Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

etrailer.com Technical Support

good product good service

by:

Hitch exactly as expected. Installation easy. Shipped and received in short time. Faster than expected.

by:

Great Price - Easy Install30 minute install from start to finish. Enlarge the holes in the frame, then bolt into place.

by:
2000 Honda CR-V

The hitch drawbar was exactly as advertised and fit the vehicle perfectly. I think the manufacturer is a little overly optimistic about the 30 minutes installation time - however, if have access to some simple hand tools and aren't uncomfortable with working while lying on your back, it is doable in an hour (+/-).
(NOTE: the sheet metal which forms the unibody frame member is easier to deform than might be imagined, I used a 12 inch length of 1/2 inch pipe to deform the holes to the necessary dimension to admit the bolt head and reinforcing plate and it was no problem at all.)

by:

Good hitch, difficult install. It states a 30 min install but you can count on a 2 hour job. Other than that it's a great hitch and
an excellent price.

by:

Overall pleasedNot a 30 minute install, took me about 60 minutes and i'm some what handy with then tools. Would have been very simple if it wasn't for the muffler being in the way.

by:

25 minute installI installed this in about 25 minutes tops. File out the large openings juat a little to get the bolt-head & backing plate through and bolt up with no problem. Nice quality product. Simple install.

by:
2000 Honda CR-V

Everything worked very well. I had to open up the holes in the frame a little to get the bolts through. Thankfully it was described in the instructions.

by:
2001 Honda CR-V

Despite the naysayers (Custom fit and bolts right in? Yeah, sure!), that's exactly what happens. Thanks for a great product and customer service!

by:

Great Price / Easy InstallTook only 30 minutes to install, most of that time was enlarging the holes in the frame. I used a dye gringer rather than a file. Once I enlarged the holes it took less than 10 minutes to actually install the hitch.

by:
1999 Honda CR-V

Happy with service, delivery, & price. Installed last weekend with no problems and everything worked without a hitch! (pun intended)

by:
2000 Honda CR-V

Buy this. I know next to nothing about fixing cars and I put this in. I was lazy and didn't lower my muffler, and it still only took an hour. Use a rounded file and a set of plumbers pliers to make the hole large enough to slip the bracket and bolt in. Line it up a head of time because the directions are a bit confusing. Did this on a 2000 crv. Use it mostly for a bike rack.

by:

as advertised Good product for the money, install was a little tricky.
Put the car on ramps,
detach the muffler from the rubber connectors and use a jack to support it so you don't have to disconnect it. I used a large box wrench to bend the hole in the car frame so the metal hardware they give you would fit after that it's pretty straight forward with the directions. It would take me 10 min to install if I had to do it again...

1997 Honda CR-V

Hitch was just as advertised. There wasn't a video specifically for my 1997 Honda CRV, but watching one for another brand installed on a 2000 gave me enough of an idea to figure it out. Lowering the exhaust and filing open the holes was easier than I thought. I had my son help me hold the hitch while I secured the bolts. It was really pretty easy. I recommend watching a video for the electronics too, but I didn't need to take off as much trim as they recommend. Really simple and secure all the way around. 45 minutes, not including watching the Youtube videos, which again, are well worth your time.

by:

Product arrived incredibly fast and was in perfect shape. Install time is accurate, though can be faster if you drop the muffler out of the way and use a good half-round file. Do a pre-mount line up for the hitch before fishing the bolt into the frame, the directions show two different holes for the mounting location, but only one is correct. You will enlarge the hole you will be mounting the hitch to.

After that minor snafu, the hitch went on with no problems at all and looks great under the car.

Great product, great value, great service, great experience. Can't beat that.

1999 Honda CR-V

The trailer hitch I ordered fit my 1999 Honda CRV with very minor modifications which were described in the instructions. The installation was extremely easy and was completed in less than 30 minutes. The quality and functionality of the hitch is excellent, it will be used to trailer kayaks. I am very satisfied with this product.

by:
1998 Honda CR-V

Not hard to put on looks great. Getting hole over the muffler took some time. Tried drilling like the video, no good. The tried cutoff wheel, still no room. Got small air saw and it was a snap, made two slits and bent it out of the way and bam. Would have been under an our had I used the air saw from the start. Great price and good quality hitch. You don't need a class III on a CR-V as you can't tow anything that big anyway, just unnecessary extra weight. This hitch is perfect.

Hey Doc! Thanks for all the kudos! Truly! What are you going to be haulin with your CR-V?

by:
2000 Honda CR-V

After watching an internet video showing how to install the trailer hitch and wiring harness, the whole process was very easy. I did change things a little in that I used dish detergent (instead of whatever spray the video used) to lubricate the rubber bushings which hold up the exhaust system. They slid off fairly easily. In my 2000 CR-V there is a covered storage pocket on the floor right beneath the speaker where the wiring harness plugs in (see photograph). There is a plastic fastener which attaches the cloth pocket to the plastic sidewall. I removed the fastener and lifted up the pocket. After plugging the trailer wire into the connector at the speaker, I fed the trailer end of the wire harness in back of the plastic sidewall and down and out into the pocket. I put the cloth liner back and this pocket serves as a great place to store the wire harness when not in use. This alternate procedure removed the necessity of unfastening the plastic sidewall and the transom on the tail of the car -- two things which did not want to come loose anyway. So, with a few modifications everything worked great and the trailer now rides behind my CR-V!

1999 Honda CR-V

Trailer hitch bolted up to my CRV with no issues. Extremely fast shipping.

by:
1998 honda CRV

The 24790 trailer hitch for my 1998 CR-V is the best improvement I've made. It fit perfectly. You have to attach the center bolt first and then draw up the two sides bolts. The light hitch & receiver remind you that the CR-V is not made for heavy loads. I use a Hitch-Haul with it, loading a maximum of 200 lbs. The Hitch-Haul is stable on 6" rock, gravel, and improved roads in the mountains at 4-7,000 feet, perfect for an elk hunt. Thanks, etrailer, for a great product at a great price.

Great, George, Ive installed three of them over the years. I always have a difficulty of some kind, but you guys always have an answer. Its working great on all there vehicles.

by:
Honda

The hitch is compatible to Honda CR-V (model 1998) and apparently fits well. One must be careful to adjust the exhaust system and check the engine rotation for smooth operation, otherwise it could produce noise. The electrical wiring is easy to install with little effort. My purpose is specifically to haul garden and landscaping items and this is a worth spending.

by:

The class 1 trailer hitch was just what I needed to pull my small utility trailer. The draw tite hitch is well made and was easy to install. The only problem I had was the instructions that came with the hitch. They were useless. If it wasn't for the video on the etrailer web site I would have been lost. The video gives you step by step instructions. After viewing the video it only took me about 30 minutes to install the hitch.

I called Etrailer late on a Friday afternoon (6:30 PM) not expecting a real live person to answer. But, there she was, not only a real person, but an Etrailer employee! In just minutes, the hitch was ordered, with a delivery day of the following Wed. Delivery day met: PERFECT! The unit fit our Honda 2000 CRV like a glove. Easy installation. Trailer ready now for towing our 9 1/2 foot wooden sailing skiff. I would certainly and highly recommend this Etrailer product and personal to all interested in a great experience. Many Thanks.

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2000 Honda CR-V
When installing any trailer hitch you would have to use all attachment points specified in the instructions. So if you wanted a higher capacity hitch like # 13314 you would have to have that center tow loop welded back onto the vehicle. You will want to consult the vehicle owners manual regarding the towing capacity. From our experiences, the 2000 Honda CR-V is capable of, at most, 1,500 pounds, regardless of what the hitch is rated for. Going with a lower capacity hitch like # 24790...

Yes, we do have a hardware kit available for Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 24790. You will need part # RHK. Under the box that says Shipping Special, enter the hitch number (24790). Then select Draw-Tite from the manufacturer pull down menu. Next, click the Add to Cart button. That is all there is to it. I have also included a link to the installation instructions for this trailer hitch below.

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver, Wiring, And Ball Mount For 1998 Honda CR-V
For your 1998 Honda CR-V, I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 13314. This is a far stronger hitch that will give you some options for many accessories as well as ball mounts. I never recommend a Class I hitch receiver if other options are available as it is extremely limiting in every way. For your trailer wiring, I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118336. This harness connects to factory...

  • Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2001 Honda CR-V Carrying 3 Bikes
The best hitch for carrying three bikes that is available for your 2001 Honda CR-V would be the Curt Class III Hitch # 13314. This is a Class III hitch that has more than enough capacity to carry three bikes. The Draw-Tite Hitch # 24790 that you referenced is a Class I hitch that only can handle 2 bikes at most so it would not be a good choice for you. There are Class II hitches that are 1-1/4 that can handle 3 bikes, but it looks like there are only Class I and Class III hitches available...

  • Weight Capacity Of Draw-Tite Class I Hitch Receiver # 24790 For Honda CR-V
The Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4" # 24790 is rated for a maximum towing weight of 2,000 lbs and a maximum tongue weight of 200 lbs. The tongue weight is the downward force on the hitch. This hitch receiver is a confirmed fit for 1997-2001 Honda CR-V models only and weighs about 18 lbs. For a ball mount, I recommend the Draw-Tite # 3593 for this hitch receiver. Then you can use a 1-7/8 inch ball like # 19256 or a 2 inch ball like # 19258. For...
