Video Transcript for UWS 48 inch Standard Chest Toolbox Review

Today we'll be taking a look at the UWS standard chess style toolbox. Now this is going to be a great accessory for your truck or trailer anytime where you're going to have some equipment, some gear that you want to keep out of the rain and keep out of the hands of would be thieves. The box construction is aluminum and our latches and the hardware is made of stainless steel. So even if we keep this out in our truck or on our trailer for a long period of time, we want them to worry about any rusting. It's going to keep all our stuff inside the box well protected. There are a lot of different configurations for your toolbox, a lot of different sizes out there.

This one that we're working with in particular is going to be 48 inches long by 20 inches tall and 24 inches deep.So this is going to work out well for our mid to full size trucks like our F 250 that we have here today. You can see that we've moved our box up to the bulkhead of our cab. This is going to be a typical placement in most of your trucks. Have it up here by the cab of our truck or we can get quick access to it on either side. Keeps it out of the way of the rest of our items in the back of our bed.

Now there's nothing really holding this down in place right now so it's not a bad idea to grab a ratcheting strap. Put maybe around this little indention at the front or if you want a more permanent mounting solution you can always drill through the box and into your bed. It doesn't come with any hardware for that. You're obviously putting holes in the box and your bed. You want to make sure that you do that with some common sense. To open up the lid on the toolbox.

We'll have our two paddle style handles. The lock is going to be on the left side so you can bring those up. Open up our lid. Something that I like about the boxes that we'll have these guests cylinders to lift the box lids. We don't have to struggle with it.

It's just going to pop right open for us every time. The latches have a rod running through them, so you only have to use one of those latches to lift it up or you can do both simultaneously. There's a foam gasket running around the perimeter of the box to give it a little bit of cushion. Helps keep out any dirt or debris and water. If you have trouble getting the lid to latch properly, you can adjust the striker pins to the appropriate height to make the lid close easily. The lid is filled with a structural foam that helps give it more strength and integrity. It comes in black as you can see here, and it's also available in bright aluminum, which is just going to give us that nice bright metallic finish. It is lockable, it comes with two keys. So we can turn that over and now our handle won't move so no one can get into our box. We'll have 13.3 cubic feet of space, so it's going to be a lot of space to hold any of our gear tools and other equipment. The piano style hinge runs the entire length of the box. We don't have to worry about it getting offset or wearing out anytime soon. If you decided to get a tonneau cover with your truck, one thing you'll probably want to know is whether or not you can still use your box, if it's going to fit underneath that. This is pretty close to the upper edge of our F 250 which is a pretty standard size truck. You can adjust the pins on that lid to maybe bring it down a little bit more, but right now it's sitting about flush are about a half inch higher. So that's something to keep in mind if you have a tunnel cover that sits a little bit high off the side rails of your bed, that'll probably work just fine. UWS also stands behind their toolbox by offering a limited lifetime warranty, so it should last us a good long time. Is there any issues we can call them up and get it figured out. But overall, I think this is going to be a really nice addition for your truck, your trailer, or even your garage to keep all your gear safe and organized. And that's going to do it for our look at the UWS 48 inch standard chest toolbox.

Box looks great and shipped on time. May want to package a little better to help minimize damage. Nothing wrong with mine but would be easy to damage in shipping.

by:

Have this fitted in the bed of my Jeep Scrambler. Jut the right width.

This tool box has worked fantastic for my needs. I mounted it to the front of the deck on my 24' trailer and after one year it still looks brand new. The lock functions as it should, and everything still stays nice and dry inside. I have eight large ratchet straps, my 10 ton bottle jack, trailer locks, wheel chocks, and extra blocks of wood with plenty of room to spare. Was a great addition to my trailer.

by:

I'm happy with it. I drilled drains in to it, during HEAVY storming it got about 3/8" of water in it. Also had to play with striker and lock adjustments for it to close and lock well.

by:

Works great! One year later and no pro blems.

by:

Appears to be well constructed.
All
dimensions are no accurate.
