Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness.

T-One Connection Location Points Behind Tail Lights

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Tail Light Converter

A tail light converter is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. The tail light converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

No cutting,no splicing!! Just great!!!! Installed on 2003 Mazda Tribute

Very easy to install. The Video shows how easy. No cut wires! Fits over factory wires! A++++

by:

Instructions were very vague, would have had difficulty if I had not viewed the U tube video.

The product was exactly what i needed at a reasonable price and recieved it really fast

thanks Ryan

Great product pretty quick install. The directions are poor and need more pictures or better literature.

2002 Mazda Tribute

Very happy with product.I was suprised when it showed up earlier than expected.worked out great was able 2 work on it on the weekend.thank you so much 4 your prompt service.

by:
2001 Mazda Tribute

How easier could it be. So simple I was done in 15 minutes and plugging in the trailer to check it out.

by:

Great product and so easy to install if you throw the directions in the trash immediately. The video shows you exactly what to do and where everything goes step by step so you'll be done in no time.

by:

This product was an EXACT match for my vehicle and installed just as easily as stated. In fact I was able to instal it in the same amount of time it took to watch the "how-to" video on the product page.

by:
2002 Ford Escape

Great product. The video instructions were very clear. The installation was even easier than the video led me to believe.

by:

Works GreatFast Shipping. Easy Installation. Works Great. Video made it very easy to connect. No splicing. Everything fit exactly.

by:

The wiring harness works great. The instructions that came with it, however, are worthless. The only correct part of the instructions is knowing the passenger side from the driver side. Use the video on etrailer.com. There is also a text of the video instructions. If not for the video, it would have taken twice as long to figure it out.

by:

Easy Installation. The video guide on this website made the installation a breeze. It took me no less than five minutes, and now with this wiring harness I Installed my tailgate light bar. This is a perfect product for any use.

2001 Ford Escape

Got the trailer wiring harness (Part # 118343) for my 2001 Escape. I watched the video, and installation was very easy. The hardest part was getting the tail lights off. Less than an hour of work and I had a great trailer hook up with no wire splicing. Now...its off to the lake with my little boat to catch some fish. Thanks for the prompt shipping and email order and shipping updates. Its ncie to do business with a company that keeps their customers updated on their order. I'll be ordering more from etrailer.com.

by:

I bought a used van that had some electrical issues with the factory trailer wiring. When I came across the installation video for this product, I quickly ordered it. Once I got the item, it was VERY easy to install and works like a million bucks!

No more trailer lighting worries!

by:

The wiring set I got here works perfect long term. I pull my work trailer 24/7.. I think I did have to pay attention while installing it but it works. I had to buy this because the wiring on my car and the wiring on a trailer are different. and this was the solution.

by:
2003 Ford Escape

Plug and play - thank you for the step by step install video.

by:

Excellent product. Exact fit. Pre drilled holes made it easy for this 67 year old woman to install. Good quality. I also ordered the light kit for my 2003 Ford Escape. Easy to install with provided instructions.

I am very pleased with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver and the ball mount I ordered . I use my trailer frequently to haul lumber, fencing, and riding lawnmower, the product is of good quality and I recommend etrailer

Thank you for quick shipping & a fantastic product! Exactly what I needed to complete my trailer hookup!

2003 Ford Escape

Ordered this hitch for my 2003 ford Escape. Placed order Sunday eve standard shipping and received wed. Very happy with the product. Drove the rear wheels up on ramps and installed in about 35 min. Slightly difficult by myself but is possible if you hold one side with you foot! I ordered the bolt guide wire which was to lose but twisted it to tighten the spring end so there was no chance of the carriage bolt getting stuck. The wiring loom was plug and play. Whole install hitch and wiring took 1 hour with the help of you tube video.

by:

Product works and was easy to install with a video guide. Written instructions were extremely confusing. I'm not sure what to do with the grounding wire though, because my 03 Escape did not have a predrilled hole for it...?

Thank you for your review! You can just use the metal screw that came with the kit to attach the ground into the sheet metal behind the taillight.

I was surprised how easy it was to install the trailer hitch and the wiring harness.
It has worked great and saved me over $150. The pictures really helped.

2002 Mazda Tribute

Mazda Tribute 2002 LX. Excellent product. I watch the installation video which was a big help. No need to get under the vehicle and get dirty. All T connectors were exact fit. My panel where the trailer connection comes through was a little different. Still, I just used my 1/2 drill bit and made 4-5 holes and made an oval for the connector to feed through. I used some black tape to repair the cut you need to make in the grommet for the new cable. For the right side, flat cable I made a "T" cut into the grommet. This allowed the grommet to close around the new cable more naturally and helped with the taping. Used it last weekend, worked like a camp!

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 2004 Ford Escape without Factory Tow Package
Trailer wiring harness # 118343 only fits up the 2001 to 2003 Ford Escape and will not fit the 2004 models. The only trailer wiring harness we have listed for the 2004 Ford Escape without the factory tow package is the hardwire kit # 46255 that does require splicing into the vehicle tail light wiring. For a trailer hitch the most popular option is Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 75118. I have linked a video showing an example installation for you. If you plan on doing some towing I recommend...

You may have a ground problem. In your situation, you have a ground that is strong enough to provide some lighting functions but not all. This is called a weak ground. When the taillights and brake lights are used at the same time, it creates the maximum amp load of the lights on the trailer. If a ground problem exists, it will show at this point. The places to check grounds are as follows: 1. The connector on the vehicle should have a ground wire secured tightly to a clean surface on the...

I do have a solution for you, however the 90635 trailer hitch you mentioned is a Hidden Hitch product that is no longer in production. For your 2003 Ford Escape, I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75118. Draw-Tite and Hidden Hitch were/are owned by the same parent company, so this hitch is very similar and will install in the same manner on your vehicle. This is a very nice Class III hitch that will provide a 2 inch receiver opening and a towing capacity of 3,500...

A factory trailer hitch from a 1998 Ford Explorer will not fit on a 2001 Ford Escape. Trailer hitches attach to the frame and the Explorer and the Escape are built on two different chassis. They also have different bumper designs which would interfere with the trailer hitch. If you want to add a trailer hitch to your 2001 Ford Escape, I recommend the Draw-Tite Class III Max Frame Trailer Hitch, # 75118. Tow packages come with additional wiring that often requires additional relays. Since your Escape did not have a hitch on it, it did not come with a tow package and the port that Hopkins part # 30445 uses will not properly function. These harnesses do have a limit as to the amperage they can deliver to the trailer lights. If that limit is exceeded, either a fuse on the Escape will burn up or the converter will burn up.
