Firestone Ride-Rite Air Spring Basics

Firestone Ride-Rite springs are designed to increase safety and reduce the strain on your vehicle when you are hauling heavy loads or towing a heavy trailer. The springs partner with your existing rear suspension system to help keep your vehicle level, maintain even load distribution and increase stability. Hauling heavy loads or towing a heavy trailer can make the rear of your vehicle sag and the front end rise. This puts more strain on your rear axle and reduces contact between your front tires and the road, causing problems with braking, steering control and traction. By adding air springs to your rear suspension, you can help to level your vehicle and improve braking and handling. The air springs also help to level your headlight beams and reduce wear on your tires.

Firestone Ride-Rite air spring airline installation

Adjustable Air Pressure

The air pressure in your Ride-Rite springs can be adjusted manually, side to side, to compensate for off-center loads. A centered load improves the stability of your vehicle by reducing body roll. The air springs will also help to absorb road shock and to soften contact between your axle and frame. This prevents bottoming out, thus improving ride comfort. Route the air line tubing for the springs to your vehicle's bumper to provide easy access to the manual inflation valves.

Firestone Ride-Ride air spring components

Air Spring Construction

Firestone's double-convoluted Ride-Rite air springs are designed to give you maximum load support and enhance the performance and ride comfort of your vehicle. The rubber springs provide cushioning between your suspension components and operate at up to 100 psi. The springs have four layers of reinforced rubber to ensure durability and enhance load support. A braided wire girdle creates the double-convoluted shape of each air spring, increasing the burst pressure of the spring. The rubber springs are attached to corrosion-resistant metal end plates with a time-proven, rolled crimp seal that keeps the bags securely anchored.

Air Spring Installation

Each Ride-Rite kit includes custom-fit brackets that connect to your axle and frame. The brackets provide the mounting points for the air springs. Drilling may be required for some applications.

Video Transcript for Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs - 2007 Dodge Ram 1500

Today we are working on a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500, we will be installing Firestone Air Spring Kit part number F2286. Per the instructions it is not necessary to take the wheels off the vehicle, but we found that this application is much easier if you do so. Our first step will be to remove the manufactures bum stops. They are two fasteners, one on each side. Now that we have our bum stop removed, we will come over to our air bag and get it set up. :33

Our first step will be to install our angle valve. There are two points of interest when installing your angle valve. One, you want to make sure you get it seated securely all the way into the sealant that is already on the angle valve. Two, we want to make sure it is pointing in the direction of where we are going to install our air line. When in the truck, our air bag will sit similar to this. Next we are going to install the heat shield, this is only necessary on the passenger side, and then our top mounting bracket. We will hold those two on with flange nuts. Before we fully tighten down our upper mount, we are going to take our mounting bolt and slip it in there, as the heat shield my be in the way to get it installed later on. We can go ahead and tighten them down now. 1:20

With our top mount set up we can turn it over and mount the bottom. You can see there are two holes here, we will use the one that lines up best with the axle and the orientation of the top mount. We will install it finger tight at this time. Now we can go ahead and set our new bag in the vehicle. With our upper mounting bolts lined up, we can go ahead and tighten them down. You will notice here that our forward most hole lines up best with our lower bracket, bag, and upper mount. So we are going to go ahead and tighten it down now. With our bag set, we can go ahead and put on our hardware for our lower mount. Now I can go ahead and install the bail clamp and wrap around the shackle bracket and go through our lower mount. We will install two flange nuts to secure it. We can tighten these down now. When tightening down your bail clamp you want to make sure that you do it evenly. With our bail clamp tightened down we can install the bolts for our lower clamp. One on the front and backside of the lower bracket. Once again we want to make sure we tighten it down evenly. With all of our hardware fastened and tightened down, it is time to run our air line. 2:56

When running our air line we want to stay away pinch points, such as moving parts in the suspension and the heat from the exhaust. It looks like our best avenue for running this airline is through our frame. With the majority of our air line run, we are going to locate a simple mounting point for our air fitting. We are going to mount our air line to the back bumper here. We will drill a pilot hole, and then a larger hole to put our fitting in. With our hole drilled we can install our air fitting. Put a washer over it, install our nut, and tighten it down. Now we can get back underneath our vehicle and install our air line. The key when making your air line connection is to make sure your cut is clean, not crimped. Push in, give it a slight pull to make sure it is locked in. Then lets go back to our air bag. Figure out our length, take my tubing cutter and cut my air line to fit. Push it in, give it a tug. Our airline is installed. Take a zip tie and secure our line in the back and cut off the extra. Put some air into the back and check for leaks. With our air line checked and everything installed, that finishes our install of Firestone air bags part number F2286.

I recieved my air bags a couple of days ago. They were super fast with delivery and everything was accounted for. Installed it myself on my 2005 ram 1500 4x4. Took around four hours. Simple instructions to understand. As soon as I completed the installation I hooked up a heavy gooseneck trailer and with jus ten lbs. of air it leveled the trailer and never dropped and inch more. Even when loading a horse into the front of it. I I havent pulled the gooseneck yet put pulled a bumper trailer and it handled well... even with out a load I can tell the difference with them on... very well made product and would recommend to anyone. Very satisfied customer right here. 122885

I really like the product. I have hauled a gooseneck several times in the past year with five horses in it and it performed well beyond my expectations. Very pleased.

Kit arrived within three days of order. Installed on 2006 Dodge Ram 1500. Everything installed just as the instructions indicated. My only problem was trying to remove the original frame bolts that held the rubber frame bumper. The bolts were rusted so bad, two of them snapped off while trying to remove. I was able to ease the remaining two off. Inserted two new bolts, then tack welded the new mount to the frame on the side of the busted bolts. Great product so far, will test with a full load this weekend. I pull an enclosed trailer and need the additional support. 166553

Review from a similar Firestone Ride-Rite in Vehicle Suspension

I have purchased several items from etrailer and always impressed with their accuracy and speed of delivery. They have high shipping costs to Alaska so have not been able to use them except when in the lower 48. Installed on a 1-ton Dodge dually used to either carry a 4600 lb truck camper, pull a 11000 pound fifth wheel or tow a 10000 trailer. The truck camper really sat the truck on the axle and the recently installed Timbrens made matters even worse. When I hit a dip or bump it sounded like there were no springs what so ever. Installed the air springs and now I get a much improved ride and have not bottomed out to date. I installed the air springs in Oregon and drove to Homer Alaska over some pretty rough roads. Great ride!!! 88865

I still have the highest opinion of the air shocks! Been many miles and always loaded. Not one time have I had to add air and perform the same as they did when I first put them on. These shocks really tamed the load. Would not own a large truck camper without them.

These air bags are a must for carrying a load to make your truck handle better. Empty, I run at 5 lbs and only change I notice is the truck rides about a inch higher. The install went real smooth with the directions easy to under stand. Shipping was very fast and communication to let me know how and when the package was to arrive. 104545

Good product could use better instructions for installation. Would be better if they placed them as 1.2.3. instead of paragraph sentences. The videos are helpful if they play properly. Took about 3 hours to install. Camping world wanted $150 to install them. 93671

i just bought a 2010 silverado with 6 lift. is that what you got as well i cant tell from your pics.did you have to buy or make a extension mount for the fram braket?

If you truck has a 6 inch lift you might consider using the Firestone Lift Spacers # F2375. This kit is designed to work with kits that mount to the axle on your truck like how the Firestone Ride-Rite # F2250 install.

Installed on a 2009 F-250 SD. Installation was difficult. Only because I didn't have access to a lift. Product is well built. It provides the rear suspension support I was looking for. Added bonus is my 3/4 ton rides smoother now. I pull a 35 foot travel trailer and a golf cart in the bed of my truck. I noticed the added weight of the cart was lowering the back end of my truck and affecting the steering. Not much, but enough where I needed to do something. There was one problem with the instructions/diagram. When assembling the bottom bracket pieces, the diagram showed the bolt heads on the outside. I had to reverse them in order to clear the jounce stop to get proper alignment with the top bracket. See photos. I also found a leak on one of the connections on top of the drivers side air spring. I pressured both springs to 40 pounds and let sit over night. There was a 20 pound drop on drivers side the next morning. I applied a kids bubble solution with a syringe ( works great) to find the leak. since there is sealer on the threads, I just gave it about 3/4 turn. Problem solved. Overall, I think this is a great product which I would recommend. 221059

Took a few hours to get it completed, and went in as described. Have not had opportunity to test them out under load, but figure they would perform as expected. Instructions were not totally accurate, 4 bolts had changed size (to a smaller bolt than listed), but anyone with common sense could figure it out. (I did. LOL!) Wish "they" had included a "T" to inflate them equally, but purchased one at Lowes for about $6. I also "beefed up" the hose around sharp corners to protect them from getting damaged. 131693

Working great! Added an on-board compressor to the unit and use it to tow Travel Trailer. Does not get a LOT of use, but when it does, its great!

Product was as described. Installation video was most helpful as were the written instructions. Bending the bolt plates was absolutely necessary and was the most difficult part of the installation. I dropped one inside the frame, after retrieving, 30 minutes later, I drilled small holes in the handles and put a piece of wire thru them so they could be easily retrived if dropped again. Tested as recommended with 70 lbs of pressure and the truck's rear end popped up about 4-5 inches! Can't wait to try then with the trailer! 128198

I put the load levelers on a 2008 F250 SuperDuty (diesel). It took me about 4 hours per side, on the grass with no lift or power tools. I could probably do it in two hours per side the next time. The instructions are terse, but correct - the 2011 Ford F250 video was very helpful and resolve all my questions except for one. The bladder(s) have an forward/rearward bracket positioning option constituted by two positioning nubs on the bladder top, and 2 mounting bolt holes on the bladder bottom. I was confused by the positioning option until I actually tested bladder positioning on the installed brackets - the brackets don't line up exactly, so the positioning option was actually a good thing. You have to choose forward or readward depending on how your brackets line up. If your brackets line up perfectly then you still have to choose. I used the levelers on a couple of heavy trailers on fairly long hauls and they work as I expect them to - they: are easy to inflate/deflate, keep my bed level and support a heavy load, and keep my headlights out of everyones eyes. 152985

Review from a similar Firestone Ride-Rite in Vehicle Suspension

The product engineering is great, everything fit perfectly! It was easy to install especially after watching the video on etrailer.com, I hardly had to look at the printed instructions. So far the noise level when unloaded has decreased significantly, and when loaded with a 10k fifth wheel, it has smoothed out the constant push/pull bounce I usually got from the stiff springs. I should note that I have a 2004 Dodge 3500 and I took my factory overload springs off and used this kit to replace it. The factory overload springs would "slap" on the upper supports at times and that is the noise that was eliminated. Now the extra load is on the air bags and that has smoothed out the loaded ride. I only have to run 10 lbs. of air level the truck with the 1300 lb. pin weight. etrailer.com is a good company to purchase this product from, while I didn't need to call customer support, the shipping was super quick even when I ordered on the holiday weekend! Thanks! 150626

Review from a similar Firestone Ride-Rite in Vehicle Suspension

I purchased an air bag suspension system (F2299) and a front hitch (65063) for my truck. Installation of the air bag suspension system was very simple and quick by following the video (excellent aid by the way; I praise e-Trailer to continue including installation videos, it helps a lot). I barely glanced at the instructions, and was just to ensure the order was completed (even though I never received orders with missing/defective parts from e-trailer). I am not in a any way a weekend mechanic or nothing similar, just an average car-truck owner with a bare minimum tools in my shed. Front Hitch installation was very simple too, even though I had to remove front grill to gain easy access to remove or fasten top bolts. Installed both parts in my 2011 Ram 2500 4x4. I'm just waiting the moment to hit the road towing a 34 ft camper to see how it handles. shipping, technical and sales services have been excellent over the years I've been buying from e-Trailer. 163526

Good quality product, instructions are clear and kit was complete. The frame-mounting with the tabs is cheezy, and quite difficult on the driver side where access hole to the frame is obstructed by wiring/hydraulic lines. I recommend a solution that only uses access from outside of frame -- like a toggle bolt... after all the torque was only 20 ft-lb. 79157

Comments

I agree with Rob B on the frame mounting tabs. Definitely a two person job lining up the tabs with the bolts. Other than that it was an easy install and well worth the money. If you are going to haul a heavy trailer this is by far the way to go!

Installed a set today on my 2013 F-150. Nothing about this product is cheezy. I owned a repair shop for 35 years and was impressed with the quality of this kit. A toggle bolt would not replace the steel plate firestone uses for the bracket mounting inside the frame . All in all, a first class problem solver. Lloyd Church Powell Butte, Oregon

Finally got a break in the rain yesterday so I installed the Firestone Ride-Rite air bags on my 2011 Chevy Silverado 1500 4WD. Took about 4.5 hrs to install. My only problem was finding the correct way to remove the jounce bumpers from my truck. Directions state to simply unbolt them, but it took me awhile to figure out that the correct socket was a 10mm since you can't see or feel the bolt. The perfect setup to remove them is a deep well 10mm socket with a universal joint to get the right depth. After that the directions were right on and everthing went together nicely. I used a tubing cutter for the air lines and had no leaks. This is my second truck with air bags and I find them very useful in keeping the truck level and reducing sway while towing a 5th wheel trailer. 36071

So far, so good. These things will hold some serious weight! I haven't had to exceed 6 lbs. yet, even towing cars on a flatbed trailer. The weight distribution setup I have has alot to do with that though. One gripe I have is that is should have came with a T joining both sides, going into a single Schrader valve. I don't like having to try and balance 2 separate sides. Just checking the pressure at lower pressures will release quite a bit of air - not alot of volume in there. If you load your vehicle correctly there should never be a need to have differing pressures on each side. At the very least, the option to choose should be included. Other than that, and a nagging slow leak I have on one side (at one of the quick-connect fittings), they've been great. 172906

The product is high quality. The components are heavy duty, well made and fit together properly. Just beware, this is a time consuming installation that requires lying on your back on a creeper for several hours and doing work requiring some arm strength over your head. If I were doing it again, the kit would go to my mechanic and the young guys would do it with the truck on a lift. Also, removing the jounce bumper on the four wheel drive truck was very difficult. The nut was well corroded on the bolt and it is in a nearly inaccessible position. I ended up using a sawzall with a metal cutting blade to remove them and that wasn't easy. After about seven hours of hard labor flat on my back, the job is done and I am satisfied with the results. 221540

Simple to install, took my time, the brackets of my 5th wheel did not prevent me from installing it, there was room between the custom bracket and my frame, so if you have a Silverado 2012 with custom brackets check to see if you have nearly 1/2 an inch clearance, than you can use this item. Suggestion to etrailer, re-box the item, reinforce the box to ensure that the box and items are not mangled in shipment. the box was a mess, had been re-taped some time along the shipment line, freaked me out where I had to inventory everything and really check for damage, especially the hose, part of it was not serviceable and I had to ensure that I did not use that section which was right in the middle of the hose. Other than that, I am happy with it. 52628

Packaging of this product was fine, and delivery was on time. Pricing very competitive with other internet providers. Etrailer support is as expected....very good. I and my neighbor installed this air bags in my 2009 Silverado 2500 HD Diesel to give me greater support while pulling my fifth wheel trailer (with a tongue weight of 2300 lb). Install took us about 3 hours to complete, with no problems what so ever (not even a leak in the air lines...which I worried about...cut them carefully with a razor knife). After the install and air test, I hooked up my fifth wheel and was pleasantly surprised how the ride improved. Would recommend this product. I put 30 psi in the bags and the results on the suspension we outstanding! 140486

I purchased the helper springs for my 2011 Toyota Tundra for leveling the truck while towing. It took me about 3 hours to install the helper springs and they work great. I attached a photo of my truck with my VW on a U-Haul to show how the helper springs kept the load level with about 50 psi in each helper spring. I pulled the VW a little over 2000 miles, from WI to WA, and never needed to add air (the photo was half-way through the trip). Unloaded, I keep about 5 to 10 psi in the helper springs and the ride is still very smooth. 50874

Installation was pretty easy, instructions were basic. It would have helped to had an example picture of the installed product on the vehicle as part of the instruction booklet. For my truck, the bumpers were bolted to a part of the frame that didn't match the illustrations in the guide. After some looking around (a video on etrailer.com) I found that it was expected. Also, it would have been nice to know how to remove the stock bumpers. I spent a good 30 minutes trying to figure out that it was a 10mm socket up the middle of the bumper (I'm not a vehicle guy). Overall, the product was simple enough to install and I suspect it will be fine, as I'm testing it out tomorrow. 51312

First time takes the longest to figure out and install. This kit included all the parts needed. It included brackets and hardware needed to move brake line away from air bag. Air hose is quality product as are the air fittings which did came with a sealer on the threads. Air line fittings allow the hose to be removed. Everything lined up as designed....almost. I had to enlarge a slot on the bottom bracket so that the air bag sat plumb on the bottom bracket. I had to drill the enlarged hole about 1/2" additional; this did not weaken the bracket. This is a great product. Firestone though of everything you might need including elbow fittings, brackets and zip ties. 209886

When I first purchased the kit I thought it was over priced. Once I finished the install by myself, in under two hours, in my driveway, with only a few simple tools, the price looked a little better. When I added in the very heavy-duty construction and quality construction the price started to look pretty darn good. Well, as I sit here in Florida after the nicest 750 mile pull I must say that the F2250 kit is probable the best money I have spent in a long time. If you pull you will understand what I mean about the problem you have when you hit a number of bumps in a row. This product almost completely solves the problem. In addition the over-all ride is much better. 119698

The product is very high quality, well built and designed. Installed easily in about an hour and a half. Watching the online video helped. Inflated them to 40 psig to start with trailer attached, still had a little bounce so I went to 50 psig. That completely cured the problem. I used a bicycle pump with a built in gauge it worked great to accurately set the pressure. Not much pumping because it is a low volume of air. It did make the ride much more firm. Set the air back to 5 psig when not towing feels like they are not even on the truck. Made the towing experience much more enjoyable. No sea sick passengers. 198397

Product was shipped promptly and arrived in three days. Had watched the Etrailer installation video and read through the instructions before the helper springs arrived. Installation was quick and simple and went well. Only thing I was puzzled with was which bracket was for the left side and which one was the right side that bolts on the lower bracket that goes over the Jounce stop. Once I assembled the bracket and held it in position you could easily see if you had the correct side, wrong side won't fit into place. Excellent product, performs as stated in description. Would recommend. 212085

Easy to install. It took longer to run the air lines than it did to install the bags. The way Firestone packages this kit needs some help as I had to paint the brackets as they were chipped and didn't want to worry about rust. Some of this is due to my OCD. I can see where they are going to work well as just a few LBS of pressure changes the ride height on my truck with no load. I have not towed with them yet but am sure they are going to be perfect for the application of towing my TT and a better ride. Not only that, but taking some of the strain off the stock springs. 81999

Product was in good shape when it arrived. Instructions were easy to follow. Put 2014 Toyota Tundra on a 2 post lift. Cut off my bumper pads on springs with a sawzall and mounted lower bracket. Tightened it with 3/8 dewalt impact. Next we set the bags in place and started the lower bolt. We then drilled the 2 holes in rear bumper and mounted air chucks. Then we lowered truck and started top of bag thru hole and the lowered to top bracket. Tightened bolts and nuts. Installed sit hoses. Inflated to 5psi. Very easy. 1.5 hours total. Easy to install. Ride stayed the same. 155412

Review from a similar Firestone Ride-Rite in Vehicle Suspension

Everytime I order from eTrailer the products arrive faster and the installation gets more enjoyable. I used the air bag system to correct trailer sway and vehicle sag on my '09 F150. Putting these brackets on the suspension was awsome with only three common hand tools and the results are wonderful. I needed the adjustability of air ride to compensate for light loads when empty and of course heavy trailer weight when pulling a 20ft enclosed v-nose. This system allows me to maintain level vehicle travel with just a portable air tank and a low pressure tire PSI gauge. 52552

Put on 2008 f250. With a B&W turnover ball. Had to remove one bolt on both side of B &W to mount top bracket then replace with new bolts in kit No big deal. Put both sides on and ran the air lines in less than 2 hours. Had a leak on driver side. It was where I didn't cut the air line straight. Recut air line and that fixed the problem. I would recommend this to anyone. 181344

I just received and installed my Air Springs. I AM IMPRESSED!!! Obviously, by the product as my 3/4 ton now rides like a 1/2 ton, but also by the service I received from Michelle at Etrailer.com. I phoned in my order and she was able to answer my installation questions and pointed out the videos on the product installation which were very detailed and made the actual install painless. I found the product at a slightly smaller price at another site and Etrailer honored their lowest price pledge. I would recommend Etrailer.com for your suspension needs! 190281

Was concerned if thls kit would fit a 2010 Silverado 2500 HD Quad cab with 6.5 ft. bed with a B&W fifth wheel turn over ball hitch. It took me 2.5 hours and every thing fit perfect. No problem with the instructions dead on, and the only holes I had to drill was in the rear bumper for the air fittings. Have had them on since November no air leaks or problems. This make my truck ride excellent with my toy hauler and other gooseneck trailer I have. Alot cheeper than a air pin box and does the same thing,no more chucking and bouncing. thanks 7291

I ordered the wrong parts. I needed a replacement bellow. I blew a tire and the interior tire destroyed the bellow for my Firestone Ride-Rite air helper spring. I am not sure if Firestone don't provide enough information or if etrailer.com failed to provide enough information for replacement bellows. I had to re-order from a different supplier. The other supplier had the exact information to get the correct replacement bellows. This research was expensive and time consuming, but I finally got the correct part. 162040

Awesome product! Air bags have worked wonders to easily help level my truck while pulling a 36' bumper pull camper with 1000LBS of tongue weight. I also have installed a weight distribution hitch from ETRAILER and the combo works amazing... I ordered a sway bar for my truck from another source as ETRAILER didn't have one and their service isn't near as good as ETRAILERS. They have an awesome turn around on the product as well as shipping times generally are only a couple of days... Will continue to buy from you! 88656

I ordered a set of Firestone air bags (springs) and Torklift camper tiedowns for my new Chevy 3500HD Duramax. I had both on an older truck that was just traded. I put the last set on myself, but this time hired a mechanic (ain't gettin' any younger!). Anyway, the shipment was both prompt and correct. Both items were correctly engineered for this 2015 model truck. Installation was no problem for the pro, and I'm very happy. The airbags are hard to beat for heavy loads, and Torklift makes super tiedowns. 155610

My 2010 GMC Sierra 1500 4X4 has a leveling kit on it. It looks great until I hook up to a trailer and the rear end lowers making it look like I'm driving uphill all the time. Because of this I ordered Firestones RideRite air bags. So far I really like them. They keep the truck nice and level even under a load. Time will tell if the air is gonna bleed off over time. I wish etrailer sold this kit with a compressor as well so you could adjust the bags at the push of a button. I may have to buy one and try it! 106863

My airbags showed up quickly and I installed them as soon as I got home. I spent about 3 hrs to install them, the instructions are alright, could be a little better. I have a gas F-250 and installed the air valves in behind the fuel door which makes them very easy to fill of deflate. I put 20lbs of air in them and they lifted the back end 1 3/4" with the truck empty. Going to be pulling the fver this weekend, looking forward to see how much air I need to put in them with a load and see how they perform. 194451

As usual the service is great. Received the Firestone Airbag kit about 2pm. on the day it was supposed to be here. The parts all but fell together. No problems putting this kit in the truck. It was a very easy installation, took about 2 hours. I like the idea of the air bags going between the frame and the axle. The last set I did on another truck the airbags went beside the frame, it just didn't seem to be as strong. I'll get to try them out next week when I pick up my new truck camper. Can't wait. 180894

2008 Chevy 1500. Using to assist with hauling travel trailer. Product shipped quickly and arrived on time. Poorly written instructions but easily installed once I was able to sort out the installation process. Very heavy duty material. Vehicle drove great after installation. Cant wait to put it to the test with a load. Note that the reference pictures on the website are of an older design. The mounting brackets have been redesigned and probably easier installation now. 141466

Very pleased with the product. An installation caveat: For the placement of the inflation valves (per the instruction example), be aware that the 2003 Tundra Ltd bumper has a plastic cowling that is part of the bumper but separated from the metal part by ~0.25". This plastic requires an ~1.25" opening to reach the valve (attached to the metal) with an air chuck. An alternative is to reassess the location of the inflation valves before drilling the 5/16" holes. 120214

Etrailer did a wonderful job. The installation was a breeze once I had the right bracket. Turns out that the bracket on the drivers side needed to be different (2012 Dodge Ram 3500 Laramie) and a call to Firestone got me that bracket. Installation about 1.5hrs with modest hand tools. 41289

This is my first set of Firestone air shocks - my last set were made by Air Lift, which I used for about 10 years and really liked. It took me about 2 hours to install these air shocks on my 2014 Chevy 1500 4x4 but I could see it taking less time for someone with more mechanical experience. I haven't tried towing with these shocks yet but I like the quality and fit. I may add an update once I tow something heavy with them inflated. 112435

My fault. I grossly looked at all the parts and separated them for each side. Then went ahead and put the truck on jack stands and removed the tires. In step one I needed a 5/8-18 jam nut, none were to be found, anywhere. Iand I only slit the plastic sack and layer it open on the bench. All other hardware accounted for, except the two jam nuts. Putting the tires back on now to go to the store to buy a couple. Not pleased! 99279

  • According to my Firestone representative, you'll need the # F2371 spacer kit, which you can see by clicking the provided link. This spacer is compatible with the Ride-Rite # F2350, which is the correct Ride-Rite application for your truck. I don't have an installation video for the spacers, but the spacers install between the mounting bracket and the underside of the air spring, as shown in the instructions I'll send to you. • Rear Suspension Enhancement for a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 Quad Cab
  • All of the install kits for the Draw-Tite Hide-A-Goose # 9464, have the brackets on the out side of the frame rails. The Firestone Kit, # F2286, installs on the bottom of the rail. However, it has a bracket that goes on the outside of the rail so it and the gooseneck would interfere with each other. Instead, you can use the SuperSprings Vehicle Suspension, # SSA8MTKT. These springs do not mount to the frame so they should not interfere with the gooseneck hitch.

  • Why Do Air Ride Helper Springs have to be Deflated if Lifting a 2008 Dodge Ram by the Frame
  • You are correct. If you have air helper springs on your 2008 Dodge Ram, it is recommended that the vehicle not be lifted by the frame. The reason is that because of the way the springs are attached to the truck, lifting the truck by the frame could over-extend them. This could cause damage to the springs. Deflating them would allow them to expand more than if they were inflated. I have included a link to the instructions below.

  • Proper Inflation of the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs
  • The air bags in the Firestone Ride-Rite systems can be inflated to a minimum of 5 psi and a maximum of 100 psi. This amount will vary depending on the weight of the load, type of load (in your case a trailer), condition of factory suspension and personal preference. For the best ride use only enough air pressure in the air helper springs to level the vehicle when viewed from the side. Over-inflating the bags beyond what is necessary will cause a harsh ride. I have attached a link...

  • Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Spring Spacer for Trucks with a 1-3/4 Inch Lift
  • I recommend going with the 2 inch spacers, # F2366, if you plan on using the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs. It is better to have the spacer take up more room between the bag and the frame or axle. Using a spacer that is smaller that the lift on the truck would reduce the effectiveness of the air bags. Keep in mind, these spacers will not fit Ride-Rite kits, # F2350 or # F2286. If you can tell me the year, make and model of your truck, I would be happy to make a specific recommendation...

This kit will work on your 2007 Dodge Ram 1500, 4X4 with 4 inch suspension lift, but if your Ram had a body lift, rather than a suspension lift, the spacers would then not be required.
