Running lights, a fridge, and an inverter, voltage can look fine until it drops fast. This monitor tracks state of charge, current, and remaining runtime in real time, with Bluetooth app access, so you can see usage and adjust before power runs out.
Checking battery voltage by itself can leave you guessing when a system is under load or when you're trying to figure out real runtime. This monitor tracks battery voltage, current, power, ampere-hours consumed, state of charge, and remaining runtime estimation based on the current rate of discharge, so you're looking at actual battery use instead of a rough voltage snapshot. With those numbers in front of you, you can see when capacity is dropping, plan the next recharge, and cut back before the system shuts down unexpectedly.
Battery problems are harder to sort out when all you've got is a basic panel reading and no record of what changed. Built-in Bluetooth ties into app-based monitoring, with smartphone access for configuring settings, monitoring live data, viewing history, and updating software. You can watch current flow as loads turn on, check how the battery has been behaving over time, and adjust settings from the app instead of trying to piece it together from a single momentary reading.
Knowing the battery is getting low doesn't do much if nothing in the system reacts when it happens. This unit includes programmable visual and audible alarms plus a programmable relay for switching non-critical loads or running a generator, and the bi-stable alarm relay design prevents increased current draw during alarms. When the battery reaches the limits you've set, the monitor can flag the issue and send a control signal without adding extra drain during the alarm event.
Basic monitors start to fall short once the system goes beyond a single simple battery readout. This unit adds midpoint voltage monitoring for series connected battery banks, an additional input for second battery voltage, temperature, or midpoint voltage measurement, a VE.Direct communication port for wired data connection, and shunt selection capability up to 10,000 amps. You can keep tabs on more of the system from one monitor, which gives you a clearer picture when you're tracking larger current loads or watching how a multi-battery setup is behaving.

Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer. Let's take a quick look at this Victron BMV-712 Smart Battery Monitor. So instead of guessing how much battery power you have left, this monitor is going to be able to tell you exactly what's going on. This is going to track your battery voltage, current flow, amp hours used, state of charge and percentage, and even how much runtime you have left based on your current usage. This does this using a precision 500-amp shunt, which is going to measure everything going in and out of the battery.
Now, one of the biggest selling points of this system is going to be that it has built-in Bluetooth, so you're gonna be able to see all the information on your phone or tablet using Victron's VictronConnect app, which is gonna be a free download for you from your smartphone app store. So you don't need a separate display if you don't want one, but it does include this clean round panel mount display if you prefer to see the data at a glance. This monitor is commonly used in RV, marine, off-grid, solar, overland, and backup power systems where knowing your true battery state is going to matter to you. This is especially useful with lithium batteries, where voltage alone isn't a reliable indicator of remaining capacity. As you can see, this display does come with this matching trim piece as well.
So in the box, you're going to get exactly what you see here. You're going to get the BMV-712 display, the 500 amp shunt, all of the necessary cabling here, along with instructions to guide you through the installation and operation. But if you happen to have any other questions, whether it's about this battery monitor system or anything else that we have here at etrailer, don't hesitate to reach out, because ultimately we wanna make sure that you're getting exactly what you need. Well, again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.
