Features to know about

Get Confident Grip on Snowy Roads: Diamond Pattern and Square Links Keep You Moving

When snow piles up or ice slicks the road, these Konig tire chains give your tires a steady bite. The diamond pattern keeps more chain in contact with the surface, which means traction stays consistent as you drive. The square links dig into snow and light ice for a firm grip, while their smaller size makes the ride smoother and less bumpy than old-style ladder chains.

No More Stopping to Retighten: Self-Tensioning System Keeps a Perfect Fit

Once these chains are on, you can drive away without having to stop and recheck them. The self-tensioning system automatically tightens and centers the chains as you go, giving a snug, even fit right from the start. It’s a big help when you’re dealing with snow and cold because you only have to step out of your vehicle once to get them working right.

Handles Tight Wheel Wells with Ease: Class S Compatible Design

If your vehicle has limited clearance around the tires, these chains are built to fit where others can’t. They meet SAE Class S standards, needing only 3/8" of internal clearance. That low-profile design helps prevent rubbing and lets you stay legal in areas with chain laws even when space is tight.

Built to Last Through Harsh Winters: Manganese Nickel Alloy Steel Construction

Winter driving is tough on gear, so these chains are made from high-quality manganese nickel alloy steel for excellent strength and corrosion resistance. The powder-coated side chain and nylon bumpers help protect your wheels from scratches, and plastic-coated hooks keep your hands from freezing to cold metal during setup. You can count on them to hold up through years of snow season use.

Compact Storage for When You Need Them Fast: Durable Case and Kneeling Mat Included

Everything comes packed neatly in a sturdy storage case that keeps the chains organized and ready to go at a moment’s notice. The included kneeling mat adds a bit of comfort when you’re putting them on in the snow, making it that much easier to stay prepared for winter road trips or mountain drives.

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

GMC Sierra
I purchased these snow chains for a trip through the Sierra during heavy February snows (25"+ per night), from California to central Nevada and back. They are, in comparison to older styles of snow chains, easier to put on and take off. The tight Mini Cooper wheel well makes it a bit harder than it needs to be, but application and removal, in a blizzard, was fairly straightforward.

And that is the only nice thing I have to say about these, because they broke in four places (three on one chain, one on the other) in under 30 miles. At no time did I drive on bare pavement or exceed 30 mph, and they broke. The snow in the Sierra was so bad that it took 8.5 hours to get through Donner Pass, which is exactly when I did not need to hear snow chains break, thwack against my wheel well, and then have to use baling wire (sure am glad I'm a sheep shearer and had THAT in the car) to hold them together so I don't end up stranded in the mountains.

Somehow, after just a few miles, the first "break" was a bend in the first red hook to which you connect. It was bent to the extent of being unusable and, a critical connection, I had to use baling wire to enforce/replace that red hook. On both tires, chain links broke at different times, one of which got sucked into the wheel well and, fortunately, did not wrap itself around my axle. I was able to jack up the car, remove the wheel, and get the bit of chain out.

I could go on, but you get the idea. It is NOT what you need in the Sierra at night in a freezing blizzard, with no shoulder on the side of the road. Incredibly disappointed and relieved I could make these chains last long enough to get me below 2,000 feet elevation. The experience has, at least, solved a marital dispute: We'll be getting a 4WD vehicle.

These tire chains have done what I need them to do! I especially appreciate the self-tension system and highly recommend investing in that added feature. I drive a 2WD sedan in a mountain town, and I have a long driveway that can be especially challenging to navigate in the snow, but these chains get me up and down without difficulty.

First impression opening up the box was good. The chains come in a great carrying case. Then, open up the case. It's very intimidating, and you need to fan it out before installation, making sure the chains are not tangled. Definitely need some practice runs before the big day, so practice a few times, don't want to be out there in the snow flipping out on how these things go on. Once you get the hang of it, takes a few minutes, and your good to go. Didn't try in the snow yet, so let's see. Waiting for the white stuff.

Great fit for my tires which are odd sized. Shipment was fast and easy

Great product, goes on in 5 minutes, love not having to get out multiple times to tighten!

Works great. Takes some practice to put on. I wouldn’t use this at high speeds or for long distances.

I had called multiple places and searched Google trying to find chains for my tire size, but no one had results for the make, model, and year of my vehicle. Since I had purchased chains from etrailer years ago for my previous car, I decided to give them a call.

I spoke with Abbey, who was also confused as to why my tire size wasn’t showing any product matches. She placed me on a brief hold to consult with an expert, and it turned out they did have the right product. I purchased the chains and installed them for a fitting—and they worked perfectly!

Thank you, Abbey, for going the extra mile to find a solution and the right product for my needs. Great customer service!
by:
Very happy with how easy it is to install these. I really appreciated the installation videos showing the different tire sizes - we got the right size first try for both of my cars. These are the only chains I will order from now on. Highly recommend.
by:
Tunnel View at Yosemite. Chains worked perfectly, but not quite as easy to install as the video would suggest. I made the mistake of pulling over into 3-4 inches of snow to put them on. The snow packed around the base of the tire made it very difficult. That's not something you encounter when practicing in your nice warm garage. But once on, the chains stayed secure, and the car handled and braked with confidence.

That's a pretty awesome shot you took, John! Before I read your review I looked at your pic and I can see what you mean how it would be difficult to put the chains on with all the snow packed under there. I'm glad that you were able to get them on and enjoy the rest of the drive.

I needed chains for my FWD Volvo up in the Catskills, NY. I have a dirt driveway, the FWD Volvo from 2017 can’t handle an inch of snow/ice surprisingly for a Swedish car. I searched for high quality chains and ended up here. I asked Josh questions before purchasing, he was so helpful. The chains are magic, tricky to install the first time, but now I can install easily. They work so well. They store back in their plastic box easily to place in the trunk. Very pleased.

I was looking to have snow tire chains for my upcoming trip to northern Wisconsin. I found these to be very easy to install as the instructions were very clear. I like that they come with a case to make them easy to store in my Ford Escape.

These tire chains got me out of jam recently when I had gone down a 1 lane thanks to massive snow road and there was no place to turn around. I put on the chains and was able to do a multi-point turn to get back down the road with ease.

I think this is the fourth pair of these chains I have purchased for various vehicles. I have had great success with these over the years. No chains are "easy" to put on but these make it about as easy as it can be. Once you are familiar with the process it takes only a few minutes per tire. The self-tensioning is the best feature. The storage box even has a hook and loop pad on the back so it won't slide around in your carpeted trunk or back seat. I got these for my '25 F150 Lariat. Our vacation home is at the end of a one-mile lane that is steep, snow covered all winter and usually icy in places from the sun. Snow tires and chains are a necessity for us.

I love these chains, and etrailer is the best! As a 69 yr old retired grandma, I work part-time at a ski resort. A few weeks ago, we were expecting 8-10 inches of snow/ice and I was scheduled to work. So, I put these idiot-proof, color-coded, self-adjusting chains on my Highlander front low profile tires and waited for weather. See photo. I worked my full shift, came out to ice/snow in dark, and drove safely home. Oh, and the carrying case comes with a folded plastic sheet, but with my old knees I added a foam pad!

I have a 2019 Honda CRV and have never owned tire chains before so I dont have anything to compare these to but they are easy to put on and take off and they conquer a steep icy unpaved drive way in The Catskills perfectly. There are some plastic parts that probably should be metal. One of them - the tension hook - broke on one of my chains (see photo) and when I reported this to etrailer.com with a photo to prove it, they sent another set. So I am pleased overall with the service from etrailer.com but am only giving 4 stars for the product on account of the breakage. Also they rusted after one season but that hasn't impacted performance.

These are really easy to put on and take off. I have used them three times on my 2019 chevy colorado (4wd) to deal with high elevation mountain snow. After each use, I washed them, hung to dry and then put back in the truck. They are so awesome, I recommend them to others.

Well, I would say a little harder to put on correctly than advertised, but I called customer support and they helped me. Also watching all of the videos helped because each one was worded a little differently. Definitely would suggest one or two dry runs before you are in the elements. Important to realize to slide the plastic coated cable to the backside of the tire and center the chains after connecting the plastic coated cable and the small red hook. Once I figured this out I was able to almost perfectly center the chains (at least on one tire). On the other tire I couldn't get it perfectly centered (see photos). After about an 1/8 of a mile of very low speed driving it still didn't center but maybe with more driving at higher speeds it would. Also important to remember to have the yellow end of the chain on your right hand side beofore sliding behind the tire and making the first connection. One question I still have is how tight to pull the tension cable after you put it through the stop device. Every video seems a little bit different as to how tight you pull the cable by hand before connecting it to the tensioning device. As far as taking them off I tried four times to line up my car perfectly so I wouldn't have to drive over the chains after disconnecting them but this was not possible for me. So, with the plastic coated cable on top I just disconnected the connections in reverse and then put all the hooks and components off to the side and drove off/over the chains, which seemed to work fine. Will see how they work in the snow and ice but I'm hopeful they will do well.

2022 Honda Odyssey
I bought these for my 2022 Honda Odyssey for a trip to Colorado. We had to use them during a chain law enforcement through Wolf Creek Pass. They're easy to put on and take off and performance was spot on through snow pack and ice. Recommend getting familiar with them in clear conditions prior to use as its more difficult. I had no problems and would recommend for anyone, especially the novice.

Very impressed! On a cement floor you can have the chains installed and snugged in under 10 minutes. Also an excellent increase in traction for a RWD van. Definitely recommend the konig XG-12's. Haven't installed while travelling but I don't think it will be very difficult.

Outstanding service! With an upcoming trip and recent snow storm etrailer helped me get my snow chains just in time for our vacation. Without the chains I would have been screwed. Communication with this company is impressive. The original chains I ordered would not have arrived in time and the sales team called me right away to find alternative solutions. Chains for 315/35/20 size tires are not easy to find. Really happy with my purchase. Thank you.
by:
Previously my only experience with chains was using cable chains on front wheel drive cars, where turning the wheels was necessary to ensure they had a good fit.

I bought these chains for my 2023 Kia EV6 with stock 235/55/19 tires. The instruction manual for the car says to put chains on the rear wheels and I was worried that getting chains on the rear wheels would be difficult. Despite never having used this style of chains before I was easily able to test-fit both chains with 15 minutes, and the chains fit very snuggly and didn't move when I move the car a cars length. Getting the inner loop positioned right is something that took a couple tries to get right, and I'm sure there might be a bit more room for improvement :)

I was slightly concerned about the chains damaging the rims or other parts of the car, but with the included spacers (not applied in the picture) I think this won't be a problem.

I'm taking the car up to the snow this weekend and if I use the chains I'll provide an update.

etrailer did a great job clearly communicating to me when my chains would arrive with no fuss.

These chains are excellent quality and super easy to install. I watched the video and hold them out of the package line them up. Click them together. The tensioner works great. I rolled the truck back-and-forth. They are on and tight. It is well worth the money to have something high-quality that will work more than once.

Great Quality. Quick Installation and very easy to take off. Self-tensioning worked like a charm. I would definitely recommend them.

I bought these to use on my 2023 Rav4 TRD Off-Road OEM Falken AT Tires.

I highly recommend installing them at home a few times before heading up. Watching the etrailer videos on YouTube was also a huge help.

  • Tire Chain Recommendation for a 2011 Toyota Prius with 195/65R15 Tires
For some standard chains I really like the Konig Self-Tensioning, Low-Profile Snow Tire Chains # TH2004205080 for the 195/65R15 tires on your 2011 Toyota Prius. These are fairly easy to install and the self-tensioning feature means that these will sit snug on your tires. If you're looking for something a little fancier then check out the Konig Easy Fit CU9 # TH04115080 which are arguably the easiest chains to install on the market. • Tire Chains for a 2013 Mini Cooper with 195/55-16 Tires
The old tire chain paradox: owners manual says no chains but in some places the law requires chains. It is related to Reno's Law which states that if chains are required by law then of course the vehicle owners manual says not to use chains. It happens a lot and I know exactly the type of chains you need. The good news is that all of the cables and chains for a 2013 Mini Cooper with 195/55-16 tires are Class S compatible which means they require very little clearance. I have linked the...

Where it gets interesting is when manufacturers say you can't use chains on the vehicle but you are in an area that does require them.
