Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

2007 BMW x3 Hidden Hitch
Pros: Easy
to install, Great fit overall, Nice to be able to keep the original bumper in addition to the hitch. Excellent overall Aesthetics.

Cons: Could not trim the Plastic Hitch Bumper cover as easily as I would have liked for when the hitch is not in use. The hitch has a rather large wide flat piece of metal attached on the top of the hitch insert that sticks out which made it difficult to trim and impossible to to complete without cutting it into two pieces. (the two pieces are still very secure and not going anywhere). Overall it was not really a big deal for the appearance or strength of the cover like I was worried about but my only complaint. (All the other hitch makers including the genuine BMW hitch appear to have similar problems when it comes to trimming the the hitch cover so I dont think buying a different hitch would have mattered. Ultimately I think it was just a problem with the car engineering.

Great Dealorder and delivery was exellent! at a good price

The hitch I ordered more than met my expectation, the instruction were detained, enabling worry free installation

by:

Good to know ahead of time...I haven't bought the hitch yet but the prices are outstanding. However, what I liked best is that they have the installation instructions for my specific vehicle online for me to download ahead of time.

I like to be prepared when I install something of this nature. So having the full instructions to read first made it an easy decision to use etrailer.com as the place where I will buy this hitch.

2004 BMW X3

I have a 2004 BMW X3 3.0i. I wanted the hitch to haul bikes, it's not for towing. I bought the Draw-Tite hitch #75371 partially because it had no electrical plug bracket, why buy that if it won't be used. Also I liked how the frame of the hitch angled downward to the 2x2 receiver instead of being straight across which leads to offset leverage on the mounting bolts when you're stopping and starting. First, etrailer.com - great experience overall, freaky fast (free) shipping (I ordered the hitch on Sunday PM and it arrived Weds PM) and I could review the installation instructions online before buying! Second, Draw-Tite - excellent product, fit perfectly and is completely hidden except 2x2 receiver. Very little trimming on the bumper fascia for the 2004-5 X3's. The only thing I noted was that the little access door where the tow hook screws in now bulges out a little because the bumper substrate has moved back 1/4" due to the hitch being sandwiched between the bumper substrate and the mounting flanges on the car while the fascia keeps its original position. Very happy overall with buying experience and the Draw-Tite product.

2007 BMW X3

I selected the Curt and happy I did as it fits behind the existing steel bumper inside the plastic bumper trim and uses the same existing eight bolts. Good and solid. The part that takes some patience and lots of time is trimming the plastic around the hitch to get the perfect fit and look. On the X3 I had to change the hitch pin to a more compact and inexpensive unit so that it would fit without cutting out a larger hole in the bumper. You are not trimming the bumper but rather a removeable panel that fits into the plastic bumper trim. There is a trick to getting the u-bolt into the holes one is asked the drill into the steel bumper. Thread some thin gauge wire around the threads to help fish the u-bolt. See the two photos. The instructions do not mention this and it is nearly impossible otherwise.

2004 BMW X3

2004 BMW X3 Relatively easy installation. The instructions were easy to follow. You are essentially taking the bumper wrap around off, unbolting the hidden bumper, drilling 2 holes and then reinstalling . The hitch bolts behind the original bumper. A small cut needs to be made to the inside plastic facia to make room for the hitch. Most time is used taking off and putting on the bumper wrap - it's not hard but just requires patience. The team at Etrailer is simply awesome. Very responsive - real people answer your questions and respond quickly. If you need a hitch and are a little handy I recommend this one from etrailer. I tested it today and very happy with it.

Install went better than expected. Hitch looks great on my X3. I was most impressed with the buying experience from etrailer.com the hitch came in less than a week. They followed up on the day it was delivered too! So glad I purchased from them.

Excellent product at the best price. I would suggest update of installation instructions which were outdated for my newer BMW. Crucial highlights on my instruction sheet were faded out, probably due to use of environmentally friendly ink, which fades with time. Installation took longer than expected due to necessary removal of the entire rear valance and bumper of the vehicle, plus additional drilling of two holes through the hard tempered steel bumper. If you have a BMW X model, you may want to consider hiring a garage to intall. etrailer was very supportive and responsive through the process. Grade A+ !
[Two Thumbs Up]

  • Does the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Class III # 75371 for 2008 BMW X3 Require Drilling for Installation
The Draw-Tite Class III Max Frame Receiver Hitch # 75371 does in fact require drilling during the installation process. You will need to drill two holes into the bumper in order to support the hitch at the middle bracket. I have provided a link to the installation instructions for this to give you a clearer idea of what this involves. The drilling steps are on page 2. The other trailer hitch available for your 2008 BMW X3 is the Curt Class III # 13573 which does not require drilling....

  • Wiring Harness Recommendation for 2007 BMW X3
There isn't a plug and play wiring harness, but we do have an available option. Tekonsha offers the ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness w/ 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector and Installation Kit # 119250KIT, for your 2007 BMW X3. This kit includes a circuit tester and a no-splice, quick and easy, install. • Transporting Dirt Bike with Class III Trailer Hitch on 2006 BMW X3
The Draw-Tite Class III Max Frame Receiver Hitch # 75371 referenced in your question, which is confirmed to fit your 2006 BMW X3, features a tongue weight capacity of 350 pounds. As long as you remain under this capacity with the combined weight of your carrier and dirt bike (which it sounds like you will), you will not have an issue transporting your bike. If you do not yet have a carrier, I recommend looking at the Ultra-Fab Dirt Bike Carrier # UF48-979033. This is a really nice carrier...

  • Questions About Towing a Skeeter SX 170 Bass Boat with a 2005 BMW X3 and Wiring
I agree, Draw-Tite is one of the most popular hitches on the market today. For your 2005 BMW X3 the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch, item # 75371, would be a great choice for towing a Skeeter SX170 bass boat. To complete your towing package you will need wiring, a ball mount with pin and clip, and a properly sized hitch ball. I have provided links to the items recommended for your vehicle and some instructions that will help. For mounting the 4-Way connector at the rear of the vehicle...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch And Wiring For 2010 BMW X3
The trailer hitch I recommend for your 2010 X3 is the Draw-Tite Max-Frame, part # 75371. This is a Class lll hitch and it has a 2 inch receiver opening. • Recommendation For Bike Rack Options To Carry 3 Bikes on 2010 BMW X3
I do have a solution for your to carry 3 bikes on your 2010 BMW X3 without installing a trailer hitch. What you will need to do is install a roof rack on your X3 and use 3 roof mounted bike racks. The roof racks we have available for the 2010 X3 are only compatible with the X3 models that feature the raised side rails. The Thule Roof Rack, parts # TH712400 and # TH710401, would be a roof rack I recommend for your 2010 BMW X3, which feature 53 inch crossbars. For a roof mounted bike rack,...

  • Recommendation For Hitch Bike Rack on 2008 BMW X3
To recommend a hitch bike rack I would need to know how many bikes and the weight and types of bikes you want to transport. A bike rack you might want to start with would be the Thule Apex 2 Bike Carrier, part # TH9024XT. This is one of the newest models from Thule and can carry 2 bikes and has a maximum weight capacity of 70 lbs. It will install into either a 1-1/4 inch hitch and a 2 inch hitch. The Expert answer you are referring to is for a 2013 BMW X3. The Hollywood Racks Over-the-Top 2 Bike Rack, part # HRF2 will fit an X3 for the years 2013 and 2014. It is not a fit per the manufacturer for a 2005 through 2011. Unfortunately we do not have a trunk-mount bike carrier that will fit the 2006 X3 except for the SeaSucker carriers. I've linked the selection confirmed to fit for you. I recommend installing a trailer hitch and then a hitch-mounted bike carrier for your vehicle....
