Jeff Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this Pop and Lock custom tailgate handle with the lock. In the nice Speedway blue color. Now this is a custom fit part. It is designed to fit the 2005 to 2014 Toyota Tacoma trucks.
And on a custom fit part like this I always like to recommend for you to go to our website, use the fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle. And it'll show if this will work for application. Now this locking tailgate handle will help discourage theft of your cargo and even of your tailgate. Creates a nice secure storage for valuables when used with a tonneau cover or truck bed cap. The lock cylinder itself has the BOLT, B-O-L-T, codeable technology.
So that it could be keyed to match your OEM truck key. Now one note I do wanna mention is this lock can only be coded once. So you wanna make sure to insert the key that's intended for everyday use only. It is a nice tough armored steel lock. Resists tampering.
And as we mentioned this is customized for your vehicle. It's a nice ABS plastic locking handle. Replaces our OEM tailgate handle. And it is designed to work with trucks with or without a backup camera. You can right here is where that camera would go if you have one.
It is a nice Speedway blue color to match your vehicle's factory paint. And it is a nice raised lock for quick key access. Very simple installation. There's no drilling or welding necessary. Does include the tailgate handle, the lock mechanism and all the hardware that's needed for installation. It even comes with a nice set of installation instructions that describes how to install it. This part is made in the USA. But again there's your handle that operates. And then once you lock it it'll lock the handle from opening. The new lock is very good, the key setup is a little hard to follow, I did get it to work finally but was not straight forward, over all I am happy with the product.
This is just what I needed for my 2015 Tacoma. I bought the pickup a few months ago and put a bed cover on it. I needed a tailgate lock and Pop & Lock has met that need. It looks almost original and works great! Would definitely recommend if you need a tailgate lock for your pickup.

I have a 2015 Tacoma and 3/4 years ago I ordered a POP AND LOCK for my truck. Last week I went to open the tail gate and heard a snap and the key turned 360. Being the tail gate was closed I had a hard time getting to the linkage and locking device with the tail gate closed. I finally was able to remove the plastic cover without damaging the Tacoma cover. I found the finger that operates the lock/open linkage to be snapped. I am the only one using the lock . So I can say it wasn't broke by undo force. So I ordered a new POP/LOCK. when I received it , I had a terrible time getting the old one removed. Three of the 4 10mm screws came out without a problem . The fourth one wouldn't come out. This was one of the two that hold in the camera. The metal threaded part was spinning inside the plastic. My guess this was because of two different metals (the 10mm screw and the metal threaded insert ). I had to carefully destroy the old POP/LOCK to save the piece that holds in the camera. Luckily, I did save the piece. I installed the new POP/LOCK and used never seize on the threads.
I have the following suggestions. Supply new screws that are the same metal as the inserts . Tell in the instruction to use a never seize on the threads.

Excellent product! I installed the tailgate handle with lock on my 2013 Toyota Tacoma in less than 30-minutes, including the backup camera. The fit and finish looks OEM and it functions as advertised. The Codes to Ignition Key feature is an added plus. I highly recommend this product!

Installation was easy. I really like the color match. I also like that it locks.
Initial order was in limbo because UPS lost it during hubs. etrailer was not only quick to send a new unit out but very kind during the process. Service was phenomenal. Product is 3-4 star. Everything works like it should however this is the second time I've purchased this unit for the same truck. Handle is thin plastic and gets weak after about 5 years.

Easy peasy install
Instalation went well , key locked & unlocked, then closed gate, and locked again,but then the left side of gate would not open. OH MY, ha. Somehow the sm. Plastic lock for the rod came loose.oh my, but thanks to my HEAVENLY FATHER , after some time I was able to remove screws and force my hand in to pull rod open an replace.thanks looks good.
looks good fits perfect. install went very easy but not to sure if the handle will last long seems a little on the weak side.
For the cost, I was expecting a much nicer finish. The paint is dull compared to my truck, and it’s basically mostly plastic for that price of a far superior latch assy. 2 years ago I purchased a metal replacement latch assy for my Chevy pickup that only cost around $40. Both units have the same key-coding process.

Color match was a little off not too bad. The fit was good. The handle is very cheap feeling and flimsy. I'm trying to be careful with it. Not really worth what I had to pay, but no other options.
Tailgate handle feels sturdy. It was an easy installation probably less than 10 minutes. However, it is not the most ergonomic handle. Takes quite a good amount of strength to open the tailgate. It’s a bit clunky not so smooth but the lock now works with my ignition key so that’s good.
Installed lock unit in very short time with no hassles. Was very happy with ease of installation and fit.
Have plenty of faith that this tailgate lock system will give years of service.
Needed to have items secure in bed of truck while traveling.
It matches my 2005 Tacoma paint silver streak mica. Easy to install with u tube video. The feature that keys the lock to the ignition key is great. Don't have to carry an extra key. Also, etrailer's processing, pick and tracking information was excellent.
Arrived on time and as advertised. Found a great You tube video that covered installation. Was able to do so in 30 minutes. Only suggestion is that the package came with no instructions but had a QR code. Unfortunately, the QR led me to a brief installation guide with size 4 font. Nonetheless, it was pretty straightforward to install. Another challenge, nothing to do with the product, was unplugging the harness connector to the camera! Just a note for future buyers to be prepared for. All automotive connectors have latches but over time these latches can lose their elasticity so I had to use a small screwdriver to disengage, being careful to to break it. The key setting feature is awesome allowing me to use my ignition key to lock and unlock the tailgate latch.
