Grease Cap Recommendation for an EZ Lube Spindle

Question:
Hello, Just purchased a new used boat 388 Hustler. Boat is on a 42foot Manning Triple Axle trailer. One of the bearing caps came off last time towning it home. Measuring the outside of the hub it is approx 2.5inch so I purchased a set of buddy bearings 2.4X in size thinking it would have to be smaller to fit inside the 2.5 diameter but it just falls out, not snug...so I am assuminginch I need the next size up? Heres another question... There is a grease zerk behind where the buddy bearing would go...but I didnt see any nipple on the inside of the bearing that would allow the actual bearings to be greased....if I was to grease the buddy bearing it would only be greasing that cavity on the outside, not the actual bearing inner/outter or am I missing something? Thanks,

Helpful Expert Reply:
You have EZ-lube spindles so a bearing buddy wouldn't be the right grease cap to use. Easy lube spindles are not compatible with Bearing Buddy Bearing Protectors. You could use the Bearing Buddy Bearing Protectors if you remove the zerk fitting. You really do not need Bearing Buddies though.
To pick out the correct grease cap you would need to measure the inside diameter of the hub opening to determine which cap size is needed. You would want to choose a cap whose outside diameter matches the inside diameter of the hub.
Some of the most common sizes are 1.980 inch, 1.986 inch, 2.441 inch and 2.717 inch. As you can see the sizes can differ by very small amounts. To measure accurately you may want to get a dial caliper so that you can be confident you are getting the correct size for your hub. I have included a link to our grease cap main page for you.
