  • Installs easily with integrated, heavy-duty lever
    • Side cams provide effortless tightening - twist cams to pull chain taut around tire
    • Rubber adjusters (sold separately) are recommended for a tight fit
  • Constructed of case hardened, low-carbon steel
  • Works with either front- or rear-wheel-drive vehicles

Specs:

  • Fits: 15" - 20" tires (for exact sizes, see below)
  • Quantity: 2 chains
  • 90-Day warranty

Note: To determine whether you can use snow chains on your vehicle, or if chains might affect your ABS/ESP functionality, consult your owner's manual.

These chains are great for giving you extra traction in deep snow. But if you're more likely to see seriously icy conditions, you may want a chain with square or V-bar links that can really bite into the ice for more traction.

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new snow chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Installing Snow Chains

Installing tire chains is easy.

Lay chains on the ground to get all the tangles out

1. Lay out the chains on the ground to make sure there are no twists or kinks.

Cross chain connections should have the prongs facing away from the tire

2. Drape the chain over your tires, making sure that the prongs attaching the cross chains to the side chains face away from your sidewalls. Drive forward about half a tire rotation.

Connect chains on the back and front of the tire

3. On the back of the tire, pull the chain tight and hook the ends together. Repeat this on the front of the tire, then clamp the lever to fasten extra chain links and keep them from flapping as you drive.

Use tool to tighten cams on the sidewall chains

4. Insert the included tool into the cam and twist to tighten the sidewall chain. Twist as many cams as it takes to get a tight fit.

Rubber adjusters ensure a tight fit

5. Drive forward 2-3 vehicle lengths and recheck the chains tension. Tighten any loose cams.

If needed, rubber adjusters (sold separately) can be used to get a tight fit. Make sure the hooks face away from your tire so your wheels don't get scratched.

Quick Tips:

  • Lengthen the life of snow chains by drying them after each use before you store them.
  • Check out our installation kit with safety lights and a kneeling pad (PO34FRK) to make things a little easier when you're installing chains out in the snow.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

Delivered the wrong size chains. I ordered 255/55/20 I received chains for 15 inch rims. Dealing with a Phillip H at your company no positive solutions.

The bags that come with the tires chains does not list every size that they fit. These chains will fit with the 255-55-20 tires.

Excellent chains on 2005 GMC Sierra. Cam Locks are good but you really need to use a tire bungee or equivalent to pull the chains tighter. I use wire ties for the extra length of chain on the inside and outside firewall. Turns the truck into a total snow beast, I have yet to get stuck and have never used the winch I bought for that purpose.

Sold the GMC, bought a 2011 Tundra 4.6L DoubleCab. These chains fit a little better on that vehicle. This time the chains are on an all season radial, not snow tires. Makes the truck invincible as a plow machine. I install them on a level garage floor and make very sure they are on super tight.

by:
2013 Honda Odyssey

Although I haven't used them in ice or snow yet, the snow chains appear to be of great quality and are very easy to install. The cam tighteners work nicely and hold the chain on the tire with no slack. Etrailer.com was great to work with. Ordering was easy. They kept me updated via email during the shipping process. They upgraded my free shipping and I received my order in 2 business days instead of 7 as projected originally. I can tell that they care about their customers.

I got them after the big snowice storm we had here last year. I only had the opportunity to use them one time since getting them and really just went out then to try them out in some slush. I like them and enjoy the fact that they are in the truck at all times. It doesnt snow/ice much here, but Im ready if it does. Its bad to be like this, but I hope it snows this year just so I can use my chains? Ha!I have told others about your company and encouraged them to get chains from you.

Everything about this order from browsing the eTrailer web site, to calling and talking to customer service (George), to ordering and receiving the tire chains was excellent. I got what I ordered and the chains fit my vehicle perfect. Thanks to eTrailer for understanding what customer service is all about.

Shipping was prompt. Haven’t used product yet so can’t speak the quality of said product

by:

great productThe chains worked great in the deep snow we were hit with over the weekend. I was the only one on my road that was able to get off the mountain. The grades here are steep and without the chains you can't get up the hills. My driveway has a 9 percent grade and I didn't even slip a tire going up it.

2005 Silverado with unstoppable traction. Thanks! Fantastic Chains.

These chains are amazing! Super easy to put on and take off with the provided tool. They work great in Northwoods of Minnesota where last year we saw over 12 feet of snow.

Havent used them at all. Thats good! Theyre my insurance policy against bad weather.

by:

Exactly what I was told they would be. A descent low end chain. Not a disposable like the really cheap ones, but not for anyone who needs a truly durable chain. These are a good choice for the once every two or three years user.

by:

Have not had to use these chains yet, but I did a practice run of hooking them up. They fit nicely and it was not too hard to install them.

by:

The people were good to work with. The problem was they sent me the wrong tire chains two times. So after sending the chains back two times I canceled the order. They came with no locking hook ends on the chain.

eTrailer has asked me to review this product, which I purchased last year.

Unfortunately, I have been fortunate and have not found myself in road conditions requiring the use of chains, and therefore I cannot attest to its quality or performance at this time.

I keep them in a toolbag in the truck, along with the Multi-Arm Rubber adjusters I also purchased.

I rate 5 star because they are still in new condition and show no signs of deterioration.

Still perfect and functional when needed

by:
2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Appear to be very high quality.
Install
easily.
Rubber tensioners are unnecessary.
After a quick 50’ roll, loosen cams, readjust hooks and retighten cams: tight enough to work properly, loose enough to settle into their home and squirm (very little) to better suit the terrain.
They were purchased “just in case”, but I have no doubt that they will perform admirably, should the need arise!

by:

I ordered three sets of chains. One for my van, one for my small truck and one for my big truck. The chains with the cams are very nice and easier to deal with. Don't buy the rubber rings with hooks that is used to keep the chain centered, it is cheap and will not last the winter. Buy the short rubber straps at any hardware, they work perfectly. These are adequate chains for moderate use.

2008 Ford Expedition

Great chains i guess, haven't used them yet but i have order 3 to 5 sets of chains over the last 7 years or so for various different vehicles and they always came with a nice carry bag with a handle. This one did not. A burlap bag that i had to cut open. Not etrailer's fault i guess, and i guess the manufacturer skimped on the bag to save me money but I'd rather spend a few more dollars to have a carry bag included.

We didn't need the chains on this trip to Mammoth Mountain. However, Emily at Etrailer.com was extremely helpful. Friendly, professional and patient, Emily listened to my needs and offered advice in purchasing the right chains for our 4Runner. Additionally, the product came as Emily promised before we left for our skiing trip. Emily is definitely an asset to Etrailer.com. Thank you!

by:

Living in North, you are required to carry chains from Nov through March while going over passes. I have not used this chain yet so I won’t be able to tell much about the effectiveness of it but at a glance the pair looks sturdy and came with a well made carrying bag. The purchase from etrailer.com was smooth and delivery was on time.my purchase was solely based on the reviews of other customers.

2005 Dodge Dakota

Just received these chains. They look great and are well constructed of heavy guage chain. My tires are 265/70/16 and are on my 2005 Dodge Dakota. They did seem a little big with 4 extra links. I simply removed a couple of them.

Would recommend these chains to others, a very good value at the price.

Ordered snow chains for my 2007 FJ. Ordered on Sun. and received them on the following Friday. Only opened for inspection so far, and haven't had a chance to install them yet. Although I found that there made in China, they look like there heavy duty and will get the job done, when needed. very happy with purchase price and product. Thanks etrailer.com

Good news, I was able check our warehouse to see if your chains will come in a bag or not. I found that the Glacier Chains # PWH2228SC will arrive to you in a sewn up fabric bag that is not intended for storing them. I would recommend getting the # PW2 utility tote bag which is rated for 40lbs. and is 10 inches long by 10 inches wide by 6 inches tall. The # PWH2228SC chains weigh about 28 lbs., so this bag will work perfect for them.

  • Tire Chains for a 1994 Chevy Silverado C2500
For the best possible traction, braking, and handling characteristics for traveling in the snow with your 1994 Chevy Silverado C2500 you would want to run them on all of the wheels. • Recommended Tire Chains for a 1997 Toyota 4Runner Limited
The # PW2028C Glacier cable snow chains are a fit for the 265/70-16 tire size on your 1997 Toyota 4Runner, but I would definitely recommend getting the rubber adjusters. • Tire Chain Recommendation for 2008 Cadillac Escalade with Tire Size 265/65-18
We have tire chains that fit your tire size of 265/65-18 but the Titan chains part # TC2524 are not them. Instead you would need any of the chains at the attached link. The Glacier Twist Link chains part # PWH2228SC are a fit and will have a smoother ride quality due to the link design. Be sure to check the owners manual of your vehicle to determine if there are any tire chain restrictions.

  • Does Tire Air Pressure have to be Reduced when Using Tire Chains
No, you will not have to change the air pressure in the tires when using tire chains such as # PWH2228SC. If your vehicle has a tire pressure monitoring system the use of chains could affect that system (give false readings) but you will not have to change the pressure and pressure monitoring systems will function like normal again when chains are removed.
