  If you have a center punch or a very thin screwdriver you could drive out the roll pins, or drive them in, using a hammer. You don't have to have any special tools unless you do not have anything that is no larger than the diameter of the roll pin.

• Drilling Out the Roll Pins on the 8538-T Replacement Ladder Rung
  In my experience if you are drifting from side to side when attempting to drill out the roll pin you should switch to a smaller bit. The drifting is occurring because the bit is not properly indexing the roll pin but instead sitting on top of it too much and not following the center of the pin. Start with a bit just barely larger than the center hole of the pin. Take out the first 1/32" of it and slowly go up 1/32" at a time this allows you to drill it out from the inside out and by the...

  I went out to our warehouse to grab the Replacement Rubber Tread for Ladder Rung on Stromberg Carlson RV Ladders, # 8510-CP. As you can see from the picture that I have attached, the rubber tread is cut on the back and will slip over the rung just as you suggested. As for a 1 inch thick replacement tread, the only replacement tread that we have available for the Stromberg ladders is part # 8538-T which measures 3/4 inch thick.
