I recently bought a truck tent that sets up over the open tailgate. I have a bump/step that became totally useless as it was covered by the tailgate. Then I came across the ST18 extension. Now after the tent is set up, I install the extension then the bump/step itself and your able to step up and into the tent with no problems, and it's also extremely stable!

This is exactly what I needed. Being a long time RV owner, I have purchased many items from E-trailer and have never had a bad experience. Great service, product exactly as described.

Ask the Experts about this Brophy Hitch Adapters

  • Can You Use a Brophy ST18 with Weight Distribution
Though you will want to double check the towing rating of your 1999 Ford F-350 diesel, the weight ratings you listed will work with the Brophy # ST18. That being said, this will allow for a little movement when installed, especially with a weight distribution system. Due to this, you will want to add a couple anti rattle devices, like the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch # RM-061. For what you will be doing, I would go with 2 of these. One for the hitch on the vehicle, and one for weight distribution...

  • Can I Use the Brophy Hitch Extender With Step on my 2017 Chevy Silverado While Towing
When using the Brophy Hitch Extender with Step - 2" Hitches - 18" Long - 6-1/2" x 17" Platform # ST18 it will reduce your hitch's capacity by 1/3, so if you've got a 1200-lbs max tongue weight capacity on your hitch it will only be 800-lbs/8000-lbs towing- when using this extender. This isn't an uncommon issue that's encountered, so you'll need to do some math on what you're towing and make sure that you wouldn't be over those numbers when doing so. This will be the case with any hitch...

  • Hitch Extender for 2014 Toyota Tundra Towing Trailer with Weight Distribution
The further you extend the connection point between the truck and trailer and the more adapters you use, the less your weight capacity will be. The Brophy Hitch Extender part # ST18 can be used with a weight distribution system but you will reduce your towing capacity by 1/3 or 7,000 lbs, whichever is lower. Therefore, if the trailer hitch on your tow vehicle is rated for 13,500 lbs or more then you can use the Brophy Hitch Extender. There are other adapters available but each manufacturer...

  • Hitch Extender Recommendation for 7000 lb Camper
An extender like the # ST18 does provide a handy way to provide additional space between the truck and the trailer. The only down side is that using this extender will decrease the towing and tongue weight capacity of your truck's hitch by 33%. This extender itself can handle 7000 lbs towing and 700 lb of tongue weight, but your maximum capacity will be limited by the component with the lowest capacity. Given that your hitch would need a huge towing capacity in order handle the trailer...

  • Recommended Hitch Extender for 5,000 lb Travel Trailer with 500 lb Tongue Weight
Some extensions are not safe to use for towing no matter the weight. I do have an option for you, but it does require a weight distribution system for your 5K travel trailer. I recommend the Brophy Hitch Extender with Step # ST18. With the proper weight distribution system, this extension is rated for up to 7,000 lbs and up to 700 lbs tongue weight. You will want to make sure your trailer hitch receiver is able to use weight distribution and the trailer and weight distribution system's...

  • Can Brophy Hitch Extender ST18 be Used to Add Distance Between Trailer Hitch and Trailer
Yes, the Brophy Hitch Extender # ST18 can be used as a way to extend out the distance between a trailer and the hitch it is installed in. With this extender you'd gain an additional 18 inches. Only thing you'll want to keep in mind is that when you use a hitch extender like this you cut the capacity of the hitch it is installed in by 50 percent. I attached a picture of this used as a hitch extender for you to check out as well.

  • Using Hitch Extender With Weight Distribution
Using an extender such as the Brophy # ST18 might be possible, but it will depend on the tongue weight capacity of the hitch on your truck. Using the extender will lower the hitch weight capacity by 1/3, so you'll want to find the ID label on the hitch which lists it weight distribution towing and tongue weight capacities. If 2/3 of the hitch towing and tongue weight capacity isn't less than the 360 lb tongue weight of the trailer, then using the extender would be okay. If the trailer's...

  • Recommended Hitch and Hitch Extension Compatible with 2011 Ford F-350 and 7K Trailer
If you have a 2-1/2 inch opening in your factory hitch receiver on your 2011 Ford F-350, then you can use the Reese Hitch Box Extension and Reducer for Titan 2-1/2" Trailer Hitches # RP45292 along with a weight distribution system for your 8,000 lb capacity. If you have a 2 inch factory trailer hitch receiver opening, then there is another option. If you are right at the 7,000 lb trailer weight or under it, you can use the Brophy Hitch Extender with Step - 2" Hitches - 18" Long -...

  • Extension So Trailer Can Clear In-Bed Camper in a 2012 Chevy Silverado 2500 Short Bed
Some hitch extenders are rating for use with weight distribution and some are not. But all of the ones for a 2 inch trailer hitch receiver reduce the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch by 50 percent. Even with a 2-1/2 inch hitch and extension there will be a capacity problem. More on that later. Brophy extender and step # ST18 is a little longer at 18 inches than what you are looking for (there isn't one that is exactly 15 inches) but it can be used with weight distribution....

  • Cargo Carrier and Bike Rack for a Truck With Truck Bed Camper
I have a solution for you, but unfortunately, there's not an exact item for what you are looking for. Prior to purchasing a hitch extender, I recommend measuring your clearance. You'll simply measure from the center of the hitch pin hole on your hitch to the furthest point in a straight line away from the hitch. Any extender you use will need to cover at least this distance to be useable. If you are at exactly 18 inches, then I recommend the Tow Ready Hitch Extender for 2 inch Hitches,...

  • How To Extend Trailer Hitch For 6,000lb Boat Trailer On 2020 Ram 3500 Dually With Bed Camper
A hitch extender, such as the Brophy Hitch Extender # ST18, will work with your 6,000lb boat trailer if used with a weight distribution hitch. This is because the # ST18 has a max towing capacity of 3,500lbs and tongue weight of 350lbs, but when used in combination with a weight distribution system, this extender can handle up to 7,000lbs and 700lb tongue weight. You can look through our weight distribution hitches and find one based on your tongue weight of your trailer (which is roughly...
