Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2009 Chevrolet Impala - Draw-Tite

Today on our 2009 Chevy Impala we'll be installing the Draw-Tite hitch, part number 36407. Here's what the hitch looks like installed on our vehicle. Now we'll go ahead and give you a couple measurements in helping you choose some accessories for your hitch, such as a ball mount, a bicycle rack, or a cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pinhole to the outermost edge of the bumper is approximately 7". From the top of the opening in the receiver to the ground is approximately 13-1/2". Now let's go ahead and put our hitch on. To begin with we will need to lower the exhaust out of the way so we can access the mounting locations on the passenger side of the vehicle.

Before we remove any of the exhaust hangers we're going to want to put a safety strap to go ahead and support the exhaust once the exhaust hangers have been removed. Now that our safety strap is in place we'll go ahead and use a little bit of spray lubricant to help the exhaust hangers come off a little bit easier. There are two holding the muffler at the back and one a little bit farther up on the exhaust pipe. With these three removed we can go ahead and loosen a little bit of the slack on the safety strap and lower the exhaust down. Now let's go ahead and point out the hardware that we'll be using to mount our hitch to our vehicle. For both locations on both the passenger and the driver side we will use the 1/2" by 1-1/4" carriage bolt, the spacer block, a 1/2" conical tooth washer, making sure that the teeth are facing the hitch when we install it, followed by a 1/2" hex nut.

For the two center locations on the crossmember of the frame we'll be using a 1/2" bolt by a 1-3/4" long with a spacer block, and again a conical tooth washer and a 1/2" hex nut. We'll go ahead and begin by fish-wiring in the carriage bolts with the spacer blocks in their appropriate locations. No it's a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you hold the hitch up while you put the conical tooth washers and nuts on. Once we have all the hardware installed, go ahead and tighten it down and torque it to the manufacturer's specification. Now that we have all the hardware torqued to the manufacturer's specification, now we're ready to go ahead and put the three exhaust hangers back in place that we removed earlier. With the exhaust back up we can go ahead and remove our safety strap.

With that, that will complete the installation of our Draw-Tite hitch, part number 36407, on our 2009 Chevrolet Impala. .

2003 Chevrolet Impala

Added this hitch to my 2003 impala to pull a small utility trailer. I chose this hitch over others because the square tube passes through and is welded to the side plates instead of just mitering the square tube and welding, which was the case on at least one other hitch etrailer carried. The hitch came with all the parts I needed including 4 wire bolt leaders. It did not have lock washers, though, so I ended up providing my own for the rear attachments, and nylock locknuts for the side bolts. The hitch went on easily after lowering the exhaust, but when I went to rehang the exhaust I found that the muffler pushes against the bolts on the right side of the hitch. The exhaust is now louder in the cabin. I'll have to find a way to bend the exhaust hangers some to remedy that problem. 16190

this products tracking was great . the hitch was clean and all bolts and washers were securely baged to the tow hitch I fitted it without reading the instructions and the bolts spring wire system for positioning attaching bolt /washer plate drill free installation was fun and not time consuming the hitch was so accurately manufactererd that I was able to lift the hitch up and all vehical gravity bolts/ washer plates positioned in the hitch within 5 seconds for torqueing I received a perfect older used ball and receiver for 5 dollars produced by the same company the reinforcing and metal thickness is exactly where don't worry about it is produced for winning thankyou 407926

Draw_Tite hitch was a veritable snap to install. I did not refer to the written instructions much as I had watched the eTrailer.com website installation videos before I had even placed my order. The videos are just fantastic for learning the step-by-step installation process. I only had to refer to the written instructions for the actual torque requirements for the bolts and nuts. It would have been helpful to have a second person to lend a hand with the lifting into place and holding the hitch while the nuts were applied, but I was able to do the whole process by myself with the car up on ramps while laying on a creeper on the garage floor. If I had to find one complaint, it would only be that the hitch hardware does come with four (4) of the fish wire bolt leaders. I did not see this listed in the contents so I went ahead and ordered three extras I didn't really even need. Even so, the whole kit and process was pretty painless and a great price and value. 36852

The draw-tite hitch was not difficult to install by myself except , you should have included 6 pull wires because there is 6 bolts and the wires do not like to be reused. Only 4 wires were included and it was quite difficult to force the wires to be reused. The cost for the extra wires would be minor compared to the head aches for myself and I'm sure many others. So I'm dropping 2 stars , otherwise would have been 5. 552727

Very happy with our trailer hitch. It has served us well over the past year and everything from ordering to installing was a simple process. We needed the hitch for my fathers wheel chair. It made life simpler for my parents if they didn’t have to put the wheel chair in the car, If I need another hitch in the future, I will order from here again. 699481

We have a couple of kids getting into biking and we use this hitch for a bike rack. We use it to go up the road a couple of miles and to drive hours to vacation and bike in Vermont and Acadia National Park in Maine. At the same time, my wife is uncomfortable driving the car to work with the bike rack installed. No problem - it's easy to take the rack off and put it back on. We have plans to try other devices with this product - like maybe a trailer for a canoe or row boat. I'm very happy we got this hitch - it has allowed us to really do more with our kids without any hassle. That's gold. 680620

The installation for this hitch was super easy! It literally took me just over a half hour from start to finish. .. honestly it took longer to find my wrenches. After Dropping the exhaust down from the rubber hangers, I was surprised how easy the fish wires were to use. All of the holes lined up, and the bolts dropped into place. One of the simplest things I've done to my car ever! Almost ranks with putting gas in. LOL 657753

  • 1-1/4-Inch Class II Hitch Bike Rack for Heavy Schwinn Bike
The hitches made for your 2007 Chevrolet Impala are the 1-1/4-inch Class II type, Draw-Tite # 36407 and Curt # C12252. Both offer the same weight capacity of 300-lbs tongue weight and both are no-drill bolt-on installations using included hardware. The Curt hitch is made here in the USA. You will need to use a Class II-rated hitch bike rack; all such carriers appear on the linked page. Most bike racks, like the Swagman XTC # S64670, top out at a 35-lbs bike weight rating but we do have...

I have the info you are looking for, but the Hidden Hitch and the Draw Tite hitches are basically the same thing as they are both made by the same company. Curt is different as it is a completely different company. The Curt is going to have the edge on which is the most concealed as it is the most recessed under the bumper. The Draw Tite # 36407 is going to sit just as high as the Curt # C12252 but it would stick out more horizontally. I attached pictures of both installed on a vehicle...

Curt is it's own company so the part # C12252 would be similar but made by a different company. I found a copy of the owners manual for a 2008 Chevrolet Impala and Chevy states that an Impala can tow a trailer, but the gross trailer weight must not exceed 1,000 lbs.
