Bearing Buddy Installed Diagram

Bearing Buddy Operation

Replace your existing grease cap with a Bearing Buddy to ensure a safe, easy way to monitor and control the level of grease in your axle hub. To adjust the amount of grease in the hub, use a grease gun to add more through the zerk fitting. Adding grease moves the Bearing Buddy spring-loaded piston outward 1/8".

The O-ring inside the barrel of the Bearing Buddy maintains a seal from the outside. The interior of the Bearing Buddy is pressurized which prevents water from entering the barrel and diluting the grease.

An automatic pressure-relief feature is built into the Bearing Buddy. When the device is full, grease will seep around the edges of the piston and into the barrel. This prevents overfilling that can damage the inner seal.

You can manually check the grease level in your Bearing Buddy by pressing on the edge of the piston. If you can rock or move the piston, the hub is properly filled.

Many thanks for your recent email regarding the bearing buddies.Unfortunately I have yet to fit them, this is because I decided to fit them during the winter but have been extremely busy and because of the coronavirus pandemic we have been told that using the boat has only just been agreed with the local authorities.I have been involved with a family wedding which has taken ages. This is the fourth set I have used on different trailers and they have all worked splendidly and hove no doubts that these will be the same .many thanks for your support.

I have an old 9 ton tag trailer that these went on. So far they haven’t fallen off, lost any sealing capability, or caused any problems. They are worth spending the extra coin on by far. Thank you etrailer

Product Review: Only intimidating before you install. Really easy, pop out the OEM caps and replace with the bearing buddies, fill the buddies with your grease gun and you are done. Nice to know my (well greased by the factory ) wheel bearings now have a supply of grease under slight pressure to be sure there will always be grease in my bearings and foreign matter will be kept out.

Delivered right on time fast shipping great products!

The Bearing buddy’s fit my hub well, and give me added confidence when launching my light duty boat trailer. They were simple enough to pump grease into, although with my poor quality grease gun, I can’t tell if they got enough. The beauty is I can just keep pumping that grease in there periodically. The idea that the positive pressure they create helps keep water out of the hub assembly is reassuring, and they add to that cool, roadworthy aesthetic that red necks love.

Thanks for another great review, Clark! Glad the Bearing Buddies fit perfectly and give you that extra peace of mind when launching your boat. Keeping those bearings protected is always a plus, and the classic redneck-approved look is just a bonus! Happy boating!

Been using bearing buddy hub covers for over 20 years on multiple different units. Just better than the copycat versions. Have adapted them to pivot spindles on front mount deck mowers and use them on both on road trailers and off road trailers.
by:
I love them, but they will not work if you have hubs with grease fittings on the spindle. The BB piston will hit the fitting on the spindle. Then, My grease fittings were the driven-in type, so that ballooned the project.
by:
Great price, excellent quality, delivery was fast and installation was easy, the bearing buddies arrived today they are on the trailer and ready to go.
Thanks e trailer!

@Brian That's great to hear Brian! Glad the Bearing Buddies are working so well for you.
by:
Still never fit. Do I ground off the threads. Enough for it to fit. This is a strange axel. I took the brakes down to a trailer company and they never seen brakes like this before I got them to work and the bearing size never had any in stock so I used the old ones good enough to go snowmobiling this winter. Hope there’s snow not to far.
by:
All 3 products are working well. Before the new parts, the trailer blew a tire which bent up the fender and smashed a tail light. I ordered what I needed from eTrailer and put my trailer back together. Parts were all available and came quick. I didn't miss any fishing opportunities as a result.
by:
Bearing Buddies customer support is horrible, one of my new caps was defective the grease zerk came off, I contacted them and this is what they sent me, I guess I’m supposed to bring it to a mechanic and pay $$$ to have it fixed ! Garbage !
by:
Fit like a glove!! Installation was very easy and shipping was great
by:
Perfect for my trailer and will help seal out water and hopefully add life to my bearings. etrailer is and always will be my stop for great products and service!

  • Which Bearing Buddy Will Fit a 2 5/8 Hub Bore
The hub bore of 2 5/8, or 2.625, is kind of an odd size. It puts you in between the Bearing Buddy # BB2562SS, which fits a 2.562 inch hub bore, and the Bearing Buddy # BB2717SS, which fits a 2.717 inch hub bore. That being said. the # BB2562SS is not a common size and is used mostly for agricultural applications. The # BB2717SS is going to be your best bet, but may require a little sanding of either the part of the hub to get everything seated properly.

  • Recommended Brake Assemblies for Karavan Boat Trailer with 3500 lb Axle
For your brake assemblies, I recommend the Demco Hydraulic Brake Kit - Free Backing - Galvanized - 10" - Left/Right Hand Assemblies - 3.5K # 40716-15. These galvanized assemblies will work very well for saltwater or freshwater use, resisting corrosion. The free backing design allows you to back up without using the lockout on your coupler. This will absolutely fit your 3500 lb axle. For your Bearing Buddies, bearings, and seals, you very likely have the standard size 84 spindle but...

  • Bearing Buddy to Fit 2.5 inch Hub Bore of Lippert 5,200 lb Axle
Bearing Buddy does make a 2.52 inch option which is part # BB2562SS. These are a great option to make greasing the hubs easier, but you have to be careful not to pump too much grease in the hub as it can blow a seal pretty easily. In a majority of cases where we see someone blow a hub seal quickly after replacing it they used a Bearing Buddy to put too much grease in the hub.

  • Precision Digital Caliper to Measure Hub Bore to Select Correct Bearing Buddy Bearing Protector
Bearing Buddy protectors are made in lots of sizes, many of which are very close to one another in their diameter. It is really necessary to use a more precise measuring device on the hub's bore unless you know the part number of the one that was lost. You might check the remaining one for any identification. There are two sizes that are close to your 2-9/16-inch dimension, 2.562-inches and 2.717-inches. Bearing Buddy parts that fit hub bore diameter 2.562-inches are either part # BB2562SS...

  • Grease Cap Recommendation for an EZ Lube Spindle
You have EZ-lube spindles so a bearing buddy wouldn't be the right grease cap to use. Easy lube spindles are not compatible with Bearing Buddy Bearing Protectors. You could use the Bearing Buddy Bearing Protectors if you remove the zerk fitting. You really do not need Bearing Buddies though. To pick out the correct grease cap you would need to measure the inside diameter of the hub opening to determine which cap size is needed. You would want to choose a cap whose outside diameter matches...
