Disc Brakes are Better Than Drum Brakes
More and more people are switching their trailers over to disc brakes, and with good reason. Unlike drum brakes, disc brakes deliver consistent braking, even at highway speeds. Disc brakes also offer a substantially shorter stopping distance. Disc brake calipers have only one moving part, so there are fewer parts to maintain, fewer parts to get damaged, and fewer parts to have to repair or replace.
Over-the-Hub Rotors for Easy Replacement
Slip-on, cast iron rotors make it easy to convert an idler axle to a disc brake axle. Simply place the rotor over your hub and use your existing wheel bolts to hold it in place. With a separate rotor and hub, you can easily repair or replace one element of your brake system without having to junk the whole thing.
The rotor is made from cast iron, matching SAE specifications. Cast iron is ideal for high-temperature operations and offers a favorable friction coefficient to ensure adequate stopping power. Rotors are vented to effectively dissipate heat, dramatically reducing the incidence of heat-related damage.

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at the Hydrastar slip-on rotor disc brake kit with the electric over hydraulic brake actuator for a single 6,000-pound trailer axle with a six on five and a half-inch bolt pattern. Now this is an all inclusive kit, so this will have everything you need to switch the trailer over to disc brakes for improved performance and greater stopping power. The over-the-hub rotors are very easy to install. You just slide them over your standard idler hubs and then they're held in place by your existing wheel lug nuts. So there's no need to have to replace your entire hub and rotor assembly if only the hub or the rotor becomes damaged.
It will include everything shown here on the table. Contains two disc brake end kits for one axle. We'll start again with the slip-on Dacromet-coated cast iron rotors are included, two of those. Comes with the inner bearings, the outer bearings, the grease seals. Comes with the Dacromet-coated calipers, have the brake pads and installation bolts included.
And if you notice, we attached them to the Dacromet-coated caliper mounting brackets, which are designed to bolt to a five-bolt brake flange on your axle. Now the Dacromet coating we mentioned on all these parts is on the rotors, the calipers, caliper mounting brackets is corrosion resistant. Now right here is a Hydrastar electric over hydraulic brake actuator. This will hardwire into your tow vehicle and it signals your in-cab brake controller when the brakes are applied. This will trigger the pump and motor on the actuator, which will create a nice, smooth, even braking with a fast response time.
It will work with most in-cab brake controllers. Now also, if you notice, it'll come with all the brake line kits you need. The solid brake lines right here, flexible brake lines, and all the fittings you need to work on a single axle trailer. Now we do list on the product page of this product all of the part numbers that are included with this kit that we just run over. And more and more people are switching their trailers over to disc brakes and with good reason 'cause unlike drum brakes, the disc brakes will deliver consistent braking even at highway speeds.
The disc brakes also offer a substantially shorter stopping distance, and the disparate calipers have only one moving part in them. So there are fewer move parts to maintain, fewer parts to get damaged, and even fewer parts to have to repair or replace. Again, a few specs on this, application is a single axle trailer with a 6,000-pound axle. Bolt pattern again, six on five and a half inches, and the diameter on the rotor is 12 inches. But that should do it for our look at the Hydrastar slip-on rotor disc brake kit with the electric over hydraulic brake actuator for a single 6,000-pound trailer axle.
