Determining the Bolt Pattern
The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.
To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)
On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)
Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we'll take a look at this Americana 13 inch by four and a half inch wide AM03 Series Gunmetal Gray Machined Aluminum Trailer Wheel with the five on four and a half inch bolt pattern. Now this is an aluminum wheel. It's very durable, lightweight and rustproof. As we mentioned, this is an AM03 Series wheel, which is a five open spoke design in a gunmetal grey finish. And if you look around the openings, the five spoke, open spoke here, you'll see they have a machined silver face all around the spoke.
Provides a nice, bold, sleek look. A gunmetal grey finish on the wheel is a glossy finish. Does also have a clear coating on both the front (wheel scrapes) and even on the back of the wheel to protect the finish. (wheel scrapes) A few dimensions on this wheel. We mentioned the diameter, which is 13 inches, is always measured inside to inside.
Just to show what we're talking about, if I put a tape measure, you'll be able to see there's your 13 inch diameter. (measuring tape clicks) The width is also measured inside to inside, or bead seat to bead seat. And you can see there's your four and a half inch measurement for that. (measuring tape clucks) Now the bolt pattern on this wheel is a five on four and a half inch bolt pattern. And if you wanna measure that on a bolt pattern that's an odd number of lugs, like in this case, five, it's pretty easy.
It's not like the even lugs where they're right across from each other. But all you have to do on an odd number of lugs is pick any hole, let's say this lug hole right here. And then when you measure, it's gonna be measured to either this hole or this hole. But the trick is when you measure, it's from the center of the starting hole to the furthest edge of whichever hole you measure to. So if you measure from the center here to the starting edge, or the furthest edge, it's gonna be four and a half inches.
So the bolt pattern on this is five lug, four and a half inch bolt pattern. (wheel scrapes) The wheel lug size this uses is a half inch by 20. Weight capacity on this wheel is 1,740 pounds. And one nice feature I like about this wheel is right where the lugs go, in the lug nut wells here, you might notice they use steel inserts in those lug nut wells and they help to keep the wheel securely in place on the trailer hub. Helps prevent the holes from elongating or wearing down and it helps eliminate the need for constant re tightening of your lug nuts. If you notice the wheels cannot, does not come with a center cap. We do sell those separately if you prefer to have one. The, when you buy your center cap, you do wanna make sure it has the same diameter as this pilot hole in the wheel 'cause that's where your center cap will install. Diameter on this one is 3.19 inches. This wheel does meet the DOT, Department of Transportation, specifications and the SAE J2530 standards. But that should do it for the review of this Americana 13 inch by four and a half inch wide (wheel scrapes) AM03 Series Gunmetal Grey Machined Aluminum Trailer Wheel.
