Video Transcript for Review of SmartPlug RV Power Inlets - RV TV/Internet Inlet - SM98FR

Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a quick look at this smart plug RV TV internet inlet. This data port is going to allow you to connect to the outside world while you're camping in your RV or spending time in your boat. This does have the ethernet port that's gonna give you a reliable, hardwired internet connection for working on the road, as well as that cable jack that's gonna provide cable, internet, television or satellite when you're hooked up. And this does have the signature smart plug design so it is going to compliment your smart plug set up. Will look just like your other mounts that you have on your vehicle or your boat.

This does have the same integrated seal that's going to keep the elements out when you have that closed. So you're not gonna have to worry about water getting up in there causing issues. It's got the same UV and heat resistant plastic construction with the external metals being a marine grade 316 stainless steel. So it is gonna hold up really well for you. Very easy to get this installed.

You've got the silicone gasket here on the backside that's gonna sit flush against your RV. You're not gonna need any caulk just pull off that backing there, and it's got that 3M tape that you can put in place. And then once you get this tightened down it's gonna create that nice seal there. So you're not gonna have to worry about water getting back behind there causing issues. You should be able to reuse the same hardware from your original TV or internet inlet.

Should be the same mounting points. You can reuse that hardware or use number 10 size screws to mount this in place. So very easy to get put in place but they don't include those screws because you should be able to reuse the originals. This is made here in the USA so you can trust it's made to the high quality standards we've come to know and trust for products that are made here in the US. And so really nice way to compliment your other smart plug systems, give you that security of knowing that it's gonna have a nice secure closure to keep all that the elements out and whatnot, and then provide that internet and ethernet connection for you.

So that completes our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching..

This lined up perfectly with the existing holes on my Airstream! Took all of about 1/2 to remove the old one feed the cables and get my starlink connected and online!

by:

This was a relatively easy install. I had to make a 5/8 hole in the inner skin of the Airstream to get the cat cable through, but that wasn't hard.

Now I hook up my Starlink with running a cable through the main cabin door. Slick! Love it

A good idea, but has a couple issues. The ports are too close together, and make it difficult at times to put one in, while there is a plug occupying the other port. The "coated" screws that came with the connector have already started to discolor. Overall, it is a good, heavy duty product and works as described.

Great product, easy installation. Put it my camp trailer.

The smart plug is working great. I had to do a small modification to make it fit but was easy to do.

by:

This is a very expensive piece but a great way to get an ethernet port cleanly added to your trailer. I simply replaced the existing port that had two coax connectors and installation was a breeze using my existing screws. The silicon gasket compresses nicely and looks watertight. My complaint about this product is the ethernet coupler. The coupler is plastic; it is not a shielded metal coupler. So if you are using shielded ethernet cable you are going to have to jury-rig a solution to maintain the continuity of the shielding. When I terminated my cable on the interior side, I made sure to have an extra long length of the drain wire. I threaded that through the plastic coupler to the exterior so that it would make contact with a shielded connector that was attached to the exterior of the port. It is annoying that on a part this expensive the manufacturer decided to save fifty cents by using an unshielded coupler.

The SmartPlug coax/Ethernet connector has allowed me to set up a Starlink dish outside my travel trailer with a clean, easy-to-use connection to the router inside my rig.

by:

Excellent for bringing StarLink v2 into our trailer

by:

Well made. Too bad they don’t make the fitting for a starlink for this plug. The conversion may be too difficult but that would be with the cable itself and not the plug.

by:

Easy to install and hook up. I didn't have a way to run Starlink into my trailer, since it uses a proprietary cable and would require a large hole to fit it. With this plug, I can keep my Starlink modem and all the cables in a weatherproof box under my trailer.

I was concerned that the ethernet pass-through was below 1 gigabit, while my trailer's network is running 2.5 gigabits. I contacted the manufacturer and they confirmed that it supports 2.5 gigabit transfer rates.

by:

Awesome product! Great company to work with. I gave it 4 stars because they only issue i see is when you plug your cables in, the cover doesn't close all the way becuase it would pinch the cables, it would be great if there was a cable pass-through on the bottom so you could close the cover and have the cables still come through. Just a notch with a rubber gasket. Food for thought.

by:

Good for job. Expensive, but well made.

Excellent in fit, form, and function. Utilized this to update my classic Beaver Coach to have internet installed. Just had to run a Cat 5 or Cat 6 Cable from the back of this, to a new wall port in the master suite, then I installed the router, etc after. Now I can hook up to internet at the parks, or my home easily.

Used for an outdoor Ethernet port on my garage deck. Works and looks great. And it’s water tight.
