Question:
2012 Toyota Camry Application - Why is a strap needed on a Curt and not on a Draw-Tite hitch? What is ground clearance for Curt vs Draw-Tite.

Curt hitches like the Class II designed for the Toyota Camry, part # C12107 require the stability strap, part # 18050 as part of the warranty. Beyond that, the stability strap is one of the easiest ways to improve the performance of any non-trailer load by helping it become far more stable. I've included a video of our team installing a strap behind a 2014 Toyota Prius on a bike rack and a cargo carrier to better illustrate how it works.
Draw-Tite does not have this requirement, though I still recommend it because of how dramatic the performance difference is.
For the Curt, your ground clearance on a 2012 Toyota Camry is about 11 inches to the top of the inside of the receiver tube.
For the Draw Tite, part # 36540, your ground clearance on a 2014 Toyota Camry is 11-1/4 inches. The 2012 and 2014 Toyota Camry are the same generation and frame, so you will have a similar clearance, give or take a 1/4 inch.
