Video Transcript for 20 Ft 4-Way Trailer Wiring Harness Feature Review

Hello everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at this Optronics 20 foot long Wishbone 4-Way Trailer Wiring Harness. Now this 4-way trailer wiring harness will install on your trailer and connects to your tow vehicle to control your trailer light functions. This one we call a wishbone-style harness 'cause it's designed to have two brown taillight wires, one for each side of the trailer, that'll split for simple wiring of your trailer. This will allow you to run wires separately down each side of the trailer to your taillights without needing a jumper wire.

If you notice the ground wire on this with the eyelid on it, is the white wire that has 30 inch length to it. We mentioned the total wire harness length is 20 feet, and the wires are color coded, so that'll help with installation. We mentioned the white is your ground. The brown, there's two of 'em, one for each side, those are your tail lights, and then you'll notice the brown right here. If we do the brown and the yellow side, that's for your driver's-side stop and turn, and this one here is the brown and the green wire, which is your passenger-side stop and turn.

So you just run those down each side, driver's side and passenger side, and you don't have to run a jumper wire in between. But that should do it for the review on the Optronics 20 foot long Wishbone 4-Way Trailer Wiring Harness.

fast shipping, great product, just what I needed

by:

Right on the money and lightening fast delivery.

by:

Nice produce decent price. I bought two, and which I bought a third for a spare.

by:

Wire strands are separate entire length. Fitting is molded precisely and fits together snugly enough you know it will not come out.

by:

Product as described. Amazingly fast shipping. Ordered Monday morning received Tuesday morning. This was with the cheapest shipping option too! They definitely have all my business for any of my trailer needs.

by:

This wiring setup was a direct replacement for the wiring of my 8x4 utility trailer (10 year old "Kit" trailer from Harbor Freight tools) . The product was received within 3 business days of ordering. etrailer customer service was very helpful and ensured that I ordered the correct wiring setup and the product worked perfectly! Thanks

Outstanding quality product with terrific service. I was very satisfied with the whole process. This is a much better product than the cheap junk you find at a big box (if you can find it). I couldn't find anything in the stores with the ground wire built in. All were just four-wire connectors.

by:

Ground wire really needs to be longer; I ended up splicing it so it would reach the body of the trailer. I suppose you could mount it closer to the coupler but that would entail drilling a new hole which I didn't want to do.

But the specs told you 30 inch ground. How can you give a bad review because you cant read?????

Used this wiring harness to rewire my utility trailer. The harness is of great quality and durability and at a competitive price. Would definitely recommend to other buyers

by:

Just what I needed for my home-built bike carrier. My wife rides an e-tricycle and by the time I loaded the trike and a couple of bikes on this platform, you could not see the car's taillights or blinkers. This harness worked perfectly!

by:

It's a simple item but try to find it somewhere else as a stand alone product.
I've used etrailer before with great results and this was no exception. Let's be honest, if you've been to the site once, you're coming back!
I have a 5 x 12 utility trailer that has good lights but the wiring was a disaster. The harness connector had been patched and there were at least 5 splices throughout the lines. It was nice to lay out the new harness, make the light connections, tack everything up and out of harms way (there's an idea) and my lights work like new. I like the ground fastens under the jack bolt. Saves drilling a screw in (see the baby hole?) Good to feel safe on the road again. As easy and inexpensive as it was, I don't know why I waited so long.

by:

After trying to spice wires with other kits I found ETRAILER made a order got in just a couple days and had it wired hassle free this is a great product and I even order another one for my boat trailer and a easy plug kit for my jeep!! Will continue to use ETRAILER in the future!!

by:

Used this to rewire a 6 x 10 trailer. Inserted the wire through 3 feet of metal conduit to keep it from being damaged near the coupling. So now the only exposed wire is the ¼ inch right at the connector.

by:

Works good, seem to be of good quality.

by:

Just rewired a cargo trailer I bought that the lights were always going out. Found 20 butt connectors the guy used no wonder they worked off & on. Now with two new tail lights & new wiring with a straight connection everything works like it should. Everything I have bought from etrailer has been good quality & fast shipping.

Thanks

by:

Exactly what I was looking for. Only place I could find an exact match.

by:

Just best best way to wire up my trailer and others.

by:

Some men, when they arrive at sixty five or above, run out and buy a fancy red sports car. I bought an old trailer that looked good and sturdy. It was very inexpensive. It needed some welding and rewiring. Luckily I have a neighbor who is an excellent welder, and the wiring was easy to find on the web and easy to install. I have gotten great pleasure using my trailer. I even thought about painting it red, but then that would look ridiculous.

Very good. Product has held up nicely

by:

Fantastic !!!! Great product, exactly as detailed, exactly as pictured, easy ordering, and on time shipment / arrival. I have never wired a trailer before, but after watching the online video program and following the steps I was able to complete the project in a hour for a 14' boat trailer. Prior to ordering, I did a lot of price comparisons in my area and I could not beat etrailer pricing. Great product.

  • What Color Are the Brake Lights On A 4-Way Flat Plug Of Wishbone Wiring Harness?
The brake signal is run along with the blinker on separate wires. The passenger side is normally green and carries the right turn and brake light. The driver's side is normally yellow and carries the left turn signal and brake. The remaining functions are running/tail lights on the brown wire and the ground which is the white wire. I've attached an article to assist. A wishbone harness like # A20WB will give you two brown wires so you don't need to run a jump wire from one side of...

  • Adding 7-Way And 4-Flat To 2006 Didge 2500 5.9L Diesel
Hello Steve, thanks for getting in touch. Your best option here will be to replace the current 7-way plug. Assuming your 7-way is from the factory, you can swap it out with the Multi-Plug T-One Connector Assembly for 7-Way & 4 Pole Trailer Connector # 20135. This will plug in to the factory connector (pictured below) and provide you with both a 7-way and a 4 flat, allowing you access to both at once. As far as an extension for the boat trailer you can use a 4-flat harness like part #...

  • 4-Way Connector Needed to Replace 4-Way on Trailer with 6 Wires
Since you have six wires it sounds to me like you have a double ground and a left and a right side tail light wire. If this is the case you could use a wishbone harness like the 20 ft. Wishbone 4-Way Trailer Wiring Harness with 30" Ground Wire, # A20WB, as a replacement because it has the separate left and right side tail light wires. I recommend using a spare car battery to assist with testing the trailer wires for function. You will just need to ground the negative terminal of the battery...

  • Why Does 4-Pin Trailer Wiring Have 5 Wires
Your 4-pin/5-wire wiring harness is what is called a "wishbone" type which simply means that there are two separate running light wires, one brown and one pink. This allows a separate running light wire for each side of the trailer which saves you having to run a jumper wire from one side of the trailer to the other. We offer lots of wiring items just like this, such as # A35W42B, # A20WB and # A10-4225VP, which happen to use two brown wires instead of one brown and one pink. The functions...

The 20 Ft 4-Way Trailer Wiring Harness - Wishbone Style - 30" Ground # A20WB simply has two wires that connect to the running light pin of the 4-way. There isn't a 5 wire we carry in spools or by the foot, but we do carry the Bonded 4 Wire - per foot # 16-4B-1 and then you can add Primary Wire - 16-Gauge - White - per Foot # DW02359-1 for the additional running light wire. • Should Boat Trailer Lights Short Out When Backed Into Water
Water and electricity don't mix well. The best recommendation I can make for you would be to unplug your trailer wiring before you back your boat trailer down the ramp and then don't plug the lights back in until the trailer has dried out thoroughly. While the trailer lights themselves can be listed as waterproof or submergible the wiring of the trailer isn't always so that is why unplugging the trailer lights is recommended. If the assemblies were ever replaced water can easily get in...

  • Can Euro 7-Pin be Replaced by American 4-Way?
Sure, you can cut off the Euro 7-pin and add an American-style 4-way. I recommend using the Wishbone Wiring Harness # A20WB, which actually has five wires; it splits the running light wires so you do not have to run a jumper wire from tail light to tail light. You will need to do some splicing and you can use the accompanying diagram of a Euro 7-pin to see how they are typically wired. I recommend using butt connectors # DW05743-10 to connect the 20 gauge wires of the harness.

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Wiring Not Working With Blown Truck Trailer Wiring Fuses
Hey Christopher, so one of two thing is going on most likely. Since fuses are blowing on your trailer wiring circuits that indicates to me that you have a short to the trailer frame on the wiring for the lights. So what you'll need to do is go over the wiring of the trailer looking for any exposed wire and fix as needed. It's probably touching the trailer frame and over time has rubbed through the wire's insulation. The other less likely option is that the ground wire of the lights isn't...

Hi Don; for a replacement 4-way wiring harness I recommend the 20 Ft 4-Way Trailer Wiring Harness # A20WB. This is a wishbone harness so you can run wires down both sides for your marker lights. Regarding the longevity of the wiring, I don't have anything I can say will last more than 2 years for sure but such a short timeframe isn't typical. • Troubleshooting Brake Lights that Override Turn Signals of Trailer Wiring
The problem you are experiencing is due to fact that trailer wiring is designed to have the stop lights and turn signals on the same brighter circuit of the trailer wiring and only the running lights on the lower illumination. When wiring up a trailer wiring 4-way to a vehicle that has the circuits separated you have to also install a signal converter to allow the circuits to match the trailer wiring. For that you'd just need the # RM-732 wired before the 4-way of your tow vehicle.

  • Right Side Brake Lights and Turn Signal Do Not Work on the Trailer
It sounds like your problem may be limited to just one circuit - the wire that carries the right turn signal and brake light. If the connectors look fine, I would test the vehicle side trailer connector with a circuit tester, like part # PTW2993, to make sure the vehicle is sending power to the trailer (see video). I would test each pin as a helper...

  • Troubleshooting Reasons Why Boat Trailer Running Lights Are Not Working
There are many possible reasons why the running lights are not working on your boat trailer. First, I recommend checking the ground connections. Trailer lights usually ground through the mounting studs. They will need to be attached to a clean and corrosion free bare metal surface. If you recently added a plastic license plate cover, that could also be causing the problem. You will also want to make sure that the main ground from the trailer connector is attached to a clean and corrosion...

Legally a trailer only needs right and left turn signals, brake lights, and running lights. The license plate light will be tied into the running light circuit. On a trailer, the turn signals and brake lights are on the same circuit on each side. So the minimum you will need is 4-wire bonded wire such as # 16-4B-1 that you have referenced. For a trailer side 4-Way you can use # A20WB and you would not need the wire by itself. This is a 20 foot length and the running light circuit is split,...

  • Why Would Trailer Wiring have Two White and Brown Wires
It's not uncommon for trailer wiring to have more than one wire for the same circuit for the ground and running light circuit. For the running light circuit (brown wire) this is to allow you an easier way to run the circuit to either side of the trailer. For the ground circuit (white wire) it's to allow for making more ground circuit connections easier since all of the circuits have to be grounded. So if your trailer has two ground wires you could run them both together and then to the...
