Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.
Determining the Bolt Pattern
The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.
To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)
On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)
Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a look at this triangle ST235/80R16 Load Range G Heavy Duty Radial Trailer Tire with this 16-inch Dexstar black steel mod wheel with an eight on six and a half-inch bolt pattern. Now this tire and wheel assembly is going to be great for your stock trailers, utility trailers, and campers. This special trailer tire or ST tire has sturdy sidewalls so that it can handle heavy loads. This is created specifically for trailers and not intended for use on other vehicles.
This heavy-duty radial tire is gonna be great for highway use and it is constructed with all steel belts that will enhance the durability and extend the tread life of this tire. The computer-generated tread design and premium rubber compound materials are gonna give you superior traction in wet or dry conditions. Now as I stated at the beginning of our time together and as we have stamped here on our tire, this is an ST235/80R16. The section width is 9.25 inches and the outer diameter is 30 7/8 inches. This is a load range G, meaning it has a 14-ply rating.
The maximum load is 4,080 pounds at 110 PSI. And this has a speed rating of L, indicating the maximum speed of 75 miles per hour. Now this sturdy Dexstar wheel is a steel wheel and it does feature this modular design as you can see here. And the black powder coat finish over E-coat primer is gonna be rust-resistant. This wheel does use beveled stud holes, which are gonna help keep your wheel securely in place on your trailer hub.
That's gonna eliminate the need for the constant re-tightening of the lug nuts. And the dimensions of our rim, taking a look at the diameter first, measuring bead seat to bead seat, it's 16 inches in diameter and the width of that wheel is six inches. And this has a bolt pattern of eight on six and a half inches. And in case you don't know, the first number of that bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes, and then the second number is the diameter in inches of the circle on which the bolt holes sit. So to determine the bolt circle diameter on wheels with an even number of bolt holes as we have here, you're simply going to measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the bolt hole directly across from it.
The wheel capacity is 4,400 pounds. The wheel stud size is a half an inch by 20 or 9/16 of an inch by 18. The center cap is sold separately, but if you decide to pick one up, you just wanna make sure that it fits the pilot diameter of 4.9 inches. Now, this tire and wheel assembly does meet the Department of Transportation specifications, and this tire does have a one-year worry-free guarantee. So if within the first 12 months this tire is damaged in any way, it will be replaced by Triangle at no charge to you. Well, that's gonna wrap up our look today. I do hope that our brief time together was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.
