Leaf springs, as you probably know, make up an important part of your trailer's suspension. Their main purpose is to absorb road shock as you travel, as well as allow your axle(s) to move independently of the rest of the trailer.
To mount this leaf spring, you'll need hangers welded onto your trailer frame - which you probably already have in place - as well as shackle straps and a suspension bolt. It's a good idea to replace your existing straps and bolt while you're under there working on things because they tend to wear out quickly. One thing that could help keep them from wearing out too fast would be upgrading to galvanized or zinc-plated hardware. Doing so will boost the corrosion resistance and, therefore, the longevity of your trailer.
We also always recommend replacing both of your springs at the same time because it's not unusual for leaf springs to sag and elongate over time. If you replace just the one, there's a good chance that it won't match your existing spring on the opposite side of your trailer, and that can mess up your alignment.

Hi everybody. Andy here with etrailer. Let's take a quick look at this 3-leaf double-I spring for your 3,500 pound trailer axle. Now this double-I leaf spring's gonna act as part of your trailer suspension system by providing an attachment point for your 3,500 pound trailer axle. This is made from sturdy steel and it is designed to flex and absorb road shock and give you a smooth ride reducing wear and tear on your trailer. And it's going to ensure a level ride on those bumpy and uneven surfaces.
Double-I leaf springs attached to hangers that are welded onto your trailer. One end of the spring will attach directly to the hangar with the suspension bolt, and the other end will attach to shackle straps that are suspended from a hangar. Those straps are going to allow the spring to move and pivot so that it can better compensate for uneven pavement. Now if you have a tandem or a triple axle trailer, the shackle straps will be attached to the equalizer that connects multiple springs. Now if you're in need of hangers, suspension bolts, or equalizers, you can find all that here at etrailer.com.
In the eyes on each end are pre-installed nylon bushings. The I diameter with the bushing is 9/16 of an inch. Without the bushing, it's 11/16 of an inch. Again, this is a 3-leaf spring, with a leaf thickness of 1/4 of an inch. This is rated individually at 1,750 pounds capacity.
So that means if you install a pair one on each side of your axle, you're covered for around 3,500 pounds of trailer weight support. Now to ensure proper axle alignment and suspension performance, leaf springs should always be replaced in pairs and we do recommend installation by a professional. Let me see if I can show you a measurement here, can be kind of tricky on camera, but measuring center of eye to center of eyes, I hope you can see, we're sitting pretty close to 23-1/4-inches. The spring width is 1-3/4-inches. So if you, you're gonna need this if you're replacing worn out springs on a light to medium-duty trailer.
Maybe your current suspension is sagging, noisy or uneven, or maybe you're restoring a small utility trailer, boat trailer or similar. If this meets the specs that you're looking for, this is gonna be a solid option for you to consider. If you happen to have any other questions, whether it's about this spring or anything else that we carry, don't hesitate to reach out. We do wanna be sure that you're getting exactly what you need. Well, again, my name's Andy, thanks for joining me.
