Why Is Stainless Steel SmartPlug Inlet Listed for Marine Use and Plastic Housing Models Are Not

Hi Mike; the SmartPlug RV and Marine Power Inlet and Connector # SM67FR uses a 316 cast stainless steel housing, which offers maximum corrosion resistance. That’s the main reason it’s listed as a marine product. It can be used on an RV as well, but SmartPlug designed it with harsh marine environments in mind where constant exposure to moisture and salt air is a bigger concern.

The plastic-housing version # SM77FR can also be used on both RVs and boats and is UV resistant. Realistically, the “marine” label is more related to materials and marketing. Stainless tends to appeal more to boat owners, while the plastic housing is often the choice for RV applications.

Are you adding a SmartPlug to your trailer or something else?

Hey Mike, did you end up adding the SmartPlug to your trailer or another setup? Knowing how it worked out could help others deciding between the stainless and plastic versions. Your experience might point them toward the best fit for their use.

@RobinH the plastic version and SS outlets have completely different profiles for plug portion, plastic version needs more pressure and wiggle to get clips too attach, ss version just slides on and clicks into place
