Front Suspension Support

SumoSprings helper springs are great for RVs or motor homes that have slide-outs. Slide-out rooms and other heavy front loads can cause front-end sag as your factory suspension compresses under the weight of the load. This means that the front axle is trying to support not only the extra load but also the motor home's weight. And because there is less weight on your rear axle, your rear tires make less contact with the road, which causes problems with traction, steering, and braking. SumoSprings upgrade your vehicle's factory suspension to level your vehicle, improve driving performance, and keep your ride comfortable.

SumoSprings Rebel installed showing separation of 2-piece springs

The innovative 2-piece design of these Rebel springs allows for unlimited suspension travel. This means that there will be more movement in your suspension when you're unloaded or off-roading, which makes your ride smoother and more comfortable.

Each spring has 2 pieces. One piece attaches to the frame of your vehicle. And the other piece attaches to the axle. The pieces come together to provide support when you are carrying a heavy front load. When you're unloaded, they separate so that they don't restrict the movement of your suspension. The closed-cell urethane springs also act like a shock absorber to dampen road vibration.

SumoSprings compressing under load

SumoSprings provide progressive load control - the more you load them, the stiffer they become. With a lighter load, the springs will compress easily for soft engagement and a less bumpy ride. The springs can also compress by as much as 80 percent to support a heavy front load and to help your factory suspension bear up under the load. This evens out the weight, which levels your vehicle and ensures that your rear tires are making better contact with the road. A level ride means that you have improved driving control, ensures safe headlight aim, and helps to minimize sway. The springs also support your factory suspension, which helps prevent sagging and reduces bottoming out.

The springs work independently from one another to support each side of your vehicle. This action helps to reduce body roll when you make a sharp turn. This also helps compensate for an off-center load.

Durable, Custom-Fit Springs

These microcellular urethane springs are tough. They resist abrasion, oil, salt, and UV rays that can more quickly wear out other springs, and they perform well in temperatures ranging from -25 F to 200 F (-33 C to 93 C).

SumoSprings expand and compress vertically with minimum expansion to the sides, so they won't be damaged by nearby mechanical parts, and they fit safely into tighter spots. And unlike air springs, SumoSprings require no maintenance or adjustment.

This kit comes with custom-fit brackets that are designed to easily bolt onto your vehicle.

Sumo springs along with a steering stabizer, new shocks, and oversized sway bars seriously tightens the ride on older model RV with an f53 ford chasis. Long hauls become a lot less strenuous. I also put a memory foam and high density foam seat cushion on the driver's seat. We can travel all over with a lot less fatigue from fighting the wheel and pucker factor from blowing around the road. I took about 3 hours to unstall all 4 sumo springs.

by:

Another very easy installation, if you have excellent drill bits to drill the 3/8 holes in the frame only because it’s a bit awkward to get to

by:
1999 Ford F-53

Worth the wait, they were backordered. UPS dropped them at 10am. We had them installed by 2pm. Install was fairly straight forward and easy. Road test showed a pleasant improvement in handling and smother ride over all. Ride height increased about an inch. Body roll is much less too! Considering doing the back axle now.

The springs are working great.... The ride is smooth and turns are easy also no white knuckle driving.... I can drive the 36 motorhome 75 mph with one had now ... Thanks

by:

Great upgrade. Somewhat like adding air shocks. They really quieted and softened my ride. (F53 gas motorhome chassis)

We still think these are great.

by:

Sumo Springs were probably the best improvement we ever did to our 1999 Bounder 34V. I don't remember how it was for the early years as we have mostly used it as of late, but it got pretty bad on turns, dips, uneven roads and trucks passing by. Sumos completely changed the handling of our RV. My only complaint might be the rears were difficult to install primarily because we have Chinese bits drilling into American steel though. I'm also hoping I don't have any issues with the rears because of the levelers stretching them out. So far after first year no problems.

by:

I added the Sumo springs along with an upgraded front sway bar and what resulted was a very "stiff" ride. I can not separate the effects of the Sumo springs from the sway bar but think the addition of both may have been over-kill. I suggest adding one thing at a time.

by:

We a new Class A owner to a 2004 Coachman. Having no previous experience owning or driving a Class A RV, we were not sure how the unit was supposed to drive/ride. Our first trip was from Indiana to Florida without any changes to the stock RV. When we returned I researched and purchased the Sumo Shocks and installed them myself. The installation was not bad, but the difference in the ride was well worth the money and time.

National

I called because I couldn’t find the right part number on front and back sumo springs for my National RV. Joshua put together a quote in no time. George confirmed my order and walaa I was smooth ridin’ like a dream! Thanks etrailer!

by:
1999 Ford F-53

I installed the SumoSprings today, but don't plan on taking the motorhome out on the road until October. Ask me to rate the product's performance in about a month. I can tell you the installation went well. Everything fit as it should. Drilling the hole in the chassis frame common to the upper bracket wasn't easy but doable. Turning the front of the wheels to the outside gave more working room. I'm not sure why the instructions wanted the hole to be drilled out to 7/16" when the bolts supplied are only 3/8" diameter.

by:

very happy with the ride of the sumo springs it rides much better you feel a lot less bumps and a lot less rattles I would definitely recommend them I put them on the front and the back really happy I did

by:

Good quality. Easy order process. Have used etrailer a few times and always good.

Still a much better ride, especially over washboard roads. They don’t just bolt in but worth the effort to drill a couple of holes and install them.

by:

I think the Sumosprings Rebel will be a good addition to my RV, installation was straight forward but working on these big rigs is somewhat daunting!

by:

The sumo springs are the best investment we have made in our motorhome.

by:

My Class A travels so much better now! One year later and thousands of miles works like the day I installed it. Helpful videos on site. Great Company!!

Front and rear Sumo Springs installed. Have not had a chance to hit the highway as yet. Locally a very good ride. Thanks to Joanne K. for all of her help.

by:

I installed these front Sumos on my 2023 Ford F53 chassis Class A Tiffin for several reasons. The factory bump stops had fallen out so something needed to be installed. I decided to invest in the Sumos to provide suspension support and get all the benefits of Sumos. I installed them, test drove the coach and am pleased with the results. They help cushion the front end and provide anti roll assistance. They work well with the Konis to soften the natural harshness of leaf springs. I’m very pleased with this addition.

by:

I put a small leveling kit in my 2500hd Silverado. I noticed afterwards towing my excavator or dump trailer I was getting some rear sag when I had my trailers loaded heavy. I considered doing air bags for the rear. Instead I installed the sumo springs. I installed them in about an hour. Very happy with them. No noticeable difference in ride quality while empty. And they keep my truck level when I’m hauling my trailers. 5 stars!

  • SumoSprings Versus Timbren Suspension Enhancement For a 2000 National RV Tropi-Cal 6350 Motorhome
I prefer using SumoSprings Rebel Custom Helper Springs # SSF-172-40-2 for the front axle and SumoSprings Maxim Custom Helper Springs # SSR-181-54-1 for the rear of your 2000 National RV Tropi-Cal 6350 motorhome. You have a Ford F-53 chassis with a GVWR of 20,500lbs. I find the SumoSprings work better as they are not as stiff as the Timbren Front # TFFF53MH and Rear # TFRF53A suspension. The stiffer ride the Timbrens give you can lead to more issues inside the camper as they do not absorb...

When comparing the ride quality between the Timbren # TFFF53B and SumoSpring # SSF-172-40-2 I recommend going with the SumoSprings. Although Timbren is a very solid product, the SumoSprings have been proven to have more of a forgiving support over the Timbrens. This is supported by great reviews and feedback from customers. For your specific application the SumoSprings are installed so that half of each spring is on the top and the other half is on the bottom so when contact is made it...

Yes, the SumoSprings Custom Helper Springs will help to smooth out the ride on a Ford F-53 Chassis. The anti-sway bars and steering stabilizers help with stability but don't really do much for ride quality. The springs however work as a cushion between the body and frame therefore offer improvements in ride quality. The correct kit for the rear is part # SSR-185-40-1 and part # SSF-172-40-2 for the front. I suggest the rear if only doing one but both is better.
