  • Are Safety Chains Required when Using a Pintle Hitch
Yes, you will want to use safety chains when using a pintle hook such as # C48007. It is a good idea any way just for safety's sake if nothing else. The other issue is that the laws regarding the use of chains can vary from state to state. The only type of hitch I know for sure doesn't require safety chains is a 5th wheel hitch. I have linked are safety chain main page.

  • Flipping a Ball/Pintle Combo
According to the folks at Curt, when the # CU37FR and # C48007 pintle hooks are designed and cast, they are not designed to withstand the force they'd be subjected to if they were inverted and used as standard ball mount. You'd be best served by measuring the receiver height and the height of the trailer coupler when it's jacked up so it's level, and finding the height difference. Then choose a ball mount that would provide you with the necessary weight rating, ball size and rise for...

  • Availability of Pintle Hook Combo Ball Mount with 2 inch Ball
For a version of the Curt Pintle Hook Combo part # C48006 that comes with a 2 inch ball you would want the part # C48007 instead. I attached a review video for this product for you to check out as well. Or you could replace the ball of the # C48006 with a # C48820.

  • Recommended Pintle Hitch with 2 Inch Hitch Ball Compatible with 2 Inch Trailer Hitch Receiver
For a ball mount like you are seeking, I recommend the Convert-A-Ball Cushioned Pintle Hook Combo w/ 3 Nickel-Plated Balls - 2" Hitches - 16,000 lbs # PH2. This isn't intended to keep the coupler attached like you referenced, as that is what the coupler latch is intended to do, but it can work in this way if you have a shallow enough coupler. Another option for a similar fit is the Curt Pintle Hook with 2" Ball - for 2" Hitches - 10,000 lbs/16,000 lbs # C48007.

  • Why Did My Trailer Become Unlatched While Towing My Sea Doo Trailer
James, there could be a number of reasons why the coupler decided to unlatch itself but it's probably due to a worn out latching mechanism in the coupler. To make sure it does not happen again, I'd suggest either replacing the latch or the entire coupler with a new one. If you want to replace the entire coupler, a coupler that has a locking collar like the Bulldog Collar-Lok Coupler # BD028288. This would be ideal since the built in collar would slide up and secure the jaws of the coupler...

  • Hitch Pin or Locking Hitch Pin Recommendations for Curt Pintle Hook C48007
The hitch pin hole size on the Curt pintle hook/ball combo # C48007 is a 5/8 inch which is standard for accessories that fit in 2 inch trailer hitches. If you already have a 5/8 inch pin then you're good to go. If you need a regular 5/8 pin you can use # PC3. Or if you are interested in a locking hitch pin I recommend # e98880 because it performs well and has hundred of positive reviews. The ball hole accepts a ball with a 1-1/4 inch shank.

  • How To Obtain a Pintle Hook Ball Combo with 1-7/8 and 2 Inch Hitch Balls
The best option I can offer you would be to obtain the Curt Pintle Hook with 2" Ball part # C48007 and the 1-7/8" Hitch Ball for Curt Pintle Hook Combo part # C48810. The reason for this is that we do not offer a 1-7/8" pintle ball with the exact dimensions that you need nor do I think you will be able to find one as 1-7/8" is a very odd size for a pintle ball.

  • Lengths of Curt Pintle Hook Ball Mounts C48007 and C48190 with C48323
I spoke with my contact at Curt and he informed me that the length of the # C48007 is 9.9 inches and the part # C48190 with the # C48323 measures 12.875 inches. Since you want shorter you would want the part # C48007.
