How to Properly Measure for Cut-Out Dimension
There are two main dimensions you need to know when choosing a replacement access door or adding a new one to your RV:
The cut-out diameter is the width of the circle needed to ensure the access door mounts flush to the wall of your RV.
The mounting depth is the depth needed behind the mounting surface for the access door's hatch to properly fit.

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Valterra Electric Cable Hatch for RVs. This is for use with RV electrical cables up to 30 amps. It does come with the installation putty tape and the necessary mounting screws to get the unit fully installed. It's going to have your main hatch door right here that swings open for easy access, and then that does snap shut, so it's got a nice secure closure. Then it has the sliding door that allows the cable to pass through when the main hatch is closed. That's also going to be helpful in keeping unwanted items out of the stored area when the cable isn't being used. The overall dimensions of the unit: Overall diameter's going to be about 4 1/4 of an inch, overall depth from very back to very front is going to be pretty close to 2 3/8 of an inch.
It does require a cut-out for installation. That cut-out's going to need a diameter of about 2 7/8 of an inch. This hatch is going to be white in color. Your mount hole separation, it's got 3 mounting holes. Those are all going to be separated on center by 3 3/16 of an inch.
It's going to be center on center apart from one another. This area right here is going to give us a diameter measurement of about 3/4 of an inch. The main opening area is going to give us a diameter of about 2 5/8 of an inch with an internal depth measurement of pretty close to 2 inches.
