Westlake Radials

This radial ply tire from Westlake is constructed with double steel belts and double polyester cords for increased durability. A protective layer of nylon is wrapped around the steel belts to help prevent tread separation.

Westlake Standard Tread Close-Up

The standard tread on this tire has solid, continuous ribs, and there are very few sipes (or thin grooves) cut into the rubber. This tire is designed for use on trailers, so it doesn't require the level of traction that would be needed on a vehicle that is braking or steering.

Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

My 4 Westlake tires were delivered on time and in perfect condition. The DOT codes on three tires were the exact week and year of manufacture and one was only manufactured three weeks earlier. These are great results as age is more of a facture than tread wear in the RV world. I will be using the new tires on my heavy 16k lb. 5th wheel and moving one of my best old tires to be the Spare. Really impressed with the 4k+ load rating and 14 bias ply tread of tire and the "G" rating as well. Big upgrades from my last tires. etrailer did an excellent in shipping and communication in tracking of the order.

Review from a similar WL Radial in Trailer Tires and Wheels

Chrissy from etrailer did a fantastic job getting taking my order and getting it shipped promptly. I had a tire blow out on my fifth wheel, and no local place could order the correct size. So kudos to etrailer and Chrissy for getting me back on the road !!!!

Comments
etrailer is fantastic. Have had two more thread separations on Westlakes. Tire shop said the steel belts separated due to manufacture process. I’m done with Westlakes running Sailuns now.

Ask the Experts about this Westlake Trailer Tires and Wheels

  • Difference Between Westlake and Goodyear Tire Tread, Which Is Better?
We have not had any customers directly tell us that the Westlake tires have failed on them. However, I have read on some forums that the threads split after a shorter amount of time compared to other options for tires. I recommend to replace them with Goodyear tires which is the best trailer tire out there. It looks like your tire size may be ST235/80R16. I recommend to use the Goodyear Endurance ST235/80R16 Radial Trailer Tire part # 724858519 which is a load range E tire that has a...

  • Should Westlake ST235/80/R16 Trailer Tires be Inflated to Their Max PSI on Sidewall
With trailer tires you want to inflate them to the max PSI listed on the sidewall when they are cold and any pressure fluctuations are fine as long as you aren't overloading the tire and are below the speed rating. Yours going up to 120 psi when warmed up is fine. With trailer tires a good max temperature setting is 156 degrees.

  • Best Tire Size For 2019 Keystone Montana High Country 331RL
Yes, you can safely use a tire with a 6-1/2" bead width with a wheel with a 6" rim width. Any given wheel width can have several valid tire widths that can operate on it, with the narrowest of those choices being best. From my research the factory specs for your High Country call for ST235/80R/16F tires. Tires of that sizing can fit rim widths of 6", 6-1/2", 7", and 7-1/2". While all four sizes can safely operate with that tire, the 6" or 6-1/2”" are best. Personally, I would go with...

  • Can Trailer Tires be Changed From 7.5-16 to 235/80-16 Radial Tires
A 7.5-16 tire measures 31.8 inches in diameter and 8.4 inches side, so you may be able to switch to a 235/80-16 radial trailer tire, but it depends on how much room you have currently between the inside of your tire and your trailer frame. The rule is you need at least 1 inch of clearance, and a 235/80-16 tire measures 9.3 inches wide and 30.8 inches in diameter, so it is nearly a full inch wider. So if you currently have at least 2 inches of clearance you can use a 235/80-16 tire, otherwise...

  • Recommended Tire Pressure for Westlake ST235/80R16 Load Range G part # WE76FR
The recommended/max pressure for the Westlake ST235/80R16 Load Range G part # WE76FR is 110 psi. With trailer tires like this it is important to always run the max psi to ensure you don't reduce your weight capacity and/or create excessive heat build up. So for this tire you'd inflate it to 110 psi when cold and any normal pressure fluctuations would be totally fine as long as you weren't exceeding the weight capacity of the tire as well as the speed rating of 75 mph.

  • Recommended Tire Upgrade To Replace ST225/75/15 Tires On Tandem Axle Toy Hauler
I may have another option for you, but 225/75/15 trailer tires usually only have a load rating up to E. Another thing to keep in mind is the load rating is as high as the weakest components. If your tires have a 3000lb load rating but your wheels are only rated to 2500lbs you will be limited to 2500lbs. To be able to find heavier duty tires much easier I recommend stepping up to a 16" wheel and using a tire like the Westlake ST235/80R16 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range G # WE76FR. This...

  • Safe Max Tire Pressure for Trailer Tires with 110 Max PSI Rating
The generally accepted rule for psi increases with temperature is that for every 10 degree change there is a 2% change in psi. For tire pressures like yours like # WE76FR that require 110 psi that ends up being 2 psi for every 10 degrees of temperature change. So typically tires get up to 120 degrees when in use on the highway. So assuming you are going from about 70 degrees to 120 degrees that means a temp change of 50 degrees so you'd probably see an increase to about 120 psi. So...

  • 235/80-16 Tire Recommendation for 13K 2814GS Attitude Toy Hauler
In a nutshell, you'll want the combined capacity of your tires to meet or exceed the 13000 lb GVWR of your toy hauler. A load range E tire in 235/80-16 will typically have a 3420 lb capacity per tire when fully inflated. For 4 tires, that would add up to 13680 lbs, which is greater than your GVWR. You could certainly go with a load range G tire, but since most folks don't load up their RV's all the way up to the GVWR, a load range E tire should work perfectly for you. We offer the...

You would be correct in going with whatever the tire manufacturer lists on the sidewall as being the recommended tire pressure. If you're referring to our photo of the # LHWL401, I was unable to make out the pressure rating shown in the photo. This tire does have a maximum pressure of 80 psi. A Load Range G tire like # WE76FR would have a max pressure of 110 psi. The load range E tire has plenty of capacity to handle the GVWR of your 5th wheel. Although it's not necessary, there's...
