Drum brake assemblies provide superior protection from corrosion and let you reverse without actuating. Designed for use with hydraulic brake actuators that do not include reverse lockouts. Fits most 13", 14" and 15" wheels.

The unique free-backing design, patented by DICO, lets your trailer move in reverse without actuating the brakes. When you begin backing up, the brake shoes are firm against the drum, as in a braking situation. As you continue in reverse, however, the shoes turn with the drum until the lining pressure is released and you are able to back up freely.
These brakes are designed to eliminate friction between the shoes and drum when you are driving in reverse. A trailer breakaway kit will not be effective should your trailer disconnect from your tow vehicle when backing up.

Hi everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a real quick look at these Dexter galphorite free-backing hydraulic right and left trailer brake assemblies. Now these drum brake assemblies are gonna give you superior protection from corrosion and they're gonna let you reverse without actuating. These are designed for use with hydraulic brake actuators that do not include reverse lockouts. Now the free-backing design is gonna let you reverse without the trailer brakes being activated.
And these are specifically designed for use with surge-style trailer brake actuators. And the hydraulic pressure is going to be contained by the wheel cylinders that you see here. Now these do have an axle rating up to 3,750 pounds and these are gonna fit most 13-inch, 14-inch, and 15-inch wheels. And then let me go ahead and get my ruler here real quick, and give you the dimensions here. So looking at the width, we're measuring brake pad to brake pad, so lining that there, lining that up there at the widest point.
So I hope you can see we're at 10 inches. And then the width or the thickness rather, and that's gonna be the width of the pad, right at two and a quarter inches. And as I believe you already saw, this is going to be a four by four, four on four inch rather. Four on four inch mounting flange bolt pattern. The center hole is three inches.
And so the galphorite plating is gonna give you superior corrosion protection. The backing plate and the shoe levers are sealed with permanently bonded electric coat primer. Then a second coat of rugged acrylic is applied to the backing plate. So these assemblies are nearly rust roof. The wheel cylinders are treated with hot black oxide and the internal components are olive drab zinc plated, and the springs are stainless steel.
So this is gonna hold up really well against rust and corrosion and you're not gonna have to worry about them becoming corroded or rusty or anything like that because of all the care in placing the coating on these assemblies. So again, you're gonna get your left and your right hand assemblies. And I think that's gonna wrap up our quick look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thanks for joining me.
