Determining the Bolt Pattern
The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.
To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)
On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)
Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at the Americana 12 inch by 6 inch gunmetal gray machined AM02 series aluminum trailer wheel with the 5 on 4-1/2 half inch bolt pattern. Now, this is an aluminum wheel. It is durable, lightweight, and rust-proof. It is the Americana AM02 series, which you can see is a split five-spoke design, has a gunmetal gray finish with the machine finish on the face of the spokes and even on the lip. Now, the front and even the back of the wheel are clear coated to protect against scuffs and scratches.
Now, they do use steel inserts. That's one of the best features I like on this wheel is the steel inserts that are pressed into the lug nut wells. They're designed to help keep your wheel securely in place on the trailer hub. Basically, when you put this on your hub, your studs will come through here. You'll put your lug nets in and torque them down, and those inserts prevent the holes from elongating or wearing down over time, so it eliminates the need for constant re-tightening of your lug nuts.
This is a high-quality wheel. It does meet the DOT Department of Transportation specifications. A few dimensions on this, the diameter we're gonna measure, which is always measured inside to inside, and then we're also gonna measure the width. So if we first do the diameter inside to inside, there's your 12 inch measurement. The width, same way, we're gonna measure inside to inside or bead seat to bead seat, there's your four inch width.
Now, this wheel does have a bolt pattern of 5 on 4-1/2 inches. And if you wanna measure that on a wheel that's an odd number of lugs, in this case five, what you need to do is pick any hole, let's say this one, and then you're gonna have to measure across to either one of these holes. But the trick is you measure from the center of the starting hole to the furthest edge of the hole that you measure to. So on this one, it'll measure 4-1/2 inches. So this is a 5-lug 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern.
Does use a wheel lug size of 1/2 inch by 20. Now the pilot hole, which is this large hole here in the center, the diameter on that opening is 3.19 inches. And the last thing on this, the load rating or weight capacity on this wheel is 1,520 pounds. But that should do it for a look at the Americana 12 inch by 4 inch gunmetal gray machined AM02 series aluminum trailer wheel.
Thank you so much for a great product and super fast shipping.
