Could Motorcycle Fit Under Malone TopTier Load Bar Kit for Utility Trailers # MPG493

Updated 07/16/2026 | Published 07/13/2026

Question:

Looking at the Malone utility trailer overhead rack. But I need to ride my full-size motorcycle with 53 tall windshield underneath. Crouching down while driving up might present a safety issue. Is it difficult to remove the cross bars and reinstall? Is there any other rack system that might work?

Hey Robert, so the Malone TopTier Load Bar Kit for Utility Trailers # MPG493 will work for you I think but you would want to mount the uprights a little higher in the mounting brackets so that you have better clearance underneath for your motorcycle. The overall height of this is 54 inches so you would want to raise it up higher so that it gives you the extra clearance needed. Generally it's probably not super recommended to ride a motorcycle up onto a trailer but I can see why that would be what you'd want to do instead of pushing a heavy bike. What kind of motorcycle do you have?

Thanks for the reply. My trailer is a typical 5'X10' open utility trailer with a 4' ramp that is primarily used for general hauling and occasionally for the motorcycle. For solo loading it's probably safer for me and my 700+lb Yamaha V-Star 1300 to drive it up vs. pushing and chance losing control. I watched your installation video and thinking the Malone rack may not be the best solution vs. just paying more for a good truck bed rack. I do appreciate the reply.

@RobertG glad to help! As someone who has had sport bikes and dirt bikes I have stood next to my bike and fed clutch out slowly while I walked next to it to load it up on trailers BUT I realize a V Star is a totally different animal.
