Features to know about

Back Up Without Brake Interference: Built-In Electric Lockout

The built-in electric lockout makes backing up smooth and easy. When you shift into reverse, the solenoid automatically prevents the trailer brakes from engaging, so you can move up an incline or around tight corners without resistance. It wires right into a 5-pole flat, 6-way round, or 7-pole connector, so once installed, there’s nothing extra to think about—just reliable control every time you back up.

Reliable Stopping Power: Surge Operation for Disc Brakes

This bolt-on actuator uses hydraulic surge action to apply your trailer’s disc brakes when your tow vehicle slows down. As momentum pushes the trailer forward, the actuator contracts to pressurize the master cylinder and deliver consistent braking force. The design creates a straight-line telescoping action that keeps braking smooth even with heavy loads up to 14,000 lbs gross towing weight and 1,400 lbs maximum tongue weight.

Level Towing Setup: Adjustable 3-Position Channel

The adjustable channel gives you flexibility to match your coupler height and keep your trailer level. With 3 mounting positions and a 4" vertical range of adjustment, it’s easy to line everything up whether you’re using a standard ball coupler, lunette ring, or clevis attachment. The included 2-5/16" ball coupler has a trigger latch with a circle grip that makes hitching simple and secure.

Built to Last: Zinc-Plated Steel Construction

Durable steel construction and a rust-resistant zinc plating make this actuator ideal for harsh conditions. The coating protects against corrosion from water or road salt, while the sturdy body resists bending during tight turns or jackknife situations. A built-in shield also protects the solenoid valve from dirt and moisture, keeping the system working smoothly over time.

Extra Safety When Towing: Integrated Breakaway Kit

The integrated breakaway kit is designed to activate the brakes if your trailer ever disconnects from the tow vehicle. It’s a simple safety feature that helps prevent runaways and adds peace of mind when hauling heavy gear or equipment.

Video Transcript for Ultimate Overview of the Dexter Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout

Speaker 1: Today we're going to take a look at the Titan hydraulic disc brake actuator with the electric lockout, and a 14,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now this hydraulic actuator will activate your trailer brakes when your tow vehicle slows or stops. Basically when you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs, and the momentum will push your trailer towards the rear of your vehicle. So with surge brake systems, the actuator's triggered as your trailer moves forward once your tow vehicle starts to slow down. So, when this happens, this actuator will contract, goes to the inside of this part right here, applies the force to the master cylinder, and this in turn will supply the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage your trailer brakes. This one is a unique roller design. You can see there's two rollers here, two rollers down here.

This'll help reduce the resistance during the telescoping to create a straight line movement. If you notice on the rollers, they do have these grease zerk fittings that you're going to attach your grease pin to, makes for easy lubrication. This is a sturdy, durable steel construction, resists bending and any jack-knife situations. Now the electric reverse lockout, which is the cylinoid right back here, this'll let you back up without actuating your trailer brakes. The electric reveres lockout on this actuator is automatically activated when you shift your tow vehicle into reveres. The cylinoid will wire into your trailer connector, which connects to your tow vehicle. So, it can detect when you're in reverse.

So when your vehicle's in reverse, this cylinoid insures that the hydraulic actuator does not activate your trailer brakes. Thus allow you to back up your vehicle. You do need to remember you use this reverse lockout. You must have a 5-way flat, 6-way round, or 7-way trailer connector. Also, if you notice, they have a nice built in shield over it to protect the cylinoid from the elements and from any damage.Up front here, they have this adjustable channel.

Has three different mounting positions for the ball coupler. And it can also accept a lunette ring or clevis attachment coupler which we do sell separately. This one comes with the ball coupler. The ball coupler uses this trigger latch, which allows for safe and easy coupling and uncoupling. Has a nice circle grip here, makes the latch simple to use.

You just pull back on the trigger, it opens the ball socket, drop it on the ball socket, let it go, and it'll lock right into place. This has a nice corrosion resistant zinc plate finish to it. On top here, we're the chain is, you can see, this is the breakaway kit, it's all included. This is a bolt on installation. Application, this is for trailers with disc brakes. Gross towing weight capacity is 14,000 pounds. Tongue weight capacity is 1,400 pounds. The ball size that this coupler fits on is a 2-5/16 diameter. And this mounts to a three inch wide trailer tongue. And the vertical range of adjustment on the bracket right here, is four inches. But that should do it for the review on the Titan hydraulic disc brake actuator with the electric lockout, and a 14,000 pound gross towing capacity.

Awful no brake Lockout came with this i tem

by:

It's on the trailer. all hooked up. Looks great. Very well made.

by:

Brakes work great, had to get additional parts from the auto parts store to make the braked more serviceable in the future.

by:

Quicker than expected delivery. The phonw help was very knowledgable and did a great job of getting the right brake acuator for my needs. The local shop would have sold me the wrong one for more money. I'm very satisfied.

by:

Love the coupler, heavy, built well, nice unit. I only wish e-trailer would of notified me that it was on back order prior to taking my money. Ended up moving a vacation back about a month because of it.

by:

Great value but very difficult to bleed the brake lines

by:

Really nice, I was able to use all of the parts to re-build my actuator without having to cut or weld my trailer. Works great

by:

After looking for anew part for our boat trailer with no luck. They did all they could do to get it to us before Vacation. Came in just in time and good condition. Product worked well and Will call on you for our many needs. Thank you for making our vacation a safe and happy one.

by:

This total break overhaul was actually fun to do because i got everything from etrailer and I knew it was a perfect fit! One year and thousands of miles later I still love it. If your on the fence, take the plunge, you WILL be happy..

Trailer a 25ft 6500 lb boat up an down the East coast in salt water.

by:

Have not installed at time of writing, but is a perfect match to my old unit! Looking forward to install! Thanks trailer.

by:

I love etrailer everything was perfect

by:

I want you to know I am very happy with the actuator. I installed it and have used the boat several times since. The actuator is quality and the service from e-trailer is always excellent. I will continue to use your services as needed.

by:

Buying experience was great from ordering to receipt. Free shipping always makes, the ordering a better experience. Item was packaged very well and hitch was exactly as described. I will do business with etrailer again.

by:

This product has been great. I installed it about 1 1/2 years ago and it works well. The nice thing about is that it can be used on a range of ball sizes. The only thing is that I need to remember to tighten it up onto the ball (when I leave my home) and check it again before leaving the boat launch (just to make sure nobody loosened it while I was away fishing).

by:

Not a fan of the screw down coupling

by:

The coupler itself met expectations and is functioning perfectly. However, there are three things I would like to report that would make the installation easier. First, some written instructions would be helpful.
I started to replace the nut that goes to the backup actuator. I recall a review and looked at the video. No nut replacement, just screw in the actuator. The nut is just used for shipping. The product is excellent and my identical Titan lasted over 10 years of salt water use. Glad to see that the quality has not decreased. Will buy again from etrailer.

by:

Great customer service. I placed the order for a coupler with Bill, shortly I received a notice that the item would be delivered before 8 pm on Wednesday. At a little before 8pm on Wednesday evening the item was at our door.
I only replaced the old unit because the trailer had been in storage for over 10 years and the unit had dried out and the lines were a mess. We were taking the boat over 400 miles and I wanted to be on the safe side.

by:

This product is a champ when it comes to trailer brakes the reverse actuator automatically disengages the brakes so you won't have to manually . Easy to install looks good

by:

I replaced a twenty four year old coupler with the Titan T4750820.
My previous system had a separate coupler, hydraulic pack, and battery box. I could not keep up with the effects of salt water and time. It became a maintenance and safety nightmare.
The installation of a titan hydraulic coupler and a Tekonsha P3 brake controller has restored my confidence in my braking system.
The staff at etrailer.com was first class in answer all my questions and making sure I got the right gear the first time.

by:

The coupler itself met expectations and is functioning perfectly. However, there are three things I would like to report that would make the installation easier. First, some written instructions would be helpful. There was NO documentation that came with this major item. Next, I was unable to attach the solenoid cutoff for the coupler and determined the solenoid was a different thread size than the coupler's reservoir fitting. I spent extra time and two trips to the hardware store to correct this only to discover that the fitting on the reservoir needed to be removed AND REPLACED with the solenoid connection. The last item relates to the protective cover for the solenoid. A separate part is included that protects the solenoid and its fitting but nothing tells you that this needs to be installed in place of the shorter cover supplied on the coupler. One additional point is the lack of instructions to properly bleed the braking system. It is a little tricky on this item and knowing the correct process would have been helpful instead of relying on internet searches to find help.

by:

Trailer coupler was delivered on time. It bolted up to the trailer ok. However, a disc brake lock out solenoid is in a separate box contained in the shipping box. It threads into the surge brake fluid outlet ok, but the solenoid outlet thread and end shape is a mystery that sent me running around town to locate a fitting with the right thread and shape. Very frustrating that the kit did not have a fitting that would convert to something standard. Still searching after two days of searching. Makes this kit relatively worthless til you solve this problem.

by:

Not sure of actual product performance yet. But you guys really need to add a small instructional sheet. Wasted half an hour trying to figure out fittings before I finally figured out that since reverse solenoid was not attached it replaced the fitting already on the cylinder. Then after I had it together I saw that the longer shield that was included loose for the reverse lockout solenoid could NOT be put on without removing short shield which could not be removed without taking off the brake lines that I had just installed. Half sheet of paper with 2 or 3 sentences is all you would need to include.

by:

Order arrived on time and as described!

by:

Device is sturdy and put together well. My problem was when I unloaded it I could not for the life of me get the coupler to unlatch from my trailer hitch. Despite numerous attempts to get creative, I finally had to remove the hitch from my truck and drive off, and my trailer hitch is still attached to the coupler just hanging there. Disappointed.

  • Looking for Replacement Actuator/Coupler for 2007 Karavan Boat Trailer
Hey Eric, we don't have a way to look up what your trailer has actuator wise by the VIN as there just isn't a database for that like there is for cars. Do you know what brand of actuator you have? Is it drum or disc brakes? If you could email me back a picture that would be helpful as well. If you have disc brakes and need a higher weight capacity the Titan part # T4822820 that you referenced would be an excellent option.

  • Solution for Needing Replacement Master Cylinder for Atwood Brake Actuator
I REALLY wish we still had access to the master cylinder replacements for the Atwood actuators but since they are not longer around we can't get you the parts. Only solution is going to be a new actuator like the part # T4822820 for if you have disc brakes or part # T4836600 for if you have drum brakes. Both of these have 14k weight capacities.

Its sounds like you would like to replace the electric over hydraulic actuator you have on your 2005 Load Rite boat trailer in favor of a surge brake actuator. If this is the case then yes you can replace it and for that I recommend the Titan Brake Actuator part # T4822820. This actuator is an excellent option for your trailer.
