What Kind of Clearance do I Need from the Dometic RV Water Heater and Any Walls?

Updated 10/30/2025 | Published 02/18/2025

Question:

I’d like to install this water heater in a tear camper I’m building. Do you know if I need clearance between the tank and any walls? Thank you

Hello Jerry,

Wow, building your own tear drop camper, very cool! What we go off of is the cut out dimension which would be the overall space you will need to install it, the cutout dimension for the Dometic RV Water Heater # DMC39RR is: 12-3/4" tall x 12-3/4" wide x 19-7/8" deep. Don't forget to grab a door too, for white: # DMC84FR, for black: # DMC24FR.

Did you already start building, or getting the plans together to get it started? Please make sure to send us some pictures when you have it completed. I am always fascinated by the cool things our customers make. If you have any other questions along the way, you know where to find us.

Hey Jerry, how did the fit of the Dometic water heater work out in your teardrop camper build? It’d be great to hear if the cutout dimensions gave you enough clearance around the tank. Your update could make it easier for the next person planning a similar setup.
