Speaker 1: Today, on our 2018 Mazda CX5, we're going to be doing a test on the Yakima Core Bar Roof Rack system. We'll be using part numbers Y00421 for the 50 inch long, Seal Core Bars. Part number Y00146 for the Yakima Baseline Towers. Part number Y06130 for the Yakima Base Clip Fit Kit, and part number Y06154 for the other Base Clip Fit Kit.This Yakima Roof Rack System is going to allow you to carry roof mounted accessories on your Mazda CX5. Things like bike racks, kayak carriers, cargo boxes, and much more. It's going to work with your standard clamp-on accessories.
However, it will not accept your T-Track accessories, because its solid. The Core Bars are supported by four Yakima Baseline Towers. They're padded so they won't harm or scratch our CX5's roof. The Fit Kit is also padded so it does not harm or scratch the inside of our door. Now, one great feature is, the Baseline Towers feature a cover, so it hides our hardware. That way, it's going to deter anyone from removing it from our CX5.
Now, if you like to, the covers have a plastic core that you can knock out so you can add the Yakima SKS Locking Cores.Next, we're going to give you a couple measurements. This is going to give you an idea of how high your Roof Rack actually sits above the vehicle. From the top of the roof to the under side of the bar is about three inches. From the top roof to the top of the bar is about four inches. Now, when we go over features, I'll go ahead and show you how to get it set up. Now, I've already got my front cross bar in position.
Per our instructions, we need to take a measurement on each side from the corner of our windshield up to the beginning portion of our Baseline Towers. Once we've got that set, we have our position for our front Cross Bar. Our rear Cross bar installs very similar. Let's go ahead and do that together.I've got one side already completed. Let's do the other side.
We'll first start off by taking our Baseline Tower, we want to take this plastic piece here, and fit it in the center. Now, we'll line it up and push it into place and it should snap right in. Just like that. Then we'll take our Core Bar Fit. We're going to line that up with the bolt in the center. We're going to hold it place and we're going to turn it over, and we're going to be turning our attention to this opening here. As you can see, it's not open, so we want to open this door here. And, that's going to make it visible.Let's go ahead and start tightening this up. We don't want to tighten it down all the way. We just want to loosely install. That way, we can slide it on to the bar. Since we're here. Let's go ahead and take our pad and put it in place. We want to be sure that the notched out portion is facing away, like you see here. There's also a little arrow, we want to make sure that's facing away. Once you've got it snapped in, we can slide it on to our Core Bar.Now, it's very simple. Simply line it up, and slide it in place. And, while we're here, let's go ahead and place on our end cap. Then, we can turn it over.We need to make sure we have the correct distance between the two. You can find that in your instructions. Once we've got it set, we can take our included tool and tighten up this bolt here. Now also, per our instructions, we need to make sure that we've got it set in the middle of these three settings. Go ahead and tighten it up, and our included tool is going to tell us when we've got it properly torqued by listening for three clicks. Now we've got this front setting we need to have. It's going to be our tow position. Our other one is our pitch. You can see how it moves like so. It too, needs to be set in the center. And, go ahead and get three clicks out of our tool there. Then, we're ready to set it in place, on top of our Mazda CX5.Now, you want to be sure your doors are opened up. We can set it in place in the general area. Now, you want to be sure that the round portion of the bar is facing forward as you see here. Then, we need to take a measure, which is found in our instructions. We need to be sure and measure from the front of the Cross Bar, to the front of the other Cross Bar.We need to do that for both sides. Now, another thing that we need to be sure of is that our pad is sitting on this flat portion of our CX5 on both sides. We can see here that we are set up perfectly. Now, we can take our hook, we'll open up our door, and we need to be sure we have the correct hook. The front Cross Bar's hooks are different from the rears. Once you've ensured we got the correct one, we want to slide it into this gap underneath, and our bolt on the inside here, is going to catch it so it can't come back out. With it in position, take our included tool, and we're going to come up to this bolt here and start tightening it down. As you can see, it's going to turn the angle of our hook, which is what we want, until it makes contact with our CX5. From there, we then want to make sure that it makes contact underneath so we can then tighten down this bolt here. Let's go ahead and set that up for both sides. With both sides making contact, we can begin tightening it down. It's a good idea to alternate sides. Once you've got it mostly tightened down, you want to use your included tool and listen for those three clicks. After that, you can close up the door. You also want to be sure that the top door is closed up, and then we can put on our cover. Our cover fits in a certain way. We've got these open hinges at the bottom. Those fit here. Roll up, and then snap into position. And, that's going to complete our test fit of the Yakima Core Bar Roof Rack system on our 2018 Mazda CX5.

Extremely quiet, aerodynamic crossbars attach to Yakima towers to create a stylish roof rack for your vehicle. Rubber strips in T-slots push down to load carriers or accessories - no need to trim. Full-length aluminum bars maximize carrying capacity.Excellent solution for my 2023 Chevy Silverado. In the past, I have had rails installed on the roof of my pickup trucks, but I find the BaseLine towers to be a better solution, since they don't permanently change the truck. Plus, they are much more solid than SkyLine system on the rails.
Follow the instructions, and you can't go wrong on the self installation
Yakima Baseline with Yakima CBX 18 Cargo Box fitted on my 2012 Toyota Corolla S Sedan 2012.
Instructions were clear and roof rack was easily installed.
Really easy to install & work as specified. So happy with the customer support/service at etrailer.
Love my Yakima roof rack!! It exceeds my expectations.great product. Also thank etrailer for the tec support! great staff always there to help thanks again!!
You guys provide great products and excellent customer service.
Thanks
Ackage came 2 days early the install was somewhat easy (did it by myself)
Did not get to mount anything to it but seems really sturdy. One thing I can say is mark out your mounting points with provided stickers then put up and make adjustments to the roof rack.
The 50” jetstream cross bars were perfect for my 2019 Ford Ranger with my ARE cap. They are paired with the Yakima Skyline towers and appropriate landing pads (protip: call etrailer when you order to ensure you have the correct setup;)
These cross bars are SILENT on my cap. Zero wind noise. My daughter and I installed them on a Friday (I do recommend watching etrailer’s installation video in addition to the paper instructions) and left for a 700 mile weekend road trip the next day to pick up a kayak, paddle with friends downstate then drop her off at summer camp.
Even with empty Yakima Jaylows on top, no wind noise. Even with a boat in the Jaylows, no wind noise.
These are the sweetest rack’s I’ve had. With the Skyline towers and landing pads, they are also easy to take off and put on. Click click done.
They look good, too;)
etrailer customer service for the win, too. When I originally ordered, I did not order all the items I needed for installation. When I realized this, I called and they got me squared away.
Solid build quality and easy installation on my '21 Mazda CX-5.
So far so good. Purchased these towers to use on a 2022 GMC Canyon with HD bars that I already had, primarily to carry my canoe. Yakima's fitting instructions worked perfectly and the whole system seems really solid.
Well packaged and on time
Your notice of schemes was a lot better than the yakima site provided. They did not suggest the scheme you did.
But when the products arrived, the instructions were by yakima. Generally worked as instructed except the tower to tower transverse mounting dimensions needed to be tweaked for a perfect fit.
Great product - very good quality. I liked the fact that I could keep the risers mounted on my car, but could remove the cross bars. It took me awhile to install - but I'm not very mechanically inclined.
etrailer installation videos were very helpful in selecting the product and first installation, although in practice, minor adjustments to method were required. Now after more than a dozen set ups, mounting the crossbars takes 15 minutes, and taking them off, 10. The system is well made, and when mounted, precise, strong, and reliable. Expensive perhaps compared to alternatives, but well worth the money. Used to carry a 50# sailboard 40 miles to the beach on weekends. ('11 Honda Fit)
One minor shortcoming: rubber sheet glued to base clips where they touch the car body have torn and moved sideways 1/16", but expect will be easily replaced with readily available 1/16" sheet rubber (e.g., shower pan liner) when the time comes.
Used in rain at least once, (sustained 60mph), with no leaks.
I have not bought car roof racks for decades--back when there were those very useful rain gutters. So I was shocked with the high prices. But what you get today is much more carefully engineered with a complicated construction. This Yakima version even comes with a manual 3.5 mm hex driver which turns out to be a torque wrench too. You use it 16 times, torquing to its limit, in installing the two cross rails on the four towers. Years ago you installed the towers where you wanted them on the rain gutters and adjusted the cross rails by sight. No more. You must go on line to Yakima. You must get the precisely engineered dimensions for your exact vehicle. You even adjust the towers for the roof slope and any toe-in of the roof line. Pay attention to the precise instructions. The result is very solid. I wish that I had more space between the cross rails. There is room for another 6 or 8 inches given where the door openings on my 2019 Toyota Highlander are spaced. But then the rear base clips would be different and that logistics would add yet more to the price. I am confident that I can secure a 4 X 8 sheet of plywood on the cross rails. And I will find my vehicle in the mall parking lot easier with those good looking rails. While I am happy with the end product, I wish the vendors had given more explanation of the fixed dimensions of today's installations. That would have helped make my on-line shopping less frustrating. Part of the problem is that Yakima and Thule do not provide cross rails for my LE Highlander's existing tower bases. And I could not get 60 inch cross rails on any of the versions that fit my LE's bases.
I want to thank the staff at eTrailer for their outstanding support. After my roof rack order got off to a shaky start the customer service staff stepped in and made it right; 100% RIGHT. I cannot thank them, and eTrailer, enough. Regarding the roof rack itself, I have now installed it and can vouch that the installation was a breeze. All parts fit and the instructions were correct. For the record, this is not my first purchase from eTrailer (I've bought hitch items from them before) and it won't be my last. They have ALWAYS given great service, their web site works, their products and descriptions are good, etc., etc. Thank you!
I needed crossbars for my new 2018 Mazda CX5, which came with flush side rails. The Yakima crossbars, along with the RidgeLine Towers and the the vehicle specific kit worked great. The installation (10-15 min) is super easy. They look cool, and performed great (I strapped 160-lbs rooftop tent on them!). Removing them is also super easy (10 min tops). Highly recommend.
Great product fast shipping
Great! Easy to install!
Because of the 'rona-induced supply chain interruptions, I was unable to purchase all of my Yakima components from etrailer, but I did get these, and they are typically excellent Yakima components. Well-made, easy to install, good directions, no problems.
I chose the Yakima roof rack, because It spanned 50 inches, rather than the leading competitor's 47 inches, making it better for tying down 4 ft x 8 ft sheets of building material. It also seemed to be about half the price. It took me about 2 hours to put it all together and mount it on my car. The instructions were all visual and there was one little pic I didn't understand, but the equipment seemed to go together correctly anyway. Now that it's adjusted, it should be fairly easy to remove and replace next time. I did need to put on super tacky gloves to get the covers off. Although it seemed unnecessarily complicated, I would still choose this product again.
Yakima Jetstream cross bars.. nice bars worth the extra money. can be adjusted for pitch/angle of attack to "tune" the air profile.. mine have absolutely no high speed wind noise or whistling.. rubber weather strip underneath further smoothes the bar profile.. quietest roof rack system I have ever owned..
Arrived as part of a set of components for a roof rack and kayak carrier. I liked that etrailer had a guide to get the right components to fit my car's make and model year. This baseclip set arrived quickly, but the set for the rear of the car that arrived with them were obviously returns that had not been inspected. That set was missing parts, requiring follow-up calls to arrange for a new replacement for the incomplete set, and about a week's delay in getting the rack up on the car.
I purchased the Baseline towers with base clip fit kit and jetstream crossbars. They were great quality and the instruction materials included for assembly and installation were great. I was able to assemble and install on my Lexus CT 200 in about an hour. It looks nice too!
Yakima clips provided a perfect fit for my
car. The roof rack is now solidly attached.
Also impressive was etrailer great
customer service
