Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2000 Honda CR-V

Question:
good day. I had a previous hitch installed on my 2000 crv with a 2000lb capacity and used to tow a 10foot boler trailer max weight approx 1200lb. The centre support eye on the crv just ahead of the bumper had recently failed and broke from its weld. I would like to have a stronger hitch installed in its place eg., curt part 13314. I noticed that the prime support attaches to the car frame, with an additional ubolt attaching to the centre support eye on the crv. Can I still have this stronger hitch installed, recognizing that the centre eye no longer can support any load? Or do I need to alternatively have a lighter hitch eg., curt part 11014 installed, which doesnt use the centre eye.

When installing any trailer hitch you would have to use all attachment points specified in the instructions. So if you wanted a higher capacity hitch like # 13314 you would have to have that center tow loop welded back onto the vehicle.
You will want to consult the vehicle owners manual regarding the towing capacity. From our experiences, the 2000 Honda CR-V is capable of, at most, 1,500 pounds, regardless of what the hitch is rated for. Going with a lower capacity hitch like # 24790 would be the way to go. I cannot find any information on hitch with number 11014.
I have included a link to the installation instructions for the Draw-Tite hitch for you. Please note that all the hitches for your CR-V will need to have that center attachment point so no matter which hitch you choose it will have to be welded back on. Welding should be performed only by a qualified professional.
