How to Attach the Blue Cable in Thule CG9 Tire Chains with Low Clearance Wheel Wells
Updated 12/21/2011 | Published 12/20/2011 >
Question:
With close tolerance wheel wells, how is the installer going to pull the first blue chain upward toward the top to hook up? Remember it could be dark, cold and slushy in there.

First of all, you will want to consult the vehicle owners manual to determine if chains can even be used. On many vehicles with limited clearance, the owners manual will say not to use them or to use specific chains.
On the CG9 chains and similar Thule chains, what you can do is fish the blue cable behind the tire (the cable comes apart to one straight piece) and then pull it up that way. I have included links to some videos on similar chains that will help explain it. I have also included links to a couple of tire chain FAQs for you.
