RV and boat owners have long relied on Twist Lock style connections for powering their rides. For years, it has been the best option for connecting to shore power. It's been reliable, but most know it's not without disadvantages:

Locking arms grab the inlet, a clamp inside the plug body holds the cord, the inlet cap snaps to the top while in use, and the integrated seals weatherproof the connection. This helps prevent the wiggly, dirty connections that increase electrical resistance, which creates potentially dangerous heat.
Since it uses a square plug face, SmartPlug is able to use flat pins which create far more surface contact, further reducing the risk of high heat and electrical arcing. The square shape and flat pins also make it easy to plug in - no more twisting or guessing if the pins are lined up correctly.

Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at the SmartPlug 50 amp replacement RV power inlet and connector. Now, this kit will let you upgrade your existing shore power inlet and connector using the easy to install SmartPlug system. The replacement inlet and the connector will let you plug in your RV or marine power cord to hook up to shore power. It is a 50 amp female connector plug that'll plug into this male inlet.
Now, the connector plugs in without twisting and it'll lock in place with these side clips. Let me just zoom in here so you can see a little better. But here's the, you can see as I press in on the side twist, that'll wanna lock this into place. Basically, it's a multi-point locking systems. Ensures a nice solid connection.
So, when you push the plug straight into the inlet which is like that, when you push it far enough, those side levers will click and lock into place. And then to remove it, you just push in on them to remove it. And also, what's nice is when you do install this, actually your cord will be attached to this and this cord set will be already on there. And what's nice about that is once you plug it in, this cap will also snap down once it's plugged in. And that cap will actually hold that cord set in to secure the plug, keep it from wiggling out.
Now, this plug, these does use straight inlet pins to maximize electrical transfer. Has 20 times more contact than the curved design. If you notice it has a sleeve design. Has this large sleeve over it. Helps keep the weight and the tension off of the pins themselves.
So basically, the body of the plug will bear the weight and keeps the point of, points of electrical contact secure. And again, this is a nice push straight-in connection. Makes plugging in very easy even when if it's dark out. They do use nice triple weatherproof seals right here and right here on the cap. This will prevent water corrosion, overheating. And this connector does wire to your existing power cord, uses, using these included parts right here. Has a 50 amp 125 volt cord seal with an install tool. It helps the cord go in there. And it also has a 50 amp 250 volt cord seal that again, this connect, conical install tool will help the wire go through here. And once your wire goes through there, it would install right in there just like that. Now, on the inlet itself, these inlet mounting flange holes you can see right here, they do match the same size as the twist-type holes for easy installation. The gray cap right up here you can see, when you do close it when it's not connected, forms a nice weatherproof seal on the inlet when it's not in use. You can see a nice seal there. And it does include this silicone mounting gasket on the back when you go to install it. Now, the construction on these parts, the external metals are all a marine-grade 316 stainless steel. The electrical pins are nickel-plated brass. And all the plastics are UV and heat resistant. These parts are made in the USA. Does come with a nice set of instructions that'll describe how these parts all go together. And the specs on it again, the amperage is 50 amps, the voltage is 125 or 250 volts. An excellent upgrade after having previously replaced both the socket and cord end of the factory 50A plug and cord. Holds very securely and keeps water out! No more sketchy power or hot plug ends! Worth the time to put it in for sure!
The old style RV plugs are prone to have connection problems which causes melting of the unit. That happened to me in below freezing weather and we lost power to our trailer. This new plug will not have that problem. It fits together solidly and I don't worry about any loose connection. I have seen that the SmartPlug is now standard equipment on Airstream trailers. That's quite an endorsement. You Cann't go wrong with the SmartPlug system.
I have on several occasions experienced times when my electricity inside our RV wasn't working. It would inevitably be because the connection from shore power to the camper was loose. I just installed my new SmartPlug today and already feel confident in the connection. Purchasing from etrailer was easy and the product shipped in a timely manner.

I really like the SmartPlug! I kept noticing the old plug would turn sometimes in the socket and just about unplug itself. The SmartPlug is always secure and easy to unplug when you are ready.
The Smart Plug is a quality upgrade to our Airstream. It looks good and was an easy quick install.
Excellent customer service on the part of eTrailer. Had to exchange the stainless steel model for this one because of fitting issues. Product itself is well constructed and exceeds intended purpose!
I found the installation of the inlet easy and the modification of the connector very easy. The instructions were very easy to follow and very comprehensive.
The only issue was the rear cover (pictured) for the inlet could not fit at the front location of may 2019 Airstream Flying Cloud 27 ft. FB. I also installed the cable port.
Superior to all other shore power inlets! This system is amazing.
Easy to Install. Clear instructions but you can also find install videos on YouTube. Stainless cost slightly more than the plastic version but looks great on my Airstream.
The SmartPlug installed great and after a year of heavy use continues to perform perfectly! Electrical hookups are now quick and positive with solid connections!

I received at least two emails updating me on the shipping dates and another one when it shipped. The Smartplug was on back order and they kept me up to date.
It's installed but still building trailer so have not gotten to use it yet. Will Update when i do!

I had been looking at this plug for awhile before I bought it. I was living full time in my camper. And my old twist style plug kept blowing the breaker on the power box. Bought this to replace it. No problems at all cents then. Love it. Easy to in stall.
Delivery was a few days later than it said at first. Otherwise, product was what I ordered. No hardware sent with the inlet which was frustrating, why on earth wouldn't the company include the mounting screws?! Works fine otherwise.

This is a very well-built and designed product. I love the fact that it snaps securely to the inlet, and that the inlet closes securely when not in use. I got this to replace the mouse door that typically comes on campers (a huge hole port with a door that leaves a large gap while the cord is in use!). Keeping mice out is worth the price already, and this is a much better quality connector than I usually see on campers these days that use the detachable twist-lock type cords. Still working great after a year of use.
This is a very welcome improvement for our RV's Electrical hookup. Easy to install, took about an hour.
One concern, the connector instructions that I downloaded stated to cut back the cable outer jacket 1.25". The instructions that came with the connector stated to cut back the cable outer jacket to 1.75". I feel the 1.25" was correct. 1.75" does not really give you enough exposed outer jacket to achieve the required 1/4" grip by the cable clamp swing arm.
