Video Transcript for Thule Snug Tite Hitch Lock and Anti Rattle Device Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Thule Snug Tite Hitch Lock and Anti Rattle Device, Part Number THSTL2. The Thule Snug Tite Hitch Lock is going to replace your existing Anti Rattle Device with a Locking Anti Rattle Device. It works great as an upgrade or to replace a missing hitch lock. It's going to work on both 1 1/4 inch and 2 inch Thule Hitch Mounted Racks. It's very easy to install and it comes with 2 keys. Now that we got all the features, let me go ahead and show you how to get it installed. We've already got our Thule Vertex Bike Rack installed in our receiver. Let's get started. Now let's grab our lock and our locking core. It does come with a locking core.

They are changeable if you'd like to key it alike to your other Thule accessories. We'll just open it up. We'll grab our master key, put that in, then we'll line up our notches, put it in place and then we'll want to hold onto it, pull it out . Then we can take our key and make sure we've got it in there correctly. Now, with our locking core installed, we can go ahead and grab our anti rattle bolt. This is simply just going to replace your old anti rattle bolt on your bike rack. You want to make sure that the pin holes are lined up.

Go ahead and insert that, get that hand-tightened . Then we can take our included tool and tighten it the rest of the way down. Once we've got that all the way tight, we can take our lock, put it in place, turn it to make sure it's locked, then put on our dust cap and then we've got it. The bike rack is not going anywhere. That's going to complete our look at the Thule Snug Tight Hitch Lock and Anti Rattle Device, Part Number THSTL2.

Product order/delivery experience was outstanding. Product is definitely to carry my two bikes safely. Assembly was easy and fits on my new truck just fine. The shipment contained all three items that were ordered all coming in one box with a label clearly showing content of shipment.... so nice to not have anything missing. Out of the box in just a few minutes and passed my test drive.... solid fit, no rattles, and looks pretty good too! I purchased the Snug Site Hitch Lock and Anti Rattle Device Bike Adaptor Bar for my wife's bike. Very satisfied! 339375

Thanks for following up - impressive. The products I bought from etrailer are great. The rack turned out to be quite the attraction as I had several people see me with it in use and come over to see how it works and ask where did I get it. Hopefully you received some orders from some of the people I referred to etrailer. The products I purchased and your service is great.

It sucks that Thule does not include this with the $400 rack they sell but well worth the additional cost and ease of mind knowing that it's now locked in place. Secures just like the original bolt, only now it's secured. Draw back is I have two keys, one to lock the rack to the car and the second for locking the bikes to the rack. 567350

I've ordered from etrailer.com three times over the past two years and I am very satisfied with the products and their services. This past order I was looking for a particular trailer hitch lock and they helped me find it with no trouble. I would highly recommend etrailer and I expect to use them in future. 136744

Good lock. When tightened down, it really locks the hitch and rack together. Driving down the road, I noticed no shake at all - even going over some low grade bumps. Of course you can use the bolt Thule furnishes to lock it down if you don't want the anti-theft protection. I would have rated it "Excellent" except for the cost. Surely 50 bucks is overpriced! - BUT, it does the job 146478

Both the rack and the lock are working quite well. The rack is a quality product and I enjoy using it.

Ordered the Draw-Tite 24763 for my 2015 Honda Civic Sedan, and was very satisfied at the speed and detail of not only the correspondence and email between etrailer.com but also the shipping speed and condition of packaging. I received this in six days from start to finish of order. I did not spring for faster shipping and was satisfied with this type of time frame considering the size and weight of packaging. I also got the Thule Hitching Post TH934XTR four bike rack and THSTL2 hitch lock anti-rattle device. I had planned ahead by watching all of the great videos on etrailer and printed out some instructions from the site. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised with their attention to detail that this was unnecessary as they included a copy of the same instructions I printed in the box. The install went exactly like the instructions/videos said it would and if I hadn't been interested in getting the beauty plastic underbody piece back on I could have been done in fifteen minutes with a lift and another set of hands. All in all a very easy kit to install, and thanks to etrailer for the speed, quality, and including all the necessary hardware and instructions. 5/5 would definitely do business with again and recommend. 269804

Anything Thule makes is well constructed. This little lock is no exception. It is easy to install and locks the bolt in place that holds the carrier in your two inch trailer hitch. The shaft is on the long side, protruding a couple of inches or more beyond the framework. But, due to its location it would be difficult, but not impossible to saw off. And a word about the website, when you view the page of the product you are looking at, you will see a row of windows below with other products that are similar but not necessarily compatible. I made the mistake of ordering a lock that was incompatible with the bike rack I ordered. In other words, TMI. Returns. Hassle. But etrailer.com exchanged the lock and I ordered the right one. 551684

This hitch lock is a must have if you have an expensive bike rack. This gives a piece-of-mind and save you the hassles of installing and uninstalling the bike rack. It is very easy to install. 430759

For reasons unknown, Thule manufactures the TH958 Parkway bike rack to attach to a standard 2" hitch with a bolt that only goes halfway through the business end of the slinger. This lock unit also only threads halfway though and you affix the keyed end on the left hand side of the TH958. This works particularly well, if you are left handed. Why the TH958 was not tapped out throughout is problematic, because if it was, then you could place the lock on the left, or, if you are right-handed, on the right. The THSTL2 does protect the slinger section from being taken. However, this leaves the pivot section and the arm assembly vulnerable. Both sections are are affixed with hex screws and bolts that can easily be removed with two crescent wrenches. In order to remedy the situation forget the bolts and make the attachments with the hex screws and invest in a couple of stainless steel wingnuts. In order to make sure your unit will stay yours be best prepared to break down the rack and store it inside your vehicle. The wingnuts will make the chore easier. At 44 bucks and change it is not worth it. Perhaps Thule will one day address these issues. In the meantime, caveat emptor. 79154

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review here Bill. The reason behind the shorter bolt is that all the bolt-in Thule hitch mounted carriers have a nut welded to the inside of the stinger portion that s into the receiver and this bolt only needs to pass through that nut to snug this up in the receiver. We found that with a longer bolt there is too much redundant tightening if the bolt were to pass all the way through, that is also why the STL2 bolt is not fully threaded. As for the locking features, these are intended to deter any theft or vandalism, as with all locks.

I had recently purchased a Sportrack Crest 2 Locking bike rack for my 2014 Toyota Tacoma Dbl Cab. The anti seize bolt pin was not long enough for the included lock, to engage. It was almost a 1/2 inch short. I contacted Sportrack support, and was told that was the only bolt that was available for that model. I was also told, they would bring it up at there next weekly meeting? I replied back to them with all my information of measuring my 2" hitch receiver inner and outer circumference, taking photos of the bolt pin installed, in hopes that Thule would help me find a resolve, as I was unable to use the Sportrack Hitch Lock, thus leaving my bike rack unsecured. I got a reply back from Thule, again saying that they would bring it up at there next weekly meeting, and also said to me, that this product had been in production for 25 years or more, and it was highly doubtful, that the accessory was available. Really? How could I be the only one with this problem, surely others have run into this same problem, and I even read a couple reviews of that very fact. A couple weeks later, no response or any support from Thule. So I decided to do my own research and try to find a resolve. Then I fould etrailer.com. I spoke with Theresa, and explained my problem. She and I went to work looking on there website to find a replacement or suitable anti seize threaded bolt pin, that had same overall dimensions, but just a longer length. Much to my surprise, we found the bolt, and it was longer, and looked to be able to work. Oh and guess what! Its made by THULE!! Imagine that!! Only problem was, the end of the bolt, had a different machine cut where the lock I had would engage, and it would be a gamble trying it, even though the price was reasonable. We found the resolve, and saw that Thule did make not only that bolt, but also they made it in a complete locking version (THSTL2), that included a bolt, lock cylinder, master key, and reg set keys, and a Thule brand lock and a nice tool to tighten up the bolt once it was threaded into the receiver and into the hitch threads. While it was more money, I was pretty sure this would work, in replacing the useless Sportrack anti-seize threaded hitch pin and lock, that came with my Sportrack Crest 2 Locking. It arrived, and took me all of less than 5 mins to open the package, insert the tumbler, test the keys, and install the threaded bolt, and lock it with the new lock. Now my rack is secured to the hitch. I couldn't be happier with the support I received from etrailer, and no thanks to Sportrack/Thule customer support, that they left me in the dark, with a product that obviously had a compatibility issue with my vehicles receiver size. I give 5 stars for the support I received from etrailer.com, who took the time to assist me. 726752

I purchased the Thule Roadway 2 Bike Rack - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Tilting, Thule Bike Adapter Bar, trailer hitch receiver and Thule Snug Tite Hitch Lock and Anti-Rattle Device for my 2012 Acura TL to take my mountain bike and my son's bike camping over the summer. I was a little nervous using it for the first time, especially on a 3.5 hour drive every other summer, but the equipment functioned flawlessly! I even received a comment regarding how sturdy the equipment is and that it does not move a lot like other bike racks they have seen. I did have an issue with the stinger, but etrailer resolved my problem with absolutely no issue what-so-ever. I'm very happy with the products I purchased and even more happy with the purchase experience and interaction I had with etrailer and its staff. 707013

Very easy to assemble and install on our Subaru Outback. Traveled from Desert Hot Springs, CA to Spokane Valley, WA with no problems other than tightening the Snug Tite Hitch Lock Bolt several times along the way. At one rest stop along the way a guy came up to me and said he was following us on the freeway and noticed that the two bikes were not swaying at all. Wanted to know what kind it was and where I purchased it. He said the bike rack he had bought left his bikes swaying all over and as a result was carrying his bikes in the rear of his SUV. Thanks again for a great product. William Wert 696979

Product is great, works well, easy to install and remove. A huge shout out to etrailer.com, though. I had previously purchased the Thule Hitching Post bike rack for the smaller hitch on my Civic, but when I upgraded my vehicle to a CRV, my new trailer hitch was too large for the bike rack. No worries, I thought, as my Thule bike rack came with a 2 inch hitch adapter. Unfortunately, while I had the adapter, I couldn't find the screw to attach it to the bike rack nor the hitch pin to attach it to the hitch. I don't even remember if it came with them, to be honest. I went to many hardware and auto stores looking for a bolt long enough to secure it to my hitch but couldn't find anything that worked. So, defeated and not even knowing WHAT I needed to search for (Thule's website wasn't helpful at all), I found this exchange: https://www.etrailer.com/question-289912.html which ended up being exactly what I needed! I ordered both the replacement screw and this hitch pin and they both work great. So, thanks etrailer.com, I probably would still be looking if I hadn't stumbled upon you! 644388

I am so impressed with etrailer.com This business has exceeded my expectations on several occasions. This time, I learned on Mother's Day and my son had taken the locking hitch mount for our bike rack and lost it making my bike rack unusable. We were going for a family bike ride and I was frustrated beyond measure. I immediately got on the etrailer site and found the replacement parts and ordered them. 4 days later the parts were in a package in my mailbox. I am totally impressed. 642574

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack for a 2019 Jeep Wrangler
  • I recommend going with the etrailer.com Trailer Hitch Receiver # E98856 for your 2019 Jeep Wrangler because it has a longer receiver portion (for more clearance) and a matte black finish that helps hide scratches much better than the glossy finish that is popular with other trailer hitches. When we installed this on a 2018 Jeep JL Wrangler Unlimited we found that from the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost part of the bumper measured 2-1/2" (see attached installation video)....

To secure your bike rack in your receiver, you will want the Thule Snug Tite Hitch Lock and Anti-Rattle Device # THSTL2 for a locking option or just the replacement pin # 853-5917. For your cradles, I recommend the Replacement Stay-Put Cradle for Thule Roadway Bike Carriers # 853-7887 you mentioned and the Replacement Anti-Sway Cage # 853-7758. These cradles will...

  • Hitch Pin Recommendation for Older Thule Swing Away Bike Rack
  • For a locking hitch pin to fit the Thule Swingaway bike rack you sent in a picture of the part # THSTL2 would the pin to use. For just the pin portion you'd want the part # 853-5917. Looks like that rack is installed in a RV hitch. You should note that Thule does not rate their bike racks for use at the rear of an RV due to the much rougher ride quality. I know that's not what you asked about but it's important that you know that.

  • Selecting Hitch for 2007 Subaru Outback Wagon with Dual Exhaust for Use with Hitch Bike Rack
  • For your 2007 Subaru Outback Wagon with dual exhaust we offer two sizes/classes of trailer hitch, all of which are displayed on the linked page. We always recommend the higher-capacity 2-inch Class III type whenever there is a choice since it will offer a higher tongue weight (TW) rating, which is really what matters when using a hitch-mounted accessory such as a hitch bike rack like the Thule Hitching Post Pro # TH934XTR or hitch cargo carrier like # 63153. The 2-inch Class III hitch...

  • Replacement Hitch Bolt for a Thule Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Rack
  • It sounds like you are looking for hitch bolt # 853-5917. Even if you don't have the Snug Tite lock you can still use this bolt. But if you wanted to add the lock as well you could instead get # THSTL2 this is the lock, bolt, keys, washers, and a little wrench that you can use to dig through tools to find a better wrench to use to tighten the bolt. I have linked a video review for you.

  • Weight of Swagman Trailhead, Swagman Titan, Thule Roadway and Kuat Beta Bike Racks
  • The Thule Roadway 2 Bike Rack # TH912XTR weighs approximately 35 lbs, the Swagman Titan 2 Bike Rack # S63400 weighs approximately 33 lbs and the Swagman Trailhead 2 Bike Rack # S63360 weighs about 27 lbs. These are each quality bike racks and should be manageable but if you are looking for a truly lightweight, easy-to-use hanging bike rack you may also want to consider the Kuat Beta which weighs 12.6 lbs. It is available for 2 inch hitches # B202-2 and 1-1/4 inch hitches # B202-114. Additionally,...

  • How to Carry Bikes on the Front of a Minnie Winnie with Ford E-450 Chassis
  • I do have a solution for you to carry some bikes at the front of your Minnie Winnie (on a 2017 Ford E-450 Chassis) but all trunk mount bike racks like the Thule Raceway PRO # TH9001PRO you referenced have only been tested and approved for installation on the trunk or hatch of a vehicle. Even if you could find a way for this rack to fit there is no way to guarantee that it would be able to safely transport your bikes. For your application you need to install the Draw-Tite Front Mount...

  • Locking Hitch Pin Compatibility Between Bike Rack Manufacturers
  • The Thule Vertex 2 Bike Rack TH9028XT is a nice bike rack. Unfortunately each manufacturer has a different threaded hitch pin to use as a lock and anti-rattle device for their bike racks and unfortunately they are not compatible with each other. Each manufacturer make sure their hitch pin is slightly different to ensure their product gets used for compatibility and warranty purposes. I recommend using the Thule Snug Tite Hitch Lock and Anti-Rattle Device # THSTL2 to secure your rack. The...

  • Recommended Economic 4 Bike Rack for 2018 Toyota Highlander XLE
  • There are lots of options for bike racks compatible with your 2018 Toyota Highlander XLE. My recommendation is to go with a platform style rack that will tilt for cargo area clearance and fold close to the vehicle when not in use. Hitch pin location is key, but your Highlander won't have any issue with most bike racks because the hitch pin hole is not extremely far back from the outer bumper. My recommendation for you is the Swagman XTC4 4-Bike Rack for 2" Hitches - Platform Style...

  • Will Thule Roadway 2 Bike Rack Work with Fat Bike Tire with Slanted Frame
  • The Thule Roadway 2 Bike Rack # TH912XTR referenced in your question is a nice, hanging-style rack that features dual arms to support the bike's frame. Since your bike's frame doesn't run in a straight line from the seat post to the handlebar post, you likely will just need an adapter bar like the Kuat # UB01. This will attach to the bike's frame and provide a horizontal attachment point so that it can ride level. The issue with your bike's frame is that it will cause the rear tire to hang...

  • Recommended Hitch Pin Lock For Thule Vertex Bike Rack
  • For your Thule Vertex whether a 2 bike or a 4 bike tilting or swinging, the same lock is needed. It is the Thule Snug Tite Hitch Lock and Anti-Rattle Device # THSTL2. This is the only compatible hitch pin and lock available for Thule bike racks. The # 853-5917 you referenced is the replacement pin for this lock set.

  • Recommended Locking Hitch Pin and Anti-Rattle for Solid Shank Hitch Extension
  • The Blue Ox Hitch Extender for Tow Bars - 2" Hitches - 12" Extension # BX88264 has a solid shank at the trailer hitch receiver end that is not threaded, so you would need to use a hitch pin lock like # e98880 on that end and then for an anti-rattle you will need an external device like # BX88224 for the best stabilization or # RM-061 for a more economical option. The opposite end with the receiver opening can use the Thule Snug Tite Hitch Lock and Anti-Rattle Device # THSTL2 if you are...

  • Replacement Shank Adapter and Flathead Screw for a Thule Bike Rack
  • For the Thule hitch adapter, part # 853-7489, you'll need the flathead screw, part # 853-5787-02 to refit the adapter. If you have lost your hitch pin, you can get a replacement kit with part # THSTL2

  • Replacement Hitch Pin for the Thule Hitching Post Pro
  • The Thule Goalpost part # TH997 is not a bike rack but rather a hitch mounted load bar/extender. If you can send me a picture of your bike rack then I would be able to help you identify which model you have. However, I believe what you are referring to is the Thule Hitching Post Pro part # TH934XTR If this is the case then the adapter you would have got from Thule is part # 853-7489. For this adapter, you will need part # 853-5787-02 to attach it to the singer on your bike rack and part...

  • Replacement Hitch Pin for a Thule Bike Rack with Lock

If you're only missing the hitch pin, you can reuse the lock, and get a new pin as part # 853-5917. New locks that will key-alike are available in a two pack as part # TH450200. • Trailer Hitch And 4-Bike Carrier For 2011 Honda CR-V
  • The trailer hitch you mentioned, part # 13555 is a good fit for your 2011 CR-V. This is a Class lll trailer hitch and it has a 2-inch receiver opening. The bike carrier # TH9056 is also a great fit for your vehicle. This carrier can hold four bikes that weigh up to 37-1/2 lbs each. For added security you can purchase the hitch lock part # THSTL2 that secures the bike carrier to the trailer hitch. If you are planning on carrying bikes with alternative frames like kids bikes or...
