Yes, you will want to use safety chains when using a pintle hook such as # C48007. It is a good idea any way just for safety's sake if nothing else. The other issue is that the laws regarding the use of chains can vary from state to state. The only type of hitch I know for sure doesn't require safety chains is a 5th wheel hitch.
