  • Designed to work with a suspension system that is in good working order
  • Coil SumoSprings will not increase your vehicle's weight-carrying capacity. Do not exceed the manufacturer's weight limit for your vehicle.
  • Limited Lifetime warranty
  • 30-Day satisfaction guarantee

Insert these helper springs in between the individual coil loops in your rear coil springs to defeat driver fatigue and add better support for heavy loads. Most factory coil suspensions have a difficult time hauling added weight. The rear coils may struggle with supporting the extra load placed on your rear axle when you're towing a trailer or using a hitch-mounted cargo carrier or bike rack. If your coil springs are totally squished under a load, the lack of shock absorption can be harsh on your backside, especially if you spend long hours sitting in your vehicle while driving to your campsite.

Coil SumoSpring installed between rungs of coil spring

Inside each helper spring, a core of microcellular polyurethane foam adds cushioning between your coils to make your ride more comfortable. Each doughnut-shaped spring has H-shaped channels at the top and bottom that fit to the rung of an individual coil in your rear coil springs. The cushioning absorbs shock, but also works progressively to better support weight, keeping your truck level.

Unlike air springs that fit inside your coil springs, these polyurethane springs require no air pressure monitoring, and they are easier to install. Say goodbye to air lines, valves and air tanks and hello to maintenance-free suspension support. Unbumpify your ride with Coil SumoSprings for coil suspensions.

Works exactly how I needed. The Ride is still very nice. There's about 350lbs with the weight of the box & rack. Suspension in the rear used to sag a bunch, even with a 2" suspension lift.

Ive kept them installed for the last year and the cars ride quality has never suffered. Great product!!

by:

I have a 2015 Subaru Outback. When towing it went from a mushy rear end to a nice stiffness. Max tongue weight is 275# and with 220# on a recent trip (~2000# trailer weight) it only squatted the rear end about an inch (after rolling back and forth to let it settle).

Previously I was getting instability above 60mph especially when hitting the bumps at the ends of bridges. On my recent trip I was able to hit 80mph with the car feeling totally planted.

When totally empty you do get just the smallest hint of a 'truck like' ride but I typically carry some tools and other stuff all the time and that dampens it.

For install I found it helped to sort of feed the sumo into the coil as you kinda roll your hand over the part juming into the groove.

by:
2020 Subaru Outback Wagon

Installation was a bit more difficult than anticipated, however, for an 81-year-old guy, most everything is. The SumoSprings work just fine. I feel like they've reduced the sway and increased stability while hauling our Tab320 trailer with our Subaru Outback. Service from eTrailer was fast.

by:

Did not fit the 2022 Subaru Outback as advertised making these a total cash grab on etrailers part. Buyer Beware. Incorrect fitment guide means expensive mistake.

2022 Subaru Outback Wagon

Not easy to install. Took to a trailer shop for installation. Seem to stabilize my vehicle when towing, haven't towed after dark yet to see if oncoming traffic flash their lights at me.

by:
2022 Kia Telluride

They were very easy to install. Yes I use the instructions. They help keep from blinding people from my headlights when I have people in the rear seats. Great product.

by:

The product itself was the best quality I could expect.
The website on the other hand repeatedly assured me this would install on a 2015 Honda CR-V. Which it will not.
I tried it myself and also took the vehicle and parts to a mechanic in town and all persons involved with the garage agreed this wouldn’t be a good idea to install.
The spring helpers could be jammed in around the struts but would rub and bind on the inner body of the vehicle.
The short answer here is the rear suspension on my vehicle has struts not plain old coil springs not to mention the clearance lacking the install.
The appointment with the mechanic was a couple months out and took me past 30 days for a return of the product so I still have them rolling around in my trunk.
Not the best experience overall.

by:

Absolutely not worth it at all... Initially great but after 15-20 min of load the rear sunk back down to where it was and the sumo spring never recovered. I ended up tossing them and buying a set of coil springs from Ralitek. Do not waste your money.

by:

They were nice for a while, but came out while driving under normal conditions. Lost one down the road. Even used zip ties. Your best bet is screw in coil spacers. They won't come out.

by:
2014 Volkswagen Passat

I used the Sumo Springs on a 2014 VW Passat TDI SEL in the rear. I like the product, my car always had that overloaded look I tow a small trailer and the car's suspension was to soft.
The Sumo spring Support works great on my car the car came up about half inch and under load it gives the needed support I was locking for.
I also like that I have not to mess around with any air adjustment and it tis maintenance free.

The install was easy and I was done in about 45 minutes. The toughest part was to cut it for the instructed length for my car.

by:
2015 Toyota Prius

Installed sumo springs on my 2007 Toyota Prius. They installed fairly easily in about 15 minutes per wheel. I had to trim approximately 3 inches off of each sumo spring. I used ivory soap bar to lubricate the springs before install. The rear of the car was raised maybe 2 inches as a result. I do not notice any adverse changes in the handling of the vehicle when not loaded. Moving cross country soon and need to load up vehicle so not bottoming rear springs. overall very pleased with the product. Received Quick delivery of product from etrailer.

by:

Installed pretty easily. The trick is to start at the bottom of the spring and push it up. Didn’t need to apply any soap but springs were pretty clean to begin with (38K miles). The kit did not come with zip ties even though the etrailer description says it should, but the Sumosprings documentation clearly states they are not included.

by:

They did buffer the spring compression but they were notably more difficult to stay put than expected. These didn't come with a slot for zip ties so I had to make my own. If you're like me and wanted to cheap out on new spring coils for a short term use application it'll get the job done.

by:

Performed as expected!

by:

Very little difference when driving. When loaded it makes a big difference! Thanks!

by:
2008 Volkswagen Passat

Sumo Springs are working well so far. Using these on a 2008 VW Passat. It keeps the back slightly higher with a heavy load in the back or a trailer attached, so it's less frequent that I scrape the trailer Hitch

by:
2021 Subaru Outback Wagon

Seem to do what they say, my Subaru’s suspension seems a bit firmer when under load from my boat.

by:

Awesome! I would suggest anyone with a mid sized SUV to use them if you do road trips. Packed folull with a motorcycle it this made it far more manageable and far safer on the road. Better control and less float.

Installation wasn't too bad but it's a tight fit so use plenty of soapy water and be patient.

by:
Subaru Outback Wagon

Helped stabilize my Outback while towing. Noticeably less bouncy.

by:
2011 Toyota RAV4

Installed in a 2011 RAV4 V6 FWD, and they do a wonder for taking some of the roll and sway out of turning, and soften a lot of the bumps and jolts from poorly-maintained roads. They also cut down a lot of the "rearing up/porpoising" that comes from accelerating out of a stop with the FWD. It keeps the ride height level, as well.

by:
2002 HondaCR-V

It took a bit of doing to get them on my 2002 Honda CRV, in the rear, bit it was worth the effort. Not sure how well they keep the car rear end from sagging but I definitely noticed the car is much more stable cornering. Hugs the road much better.

by:
Subaru Outback Wagon

We have had these on our 2021 Outback and they have been great. The car does not squat nearly as much as it used to when we put our utility trailer on it. There was also no difference in the ride without the trailer.

Received these today, and they look as advertised EXCEPT there are no perforations between the upper and lower grooves for securing to the springs with zip ties. They were to go on our ‘21 Outback xt, but I plan on returning them. Hopefully they can be exchanged for a set with the perforations, and I can change to an excellent rating.

SuperSprings updated the coil springs and they no longer come with zip ties. They are designed to pop into place and are held there by the groove in the coil spring.

I installed the Sumo spring helpers on a 2018 Subaru Outback. The installation was straight forward and took me less than an hour. The installation with this model car is tight and at first I didn’t think the helpers would fit because of the shock boot cover and the wheel well molding. However, you need to work the helpers into the springs at the bottom 2 turns, cut with a buck knife, fasten a zip tie to each end and then thread the helper up the springs to the top 2-3 turns as stated by the instructions. A little tip that made my install easy was to cut the leading top inside edge, 1/4 inch or so, at an angle. This enables the leading upper back edge to easily slip under the spring and then it is super easy to work the remainder in place.

The helpers seemed to lift the back end about 1.5-2” and the ride is so much better since the back suspension is firmer and doesn’t bounce so much on bumpy roads. I tried it out on some speed bumps also, awesome!.

I should have taken before and after pictures but was in a hurry to get the install done and load the car for a nomad camping adventure. My reason for wanting to install the Sumo helpers is because we recently took a trip to Bears Ears,UT and had to carry 30 gallons of water, with a hitch cargo box and the Outback fill road. ed with essential camping gear. The load was within Subaru weight specs but the back end was definitely sagging and driving at highway speeds was a bit nerve racking. The car is loaded again, albeit with everything except only 2-6 gallon jerry cans, and the back looks and feels much safer. I would highly recommend this product to solve the back end sag and unsafe bounce when carrying weight in the middle to upper range of Subaru weight specifications.

I will get pictures next time I have the tires off but had to load and hit the road.

My question is why are the Sumo helpers only recommended for the rear?

Etrailer Expert

Heather A.

These are designed to help support the load of the rear especially when towing. When towing some vehicles experience rear sag and these help support the weight to keep the vehicle level.

  • Why Arent Trailer Hitches Offered for 2018 Subaru Outback Rated for Weight Distribution
The prohibition against weight distribution is mentioned in the owner's manual, which is why the available hitches including the # C13410 aren't rated for weight distribution. Typically, when a vehicle manufacturer does this, it's because the under body structure of the vehicle could be compromised by the leverage that the weight distribution system would apply to the hitch and it's mounting points to the vehicle. This being said, if you're concerned about the amount of sag that the trailer's...

The SumoSprings Custom Helper Springs for Coil Spring Suspension # CSS-1125R that you referenced are indeed a correct fit for the rear coil springs on your 2003 Honda Pilot. These microcellular polyurethane foam springs are intended to help support a suspension that is in good working order for times when it is carrying loads. When the Pilot is not under load, these springs will essentially be inactive; their resistance grows progressively with increased weight load. So, they will help...

A suspension enhancement product like the SumoSprings # CSS-1125R or Firestone Coil-Rite # F4174 are primarily designed to suspend the weight of cargo carried in the vehicle itself. It's not always the best choice for counteracting the vehicle squat caused by the tongue weight of a trailer being applied to the vehicle.
