Today we're going to be taking a look at part number BDW20181. This is the Bulldog Big Dog Shackle. This is the huge oversize shackle that's going to give that truck a nice, big truck look. This portion right here is going to slide into your 2" by 2" trailer hitch receiver. It's going to be great for work trucks that use very large straps. It's going to feature an 1-1/2" diameter forged alloy steel shackle. It has a really nice zinc plating on it so it is going to stand up really well against rust and corrosion.
You can see the large opening space that we have here. I'll take a measurement of that here in a moment. On the shackle itself it's going to give you the diameter which again is 1-1/2" and then on this side it's going to say WLL, that's working load limit, of 17 tons. This is CNC machined when it comes to the solid steel mount. You can see here on the back side solid steel construction. It has a really nice nickel plating on it so it's going to stand up really well against rust and corrosion too. You're going to notice that it's going to have a 5/8" pin hole here on the side as well as here on the top.
Both run all the way through the shank. That's designed so you can use it whether it's in the vertical or horizontal mounting position. You can install it inside your trailer hitch receiver just like this or you can flip it to this position here and still install it inside the same hitch. You can use it in either the horizontal or vertical position. The shackle is removable. This portion right here is just like a large screw.
It just threads through the unit. The threads are going to be on this portion here that's going to hold that long bolt in place. Now let's go ahead and take a look at the measurement here of the opening that it gives us. Measuring this direction, at the widest point that's going to give us an opening of about 3-5/8". Measuring the opening from this portion here to the shackle, that's going to give us a measurement of about 4-5/8". I'll go ahead and show you real quick how that removes.
They put a nice little hole in here so you can stick a piece of metal or steel through there, a long piece, that way you can get some leverage and get it tightened down all the way. That's going to make it for an easier removal as well. Ours is loosely installed today so I can simply just do it by hand, simply just twist it counterclockwise until it disengages. Then you'll be able to pull it all the way out. That's going to do it for today's review of part number BDW20181. This is the Bulldog Big Dog Shackle. .
I recieved this a few days ago. It came in a nicely packed, sturdy box. After opening it up and seeing it for myself, I have to say the quality is awesome! Its a HEAVY shackle. The matte finish on the reciever end is superb (this piece must weigh about 7-10 lbs on its own). The shackle itself has a nice galvanized coating, and weighs about 6-7 lbs! Overall I think it is an awesome addition to any truck, looks great and has all the functionality that you'll probably need out of a shackle. 5/5 would reccomend!
I love this on the front of my F350. Never fails to be a conversation starter
