket, short extension, and breaker bar just to keep my hands away from these potential hazards. As always, the ordering process was great. Helps a lot when everybody understands what you are trying to do, then convey what you need. Rich 252276

I have been using the Blue Ox SwayPro WD Hitch for 1,500 tongue weight on our 30' Arctic Fox travel trailer for one year now. No regrets as this hitch has been an easy to setup and use and it seems to do it's job nicely. Using with a 27 foot Lance trailer and 2015 Jeep grand Cherokee. Shipping and packing from e trailer great. Hitch well made and easy to install. Replacing a Reese weight distribution hitch w/sway control that wasn't up to the job. Blue Ox controls sway well and tows much more smoothly-vibrations with old hitch eliminated. Only dissatisfaction is with the paint. Several nicks/chips in the paint as delivered and over time some rusting of the latch mechanisms. Called Blue Ox-they said no touch up paint available. Used some Rustoleum that somewhat matches the texture and color. Would really like some OE paint from Blue Ox! 281073

Review from a similar Blue Ox SwayPro in Weight Distribution

Finally got around to installing the Blue Ox Sway Pro hitch with bolt on chain latches. The process was straight forward after viewing youtube vids, taking time to be sure all my measurements were correct. With the bolt on chain latches you do not get many chances to get it right. I could not use clamp on as my V-nose RV did not have room above the frame to clear the clamp on latch.. drilling was a pain as clearances on my frame were tight and I had to go around a electrical junction box on the inside of the frame.. but once on, it was a breeze to set up. The overall quality of the hitch was great and I don't miss having to set the angle of the hitch head (it's fixed) making the only adjustments necessary was hitch height and chain length. I initially set mine up using 9 links on the chain, but once I got out on the road, I noted the RV was riding nose low so I went up to 10 links on the chain. Now the truck and RV are level, the truck rides and handles as I expected. I have not had the rig out on a long haul, so I can't comment about the sway control of the hitch.Truck is a 2013 Ford F150 ecoboost, max tow 3.73 gears, rv is a 6600lb (empty) V-nose 25ft toy hauler. I like the chain latch set up. Easy to use especially on a V-nose trailer. The concept of sway control with the short length chain is feasible and after this week trip (with some interstate time), I will report back if it doesn't work as advertised. All in all I am happy with the hitch and of course happy with the eTrailer purchasing process. 102170

A year later and we have used this hitch many, many times and couldnt be happier with the purschase. Hook up is a breeze. Have had the chance on several occasions to get on the Interstate with the big trucks and wind and the sway control works. I am very pleased with the hitch. Thanks Blue Ox and eTrailer!

The solution for that is to use bolt on brackets like the # RP58305 which allow you to bolt to the side of the frame and not require clearance above the frame.
