Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Delivered quickly - good instructions - fiit well - went on with no problems - altogether a good shopping/installation experience.

A pic of the hitch installed on a 2012 Camry.

by:
2012 Toyota Camry

etrailer delivered everything quickly and the instructions were very good. Installed this on my 2012 Camry to carry a bike rack only, so this hitch was perfect since it doesn't include a ball mount or ball. Figuring out how to drill the one inch holes in each frame rail was the hardest part - there are not a lot of metal bits that big available - my solution was to use a Harbor Freight #96275 step drill. All in all a great experience with etrailer.

Toyota Camry

I think the hitch is great. Unfortunately it was installed on a Toyota Camry and those cars sit pretty low as it is and with the added weight of a motorcycle even lower. Travel was slow but it did the trick, especially for a vehicle that was never designed to do this sort of thing. If someone had to haul a bike like this all the time it would definitely help if they could beef up the rear suspension on the Camry.

Exactly as I had hoped. Had a Toyota Camry at the time and no other way to haul my grandsons dirt bike to and from the track. I appreciate that etrailer carried a small hitch that could be fashioned for use on a smaller vehicle.

2017 Toyota Camry

I got a new 2017 Camry and an avid cyclist. Before getting the hitch, I would have to take apart my wheels just to fit it in the trunk. This got old and annoying really quick. I found the Draw-tite trailer receiver hitch on etrailer.com. I made sure it would fit and got it. I had my local mechanic shop install it watching the video vs the manual, because that was confusing. It fit perfectly flushed and clean. I put a hitch mounted bike rack and now my life is that much happier!

I love how convenient it is for hauling my bikes. It definitely beats having a roof rack.

by:

Very glad I ordered this hitch. Installation was a little complicated due to my 2018 Avalon Limited's exhaust setup and little rust getting in the way. The hitch itself has been phenomenal in every way. What I love the most is that it's SUPER flush with the lower bumper. I hate other hitches that extend too low past the bumper! It's strong, and never once did I question its integrity. I have 2 mountain bikes that I carry on it, and it's been fantastic. I will definitely purchase another one for my other cars.

2014 Toyota Camry

Great hitch and my 2014 Camry SE did not require any trimming. I installed this myself with ease. I used a jack and a piece of 2x4 and the hitch balanced perfectly on the wood and I was able to maneuver it into position without a problem. Shipping was great. One trick, leave the fish wire on until after you get the hitch up to the car to ensure the bolt doesn’t go up into the frame rail. Everything took less than 2 hours and was very simple.

2014 Toyota Camry

I am a 52 year old female 5 feet tall and 120 lbs and I installed this product on my 2014 Camry SE V6 with dual exhaust and I did it alone with the help of a 1/2 ton jack and some ramps. I used the jack to hold the exhaust and then to raise it back up to refasten it. This was so easy to do and I couldn’t be happier. I also installed the wiring to lights and ran it through the inside of vehicle and then through the firewall. Great product.

by:
2012 Toyota Camry

I bought a trailer hitch and wiring harness for a 2104 Camry. The delivery was fast and efficient. The hitch and wiring was as advertised and installed as the etrailer videos portrayed. The bottom trim panel did not need as much adjustment or cutting as expected. Only had to cut out a piece 2 inch wide by 12 inch long and the panel fit nicely.
Was easy to install. Took approximately 4 hours total due to not having a lift
to raise the car to a better working height.
I have bought previously from etrailer and always a pleasant experience.

I just got my hitch installed on my 2014 Camry and it fits & looks perfect.

I also bought the Yakima Bike Rack and it fits the hitch perfectly.

Erika was very helpful and my items arrived in 3 days...

Hitch was well designed.
I appreciared
the installatiob videos. Thanks!
I used a floor jack to raise the hitch (balanced) into place, after drilling appropriate holes.
I used Camry jack to raise the car.
Wiring system works fine after installation.

by:

Installation process was just as described! Buy a step bit; it makes drilling the holes for the carriage bolts easy. Pictures show lowered exhaust by 1/2" and use with Kuat Beta

by:
2015 Toyota Camry

Overall this was a easy process. Great price and quick shipping. Videos on etrailer were very helpful. My only complaint is the stickers on the hitch. The weight label was poorly applied and really sticks out.

by:
2016 Toyota Camry

Very fast shipping thanks. The video helped out a lot for the install. Only problem was the box was damaged and the hitch was sticking through the box. The hitch was missing a little paint. Hope it doesn't rust. Hopefully etralier can secure the hitch in the packaging a little better in the future.

by:

So I installed this by myself except needed a pair of hands when lifting to screw the bolts. I used the your video and written instructions to do install. Instructions said it would take 1 hr. I took approx 3 hrs. Jack up car, prep, tools, and clean up metal shavings. Once installed it’s solid.

Excellent product easy installation fast delivery nice customer service , I couldn’t be happier!! I will order one for my 2016 Savanna 2500 very soon

by:

Installation was easy. Lucky for me on my 2012 Camry SE no trimming of any panel was necessary as the stock one that came on my camry only covered the spare tire compartment. I am the original owner so I can confirm this is the way it came.

by:
Toyota Camry

We slapped this on our toyota camry and been hauling moves ever since.

by:

Great service placing the order, excellent shipping, and the hitch was easy to install!

by:

Product is substantial and quite heavy for a vehicle that has a 1000lb max towing capacity. Instructions were a bit confusing with regard to using bolts that replaced 4 existing ones. Why not reuse the original?

by:
2015 Toyota Camry

Good delivery time ,installed it today after watching the handy video, fortunately I had the necessary tools so it went pretty well , bottom line is I’m satisfied

by:

2017 Toyota Prius

Fast delivery and excellent customer service...Received an email upon delivery as follow up for assistance. Installation video very helpful. This was a one person self-install on a 2017 Camry, did not find the enclosed installation instructions very helpful. No lift for my install, done at ground level so managing hitch positioning a bit tricky using jacks.
So, suggestion for 1 man installation- *Produce a video showing lift jack placement and hacks to lift/secure hitch ( i used 2 hydraulic jacks) in position for drilling (if needed) and screwing into existing transport bracket threaded holes. *Make it very clear passenger side exhaust bracket holes used for hitch unlike drivers side which uses the transport bracket holes. It can be tricky aligning the hitch with the holes.

I have a Prius as well and the hitch (for bikes) much simpler install w/no drilling

Hitch works as expected. Trailer wiring much more challenging due to no lift attempting to route power wire from battery to rear 2 wire converter.

by:
2012 Toyota Camry

Got this yesterday and put it on today myself with the help of the tutorial video specific for my vehicle. It is exactly what I need and for a fraction of the $300 the trailer rental place quoted me. Looks great too, thanks!

by:

Holding up well after 1 year. Install was a breeze with simple hand tools, a drill, and a stepped drill bit I picked up Install video showed the guy cutting a giant hole in the plastic cover under the rear bumper. I cut mine to be flush against the hitch receiver for a cleaner looking install.

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch to use Thule Bike Rack on 2017 Toyota Camry
The hitches available for your 2017 Toyota Camry, the Curt # C12107 and Draw-Tite # 36540 are extremely similar and it would be difficult to say that one would be "better" than the other for your Thule Roadway # TH912XTR. The most noticeable difference is that the Curt hitch will require you to use stabilizing straps # 18050 when using your bike rack in order to maintain the warranty. The Draw-Tite # 36540 does not have the same requirement so I recommend going with that option over the...

Hey Rick, the Draw Tite hitch part # 36540 that you referenced does not require any frame drilling to install, comes with all needed install hardware, would take about an hour to install, and does require heat shield and underbody panel trimming. I should mention that the underbody panel is not the rear bumper panel. If you let me know what you plan to use the hitch for I can see what other items you might also want!

For your 2015 Toyota Camry we offer Class II hitches like the part # 36540 which can carry a bike rack designed to fit a 1-1/4 inch hitch. The capacities are for the hitches that their manufacturers determined by extensive testing. The capacities for a vehicle can sometimes be different and you should go by the lower of the two ratings as the overall capacity. The # 36540 is confirmed to fit all models of the 2015 Toyota...

  • Is there a 2 inch Hitch for a 2012 Toyota Camry?
Hey Jim! I checked with all of our vendors and I am sorry but the only hitches available for the 2012 Toyota Camry are class II ones with 1-1/4" receivers like the Curt item # C12107. This hitch has a 300 lbs tongue weight capacity but you'll need to use an adapter like the item # HT5R for a wheel chair carrier. The issue with any adapter is it cuts your hitches capacity by 50% so you're only left with 150 lbs to spread out amongst the chair and carrier.

Curt hitches like the Class II designed for the Toyota Camry, part # C12107 require the stability strap, part # 18050 as part of the warranty. Beyond that, the stability strap is one of the easiest ways to improve the performance of any non-trailer load by helping it become far more stable. Trailer hitches have to be able to flex to avoid damage. The metals used in fabrication of a hitch like Draw-Tite # 36540 and Curt # C12107 are selected to allow for this. The mounting brackets on a hitch are not of the same metal formulation as the cross tube. A totally rigid hitch would be more likely to suffer damage. Some flex is okay.
