    • Diamond pattern offers constant traction and a smoother ride than ladder patterns
    • Traction plates bust ice apart
  • Made for passenger vehicles with limited wheel-well clearance
    • Meets SAE Class S standards
    • Creates zero interference behind the wheel
  • Automatically tightens around tire as you drive - no need to stop and tension
    • Securely attaches to wheel lug nut for installation
    • Maintains grip on tire thanks to strong materials and geometric design
  • Removes quickly with external release system
    • Sturdy arms can be folded for compact storage
  • Offers protection for wheel rims - chains sit on tire treads only, leaving wheels untouched

Specs:

  • Fits: 15" - 22" tires (for exact sizes, see below)
  • Lug nut/bolt size: 19 mm and 21 to 22 mm
  • Quantity: 2 chains
  • Internal clearance required: none
  • 5-Year warranty

Note: To determine whether you can use snow chains on your vehicle, or if they might affect your ABS/EPS functionality, consult your owner's manual.

If you're looking for a way to get traction in the snow without scratching your rims, these K-Summit chains are your best option. The chain only sits on the tire tread and is fastened to one of the lug nuts on your wheel with an easy-to-use fixing key. There are no attachments behind the wheel like typical tire chains, which ensures that there is no interference with any suspension or braking components on the inside of the wheel well. You won't have to stop and readjust these chains either - they self-tension, self-center, and conform to the tire perfectly as you drive, providing a precise fit even on worn tires. These chains are ideal for use in light snow and ice.

Class S Designation

SAE Class S tire chains are designed for use on passenger vehicles with restricted wheel-well clearance. Most newer cars, vans, and small trucks - especially those with large aftermarket tires - will require Class S chains. If you're unsure about the class of your vehicle, consult your vehicle's owner's manual.

SAE Class S Clearance Diagram

These chains will fit your tires provided there is both:

  • A - a minimum of 1.46" (37 mm) between the top of the tire tread and the wheel well
  • B - at least 0.59" (15 mm) between the tire's sidewall and the vehicle

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you wont be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. Even these low-profile chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Installing Tire Chains

Because these chains are customizable, the first fitting could take a little time but after that, it's simple. The included instructions will let you know if you need to adjust the chains based on your tire size.

Remove lug cover if present

1. To begin installation, you'll need access to your wheel's lug nuts. If you have a plate covering your lug nuts, pop it off using either the included Allen key or a flathead screwdriver.

Determine size of lug nuts

2. Determine which lug nut adapter you'll need to fit over the nut on your wheel. Attach that adapter to the included fixing key. The most commonly used adapters are included.

Lay chains over tire thread

3. Fit the chain over your wheel, getting it as far onto the tire as possible.

Tighten lug nut adapter

4. Using the fixing key, thread the included bolt into the adapter. The other end of the fixing key will attach to the K-Summit base, which includes the ratcheting mechanism that tensions the chains as you drive.

The adapter secures over your lug nut to hold the K-Summit base in place on your wheel. You might need to use the included spacer to get the chains to sit properly.

Quick Tips:

  • Lengthen the life of snow chains by drying them after each use before you store them.
  • Check out our installation kit with safety lights and a kneeling pad (PO34FRK) to make things a little easier when you're installing chains out in the snow.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

Stay the away from this dangerous, poorly designed, incredibly overpriced, disaster waiting to happen, product.
After following etrailers tire size calculator I ordered the K Summit chains for my Mercedes AMGGLC 43. I live full-time in a Mountain Community at 6000 feet and I’ve had many vehicles and experiences with tire chains and cables. I ordered these chains because of their supposed efficacy with high-performance vehicles with low profile tires, etc. Despite adequate practice pre-storm, by myself and both my sons who are in their 20’s, these over priced dangerous pieces of garbage failed on December 20, 2020 during a blizzard in our community while trying to get my sons to the airport. The right sided chain disappeared after less than 2 miles of driving and we were left stranded in a ditch on the wrong side of the road for days before our vehicle could be towed out due to the high demand in the area. I have been driving in snow conditions since I was a teenager, I am now 65. I have driven in worse conditions with 2 Wheel vehicles with regular chains and rarely failed to get home or around when I needed to. My Mercedes AMG has traction control, all wheel drive, slippery mode, and can be raised to avoid obstacles. Nonetheless, in this unusual freak blizzard, when I needed a chain product the most, these failed me and my family miserably. Their customer support consisted of a never ending chain of transfers from one person or department to another, and to this day I’ve never received a refund or gotten satisfaction. If I could’ve burned the remaining K summit chain I would’ve, but I had to settle for the pleasure of throwing the remaining one away in the expensive case it came in. Do yourself and anyone else you know who is shopping for chains a favor and warm them away from this failure prone overpriced piece of junk. RRT.

I have reached out to the manufacturer and determined that these chains would be a fit for the tire size. When installing the chains you will want to make sure that you are attaching the lug nut adapter that matches the wheel bot size. etrailer.coms custom fitguide will indicate whether your vehicle requires an adapter that is sold separately. And that you are using the cage, spacer and adapter correctly.

Very unique design. Do set them up and put them on before you really need them. The screws that adjust the size do take some time to remove. Unlike others, I had few to no issues getting them off. They fit snuggly on my tires. They were a little hard to get off after releasing the tension, but I guess that is good too. I will have to wait until I need them to put them to the ultimate test.

This isnt directed towards etrailer, they have been nothing but amazing. overall these chains are really expensive for snow chains that will only be used a couple of times a year. The instruction manual is horrible, directions are very broad and not specific at all which was beyond frustrating. Thankfully I fitted and tested the chains at home before I went up to the snow, one chain fell off during the first test but then I put it back on and it stayed on. I haven't been to the snow with them yet, so wish me luck!

This review relates to the product, not etrailer, as they have been a good retailer. The Konig self tensioning tire chains are a horrible product. They are poorly engineered. The instructions are average, but not detailed to the level of complication associated with the product. Installation is a two person job, and make sure you have that extra person around for a few days because they are very likely to fly off during driving. After coming off the fifth time, having been professionally installed, I pulled over and took the other off and left them for the next person to try. This is the worst winter traction device ever designed and built. I bought these due to wheel size given low profile tires and wide rims - I think I will just get some winter rims and tires and run those for four months with some simple and far less expensive (and more reliable) cable chains. I would avoid this product - etrailer has many better options for you.

2015 Audi Q5

Bought the chains for a stay in Truckee. We never got hit with snow that required chains but I put them on as a test before the trip and they went on easily. Don't know how they work over an extended period but they seem good and etrailer.com was great in helping me get the chains adjusted properly as the directions could use a few more words to go with the pictures.

by:

I did need to adjust the "chains" for my tire size. It was easy to do with the supplied tools. They are indeed easy to put on and take off. The tension mechanism works great for keeping them on. The first time you put them on, you might wonder if you've done it correctly? Of course, you should practice once before you leave home. They are not "chains"; they don't rattle!

by:

I appreciate the follow up to ask about my experience and to be honest I'm a little disappointed.

I only needed the chains for a short drive (about 2 miles at most) last year and they worked as advertised. That's great.

However- this year I needed them for a similarly short period - only a few miles - and one fell off whilst I was on the highway. I didn't notice at first but a passing motorist flagged me down.

I had to walk over a mile on a dangerous stretch of highway, in the snow and ice to retrieve it.

I had read reviews of others who had lost their chains whilst driving, chalking it up to user error, but now I know different!!

These are great chains, however, we do highly recommend following the instructions to a T. These require adapters for the lug nuts and a lot of adjusting in order to get them installed tightly. I have sent your information over to our customer service department for them to assist you.

by:

Worked fine going up a mountain a couple of miles to our cabin. Over an icy trail. Unfortunately the next day going down, after we got to the bottom, discovered they both had come off! And were lost somewhere back up the mountain. Of course we could not go back to find them because we had no chains!

I haven't used them yet but did put them on and it was easy. They look tough and I am glad I purchased them. I occasionally travel in the mountains and have them for the worst case scenario like I was in a few years ago with an AWD. I now have a two wheel drive I feel much more confident.

Fantastic product that fits nearly every tire size. Online video tutorials make install very easy.

by:

Easy fitment and excellent versatility. While they are more expensive than conventional chains they are far superior to normal chains.

So far so good. I’m waiting for snow before I give 5 stars.
It’s recommended you fit the chains before you actually need them to get familiar with the innovative design. I had to remove all 5 yellow bolts since my wheels are larger. Keep the extra hardware but you won’t need them unless you change cars.
Once fitted you’re good to go.
Wear gloves to mount them in about 5 minutes.

  • Tire Chain Recommendation for 2019 Jeep Cherokee with Aftermarket Tires
The two 18 inch stock tire sizes found on a 2019 Jeep Cherokee are 225/55-18 and 225/60-18. If your 2019 Jeep Cherokee has 225/55-18 tires, then the Konig Standard Snow Tire Chains # TH01571240 will do a great job at providing superior grip on snow and ice. They also feature integrated rubber tensioners which will help to properly fit and tension the chains on the tire. If you're in fact running 255/55-18 tires on your Jeep, then your best option is to go with the Konig Self-Tensioning...

  • Tire Snow Chain Recommendations for 2011 BMW X5
Usually, when a vehicle manufacturer recommends against using tire chains, it's because there's limited clearance between the inside sidewall of the tire and the suspension/braking components of the vehicle. A chain that extends too far to the inside of the tire could cause severe damage to the vehicle. I cannot recommend you do anything that would contradict BMW's advice regarding tire chain usage, that's a decision you'd need to make on your own. If you need to travel to areas where...

We have one solution that will work well for you. The Konig K-Summit Chains part # TH02230K66 are a fit for your tire size 225/60R18 and actually require zero internal clearance since they do not go over the inner shoulder of the tire. 7 mm of clearance is very small for a tire chain. The closest traditional style chain/cable would require 10 mm so the K-Summit would be only option.

This chain design is one of the only types that isn't going to damage the wheels on your Mercedes GLE350 so I would highly recommend them for you! I attached a review video link for the K-Summits for you to check out as well.

  • Recommended Tire Chains for a 2015 Ram Promaster 1500 with 225/75R16 Tires
If you plan on having to install and remove tire chains off of the 225/75R16 tires on your 2015 Ram ProMaster 1500 frequently then I recommend investing in chains that are easily installed/removed. I also took a look at the online version of the owner's manual for your ProMaster and low clearance and the potential to interfere with suspension components is something to watch out for. It also stated to only install chains on your front tires only. With this in mind I highly recommend the...

  • Tire Chain Recommendation for 2019 RAV4 Adventure with Tire Size 235/55-19 With Limited Clearance
The best solution is to contact a Toyota dealer in an area near mountains and ask them what they recommend people do. On one hand you don't want to void the warranty of the vehicle, and on the other you want to be able to be compliant with snow chain laws as well as not get stranded. Normally dealers in mountain areas will have a suitable compromise. We do have a great solution that would be the best possible option for your tire size of 235/55-19 with limited wheel clearances. For that...

  • Class S Compatible Tire Chain Recommendation for 2016 Honda CR-V
Only Honda can really answer that but most likely it's that they tested that specific Class S option and to be extra cautious they only want to recommend a specific chain for your vehicle. Since Class S compatible is a clearance measurement I'd be shocked if only that one specific chain fit well. The K-Summit chains part # TH02230K66 that you referenced are a fit for the tire size that came on your 2016 Honda CR-V of 225/60-18. These chains have the best clearances of all tire chains...

  • Tire Chain Recommendation for 2011 Range Rover Sport with 255/50R19 Tires
We have a very similar set of chains to the Spike Spyder traction devices that the owners manual of your 2011 Land Rover Range Rover Sport calls for that has also been confirmed as a fit for the tire size 255/50R19 that you have. You would want the Konig K-Summit Chains part # TH02230K66. These use the same principal as the Spike Spyder devices. They attach to the lug nut, only have chains on the top of the tire tread and don't require any inner sidewall clearance. I attached an install...

  • How High Above the Tire Tread will the Thule K-Summit Chains Sit When Installed
I measured a set of K-Summit tire chains like the # TH02230K66 that you referenced and found that at the highest point they will sit about 12.5 millimeters above the tread of your tires. Check out the video I attached that shows me taking this measurement. I also attached a couple review videos for these chains for you to check out also.

  • 2015 BMW X5 Tire Chain Recommendation
The final authority on snow chain use for your 2015 BMW X5 M Sport will be the owners manual. In there it will be listed which tires should have chains installed. On most all wheel drive vehicles the rear axle is the one to use if only one set is desired. The K-Summit chains part # TH02230K66 would the one to use on your 315/35/20 tires as well as the 275/40/20 that you have on the front. The K-Summits are one of the nicest sets on the market because of how well they work, install, and...
