Installation

1. Drape the chain over the tire and drive forward about 1/4 of a tire revolution. (You can also lay the chain out and then drive onto it.)

2. Fasten the ends of the chain together.

3. Use the cam tensioning devices that are built into the side chain to tighten. Do this by inserting the flat end of the included wrench into the slot on each cam and twisting it.

4. Drive forward a bit and tighten the chain as needed.

You can use rubber or chain adjusters (sold separately) to increase the tension on the chains for a tighter fit.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire, as shown below.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

Video Transcript for Titan Chain Snow Tire Chains with Tensioners Review

Hey, everybody, Adam here with etrailer. Today we're going to be taking a look at the Titan Chain Snow Tire Chains. So these are a ladder pattern style chain. What that means is we're just going to have these cross chains going across. So these are gonna leave a little bit of gap. So we are gonna kinda go from chain to rubber, to chain to rubber.

These aren't going to be the smoothest of all the chains that you have, but when it comes to ladder rack or ladder pattern style chains, this is going to be fairly smooth because we do have the twist links. It's not gonna be as aggressive as the V-Bar style chains, because those are extremely aggressive. Those are gonna be for off-road and on-road. These are gonna be only for on-road, to make sure that you're not gonna go over 30 miles an hour 'cause they do have a speed rating. So you just want to make sure and do all of that.

One thing I like about these is the cam tensioners. These are really gonna take a lot of that slack out and you have a little tool that goes with it that goes in there. Which you have plenty of leverage to be able to get those chains on there. So it's going to be nice and tight. And another thing that I really noticed, we have one little section right here.

That's kind of close, but if you position them right, we're not gonna really have any contact with our wheels. I like that just because these aren't coated or anything, they're just made of a low carbon steel. So if it does start to hit these wheels, maybe we have some icy, deep snow and might start to kind of push in on this, but it's not really going to mess the sidewall of your tire up at all. If I we're to recommend another chain, it would just be the chains that aren't ladder pattern style. 'Cause these, you have to get down on the ground and make that connection in the back.

If you prepare for it in your garage, obviously you're not gonna have to get down in the snow, but odds a lot of the times you're just stuck, and that's why you put chains on. So with this you're gonna have to kinda get down and get a little wet whenever you install these. So we do have other ones that are just gonna have a connection in the back, they come as self-tensioning tire chains. And another thing that's nice about those. We don't have to grab the rubber tensioners. But these are gonna get the job done. You know, I don't really care, what's on my tires. I just wanna get unstuck. And these are gonna do that for you. It does come in a pack of two. So all you got to do is grab one of these and put 'em on your rear wheels. Just want to make sure and check your owner's manuals. Figure out exactly where the manufacturer wants you to put the chains. So always check just to be safe. And then it does come in a little canvas bag. This isn't my favorite bag. It does tend to kind of rip they do fit in there. So it's not really tough to get 'em in, once you take them off your tires, but this does rip over time. The chains are gonna last a long time, multiple seasons, easy. The bag, probably not. Some of the other options that aren't ladder pattern styles come in a hard carrying case, which is also a little bit easier and more aesthetically pleasing than just an old canvas bag. So, if you really are kind of looking for the whole entire package deal. Where you don't have to grab extra tensioners and you have a really nice carrying case. We do have a lot on our website, but these are going to get the job done. And that'll do it for a look at the Titan Chain Snow Tire Chains..

Ordered two pair of chains and received two different styles with same part#. Not a big deal, still made them work. Free shipping was only a few days. Over all a good experience and product.

They look to be some pretty durable chains. Bummer they didn’t come with the reusable canvas bags, but that’s not really make-it or break it for me. I can find a box at [online] to fit in my truck. Fast shipping time too!

I love my titan chains. I purchased them last winter and had them on my Toyota truck the entire season. I live in a remote mountainous area on a forest service road that is not maintained so I needed a dependable set of chains and these were perfect. Ran all four tires with chains and a 4 wheel drive truck and had access all the time. Great chajns!!!!

The chains are nice and sturdy a little challenging to put on but the more I use them the faster it goes

These chains are amazing! I use them on a 12 passenger van and they install very quickly and easily. I have driven on unplowed roads with 2' snow drifts and have hauled trailers through muddy fields without getting stuck. I highly recommend them.

by:

I know iron. 17 yrs trucking, mostly doubles across Montana into the Dakotas. Chained up a lot.
Pictures show what you get with this set I bought for my 2005 Tahoe. Heavy gauge chains w/triple cam locks w/long wrench for excellent leverage to get cams tight. Tight cams mean links don't "slap" pavement which causes increased wear. They arrived today so not used yet. However, for my application they will last a lot longer than those cheaper; light gauge, "disposable" chains, use once and throw away after you pay a tow bill.

by:

The first trip I used them on, one of the chains snapped and shredded the inside of my fender as well as some damage to the outside. I was willing to give benefit of a doubt that it was a one time fluke. Called and tried to return and/or exchange. etrailer.com wanted me to pay for the shipping back even though it was within the 30days of purchase. The shipping would of cost me more than half of what I paid for them. Even after a couple of customer care calls and emails, etrailer.com still refused to pay the shipping to exchange them.

Chains looked good. After watching installation video it was a breeze to put on. They fit perfect. I’m only testing them right now so when I need to use them I’ll be more comfortable. I drove 1:2 mile down & back and the chains hadn’t moved.

I bought a pair of twist link (TC3235) for my front tires and V-Bars (TC3835) for my rear tires, so writing a combined review. The V-Bars have more traction but my front end doesn't have as much clearance so I opted for the twist links in the front.  I've now used these offroad 4 times, and once briefly onroad during a major ice storm that left all of our roads with skating rink type ice.
First - both chains fit 37" x 12.5 R18 tires perfectly.  This is despite the fitment not being listed on etrailer.com and the etrailer CS rep telling me they wouldn't fit.  The Titan catalogue / website does list 37x12.5R18.
Second - two pair of chains *just* fit in a milwaukee packout "Compact Tool Box" (model No: 48-22-8422).  There isn't a wasted inch of space.  After using them, I dry them in my garage, then douse them in WD-40 before putting them back in the packout.  These chains are made from an alloy that prioritizes strength over corrosion resistance, so surface rust appears pretty quickly on them.  Be warned that lifting all four chains together is heavy.
Third - They give amazing offroad traction.  The only way you're getting stuck is by getting high-centered.  You will not run out of traction if you have weight on your tires.  However, it is easy to get high centered when using these in the snow if you aren't careful.  Don't spin your tires, or your axles and frame rails will be holding the vehicle while your wheels hang in the air.
Fourth - I would only recommend using these onroad in very limited circumstances. During an ice storm I had to get a neighbor to the hospital. We live on an extremely steep hill and the roads had 1" of clear ice on them.  With the chains it was like the ice wasn't there.  But the whole truck vibrated a lot.  And it probably prematurely wore the chains.  If I drove faster than ~15-20 mph it really rattled the truck.  (offroad in the snow I'll drive 40+ mph no problem with these.  but driving on hard surfaces causes a lot of vibration).

First time purchasing tire chains I must say this Titan product is pretty heavy duty I like the chrome finish I’m running a BFG all terrain 32x11.5 R15 the fit was perfect I would like to give a shout out to etrailer customer service team very professional & knowledgeable new exactly what chain was needed having provided lots of choices and option's that was important to me there shipping was very fast impressed caught me by surprise there communication was great keeping us informed the entire process they surely deserve this 5 star review thank you

Needed these chains for a snowboarding trio this December. Installed them in my yard to make sure they fit, and figure out which link worked best. Now that i know what link to use, next time it should only take sbout 10 min to put them on. I really like how they stay away from my wheels so should not scrstch them. My yard was very soft from recent rain and you can see how well the chains dig into the mud. Should be really good on snow/ice.

  • Recommended Tire Chains for Airstream Flying Cloud Travel Trailer
I'll provide 2 options for you, one that's recommended for snow and ice, and one that works better for snow only. For snow and icy conditions, the Titan V-bar chains, part # TC2816CAM features V-shaped studs that really bite into the ice for superior traction. The chain set includes a cam-style tightener, but I'd still recommend using adjusters like part # TCMA2. If you're not going to encounter much in the way of ice, but will be dealing with snowy conditions, the Titan Twist-Link chain...

  • Best Snow Tire Chain for 2016 Polaris Ranger UTV
I have a couple options for tire chains for your 2016 Polaris Ranger UTV. It depends on what situation you want them for. My personal favorite is the Titan Chain Alloy Tire Chain # TC1545 with its diamond pattern and relatively easy to install design. The diamond pattern has more tire coverage than your traditional ladder style chains, so it is great with maneuvers like sharp turns or quick stops. If you're planning on driving through mud a lot, then Titan Chain Tire Chains with Cams...

The Titan Chain Snow Tire Chains with Cams # TC2216CAM that you're looking at will fit different tires than what you have on your 2003 Dodge Ram 1500. The correct part number for this style that fits your 265/70-17 tires is found as # TC2228 on our site. I actually recommend going with the Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains # TC2326 instead though because these use a square link in a diamond pattern which means they are easier to install and they provide better traction. It's also a bonus...

The Titan Chain Snow Tire Chains # TC2216CAM that you referenced are sold in pairs, so it comes with two chains. One for each side of either the front or back axle. You will need to check the owners manual of your vehicle to determine if there are any restrictions on snow chain usage with your vehicle.
