How to Properly Measure for Cut-Out Dimension
There are two main dimensions you need to know when choosing a replacement access door or adding a new one to your RV:
The cut-out diameter is the width of the circle needed to ensure the access door mounts flush to the wall of your RV.
The mounting depth is the depth needed behind the mounting surface for the access door's hatch to properly fit.

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Valterra Electric Cable Hatch for RVs. This is for use with RV electrical cables up to 30 amps. It does come with the installation putty tape and necessary hardware. You'll notice that the screw heads are painted to match the color of the hatch. The hatch door is able to swing open, so we have this small door right here. That swings out of the way. That's going to allow your cable to pass through with the main hatch door closed.
That's the nice rotating door. Then you can see here that this one swings open as well to expose the larger hole. That's also going to help keep unwanted items out of the stored area when the cable is not being used. Taking a look at the overall dimensions, starting with the width, the widest point we're looking at about 4". Measuring the height we're looking at about 4-1/4. The overall depth from the very front of the unit to the very back is going to be about 2-1/8".
This does require a cutout at the mounting location. That cutout needs to have a diameter of around 3". Then that area is going to give us a depth of pretty close to 1-13/16", maybe 1-7/8, right in that area. The unit is made from a durable black plastic construction. You can see that it has 3 mount holes. These mount holes down here are separated on center by 3".
Then the diagonal measurement between the top and the bottom holes, that's going to measure on center about 3-3/8". If we swing this door out of the way, this small hole right here is going to have a diameter of around 3/4". The large hole has a diameter of around 2-5/8 and a depth of about 1-7/8". That's going to do it for today's look at the Valterra Electric Cable Hatch for RVs.
