Video Transcript for DeeMaxx Actuators | Fast, Reliable Braking | Manufacturer Interview

Hello neighbors, it's Brad here from Etrailer, and today I'm at NATM. And this convention brings a lot of the vendors that we have at Etrailer to a convention where we have their booths and their products set up. I had a chance to catch up with quite a few of them. So let's take a look at their products a little bit up close and ask some of the questions to those vendors about their products. I'm here with Brandon from DeeMaxx, and DeeMaxx offers a whole line of brake products, and we're gonna break these down. So what is DeeMaxx as a company DeeMaxx, we are a light to medium duty trailer disc brake manufacturer.

We kind of have the whole assembly of the process now from the brake lines and fittings up to our actual brake parts themselves, like you see this rotor hub here and the calipers all the way down to the actuators as well. So with disc brakes, putting those on your RV, trailer, camper, whatever it may be, part of getting those to work, it's gonna be an actuator. So what is an actuator and what does it do So it's kind of the start of the whole process. There's gotta be something that actually actuates the brakes, gets the brakes to apply. So this is kind of the head point after your tow vehicle.

So from the tow vehicle, you're gonna be having the electric signal run to the actuator. And that's why it's our electric over hydraulics. And electric signals run into our actuator, starts the actuation process, and then sends, through brake lines tied into fitting, sends the brake fluid out through the brakes and applies the actual braking process of our product. Now as far as different sizes, you have a few different ones, and those account for different setups of brakes. Yep, so we've got kind of a variety of options right now and we're always innovating, always working on helping out the end user.

So as of right now, we've got our lowest pressure actuator for the drum brake guys that like to have a better actuator but still wanna stick with the drum brakes, we've got a 1,000 PSI actuator that's got the 15.7 fluid ounce reservoir, it's got the 1,000 PSI, and it's built for those drum brake guys. Our disc brake guys that are single and tandem trailers, this is our XL model, but we've got our standard model. It's gonna have the same look as this, be a little bit shorter housing unit, same height, same width, just a little bit shorter housing unit, 15.7 fluid ounces, 1,600 PSI. Our XL here, this is gonna be for your triple axle guys. Anything larger or they just need a little bit more brake fluid in that reservoir to feel like they're getting that third axle.

Whereas with tandem axle guys, you know, that 15.7 fluid ounces is good. This XL model, it's gonna be that same 1,600 PSI, but it's gonna be in 28.7 fluid ounces. Just give those guys with bigger trailers a little more reassurance. A couple other products we've got in the works as far as kind of coming out right now, coming out this year, you guys also carry our BLACK actuator. It's gonna be that same 15.7 fluid ounce reservoir, 1,600 PSI, but in black. We've seen a lot of the RV guys, they don't necessarily care the color. It's usually getting tucked away, it's being hidden. But these utility guys, not all of them are hiding it. Marine guys, they're not hiding it. It sits right there on the trailer. So some of them wanted a different color option. So we came up with that for them. And then our newest, our latest and greatest we're starting to push out is our plug and play actuator. That's plain and simple, it is what it is. You don't have the hardwiring you're gonna have to do with our other ones. Some guys do prefer this, some guys prefer the plug and play. But with that plug and play system, you can see in this image, it's the actual plug and play with the connect. You've got your wiring harness, your battery, and your breakaway switch. So you've got everything for that whole plug and play system. And hopefully here soon, you guys are gonna start carrying that. I think that's in the works right now. Yeah, that's huge. And any of the installations I've done, none of it's terribly hard, but the hardest problem I had was getting wires ran up to the seven or the junction box in a fifth wheel. That's something really in the marine industry. Those guys are hot and heavy on plug and play. That's what they've gotta have. In RV industry, those guys aren't as adamant about it. But then again, that's something we talked about helping out the end user, being more retail friendly, someone's not the most mechanically inclined, the most tech savvy, they might struggle with the wiring. Plug and play might be for them, whole lot easier setup up and a whole lot easier conversion process. Now when it comes to actuators, there's plenty of them out there on the market. But I will say, just like your disc brakes, it's premium. It's some of the best out there. And your actuator's no different. How is yours different than other ones out on the market Yeah, so when we first started coming out with the actuator and getting that process going, we wanted to make sure that we we inchesre actually confident in our products or confident in our products' abilities. We didn't want to come out with an actuator that's just as good as what's already out there, the same technology as what's already out there. At that point, we don't have a real competitive advantage over anyone. So we took our product to a independent automotive testing facility in Arizona and we took the other leading competitor actuators on the market. And what we saw impressed us, blew us away. Not only did we see a faster actuation time, faster release time, but we also got to see with our actuators in the different sizes, we got to see a faster actuation at a lower required voltage with our actuator. That's the thing is you guys have really, throughout all your products, it's very thought out to have the best of the best, actuator is no different. And even with the XL we've got, that's something that we took into consideration. Several of the competitors offer a solution to that reservoir that's not holding enough fluid. And a lot of them is add-on pieces, the secondary piece. And it created a second leak point. Guys we inchesre worried about it, created a second, hey, that looks like it might get snapped off pretty easy. So with our XL where we wanted to have that larger fluid reservoir, it's built into the housing. There's no worry about it snapping off another leak point. It's the same housing unit, just longer, and we've got it all built in into the system. Huge thanks to Brandon from DeeMaxx for taking the time to show us all their products. Fantastic stuff. I've got to handle this, I've got to do brake tests on it. I can't say enough good things. So if you are thinking about going to disc brake conversion, take a look at DeeMaxx, there really isn't another one that I would recommend to people. They really put a lot of thought, a lot of effort, and just making the perfect product for anyone out there. So thanks again. Thanks a lot, I appreciate it.

  • Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator Recommendation for Trailer that Will be Towed by Several Vehicles
Hey Kevin, the DeeMaxx Alpha G1600 Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator for Disc Brakes - Plug and Play Kit # DE75KR that you referenced is a solid option and does not require an additional control box to operate unless you would be referring to a brake controller. I don't believe that is what you mean though. The Hydrastar part # HS381-9067 that you referenced is my favorite though. It works really well and is very reliable so whenever possible this is what I recommend. This is also a complete...

  • Will the DeeMaxx Alpha G1600 Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator with 2017-22 GM Brake Controller?
Hello Ziggy, Good question. The DeeMaxx Alpha G1600 Plug and Play Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator # DE75KR works with 2017–2022 GM trucks that have built-in brake controllers, like the Silverado and Sierra. It’s built to “trick” the truck into thinking it’s using regular electric brakes, so it works smoothly even with GM’s picky systems. Some trucks have a setting for electric over hydraulic brakes, but even if yours doesn’t, it should still work fine. It’s easy to hook up, but make sure...
