Feels solid, minimal wobbling. Easy to get bike on and off, and to access the trunk with the bike on. Like that it can be expanded to hold 2 bikes, and the relatively low cost. Used with a Curt hitch from this site on a 2017 Miata.
I just finished installing this rack on my 2017 Subaru Outback. I've been researching platform racks for about 2 months now, and the most important things to me (other than a reasonable price) were no frame contact, ease of getting the bike on and off the rack, not too heavy for me to take it off the car, and enough clearance in the back for me to close my garage door. This rack is perfect for me. And I like that it's expandable to two bikes if I want to do that down the line. It came very well packaged. I am a single gal and not handy AT ALL, but I was able to do the installation with no problem. I did put my bike on the rack and took a short test ride, it was very stable. Very solid well made product!
Went together easy, hold my bike firmly and the tail gate on ty CX 50 goes un up and down past it in the up and down configurations.
We had trouble with the two long bolts for the tire cups, but managed to figure out that one was longer than the other. Looked like they both could have been longer. Thanks for keeping me in the loop throughout the shipping process. I look forward to getting my new bike now!
While the directions could use better illustrations (at least for this left/right front/back challenged assembler!), the rack was easy to assemble. I was expecting to struggle with setting it into the receiver and using it but it was so easy that I asked a friend if I had missed something. Overall, I am extremely pleased with the product.
Customer service was beyond excellent; it was outstanding! They patiently answered all my (many!) questions, helped me understand pros/cons of different options and in the end, decide which product would best suit my needs. ETrailer will remain "my guy" for any of my future needs for which they offer products.

Very nice bike rack. Easy to assemble and to mount your bike. I have not yet driven on rough roads but around town the rack is very solid with little sway.
Had the rack put on, and the fellow that helped me felt it was the nicest rack to work with. I have a extremely heavy Ebike, and this rack makes my job a dream. Load it on, and away I go. The tires fit nicely in the holders, and everything is secure. Highly Recommend.
I received the rack last night and installed it this morning with no troubles on a 2015 Toyota RAV 4. The quality and fit are terrific. It is very easy to use, is well designed, and folds up and out of the way or down to let the hatch open nicely. It is a solid piece of gear. I'm quite pleased with the product and I have no major complaints.
Two minor points:
1. Others point out the locks don't seem especially rugged, and I agree. I'm looking for a better after-market version, though the one included will keep the opportunistic possibly dishonest person inclined to honesty.
2. The hooks which extends and anchors the front tire down is anodized metal, which does come in contact with the bike frames, and will wear the finish off on the bikes at the top of the forks. I used two layers of felt tape on the contact point, which should prevent any problems from arising.
I remain impressed by the great service from eTrailer, and will come back here for anything else I need. Nice work, everyone.
1 year in, this remains a fantastic rack. It is best in the one-bike configuration, as it is more solid and the trunk on my VW Golf can be opened even with it raised. The extension is a little wobbly simply because it is a separate piece. You definitely need to crank down the screws on the extension periodically.
Overall, if you want a one-bike rack that can accommodate a buddy's bike for the occasional ride, this is perfect. If you need two all the time, I'd look for a single-piece unit for the sturdiness. But the tray style is 1000% the way to go!
Very happy with the bike rack. And customer service from etrailer was very good. When I was trying to assemble it, couldn't quite figure out one step They worked with me on the phone and we figured it out I have had the hitch for a year and would buy it again.
Overall this is a good rack. It's very easy to use and requires no effort to get a bike mounted in seconds! It also can handle my fat bike with 4 inch tires. I did buy an extension from etrailer so I counld haul another bike. This extension ONLY has two short bolts to secure it to the rack which come loose all the time. Not a very good design and one of the bolts has stripped from having to tighten it so much. Needless to say I am disappointed and somewhat worried about putting a bike on the extension. If I did not have an extension for a secound bike I would have given this rack a much higher rating.
The rocky mounts bike works great. It is sturdy holding two bikes and it is easy to mount bikes and remove them. The wheel mount rack secures the bike much better than the frame mount rack I used to have and it is much better for the bike to be mounted this way. My only suggestion would be to make it easier to install/remove the rack from the vehicle hitch receptacle as it can be a challenge to reach the securing bolt. Aside from that, this is a great product that I have recommended to friends.
Info shared by manufacturer for display on all web sites is different than that shared in product manual. "Weight capacity (per bike): 60 lbs. Add-on weight capacity: 40 lbs." For a 2 rack carrier, this implies it's 60#/bike. It's not. It's only 60# if only 1 bike. When add on the rack for the 2nd bike, it drops weight capacity for both bikes. So our 35# and 47# bikes can no be carried by this carrier.
2nd: No amount of struggle on our part could enable is to attach the 2nd rail. Can't remember now if holes didn't align, or screw/bolt couldn't be joined. But shouldn't have to hire someone to re-engineer screws/bolts.
As a single rack, it's nice. But we wanted a double rack and this doesn't do what info implied.
Build looks durable and the installation was fairly straightforward!

You mentioned that you were disappointed with the weight capacity of the bike rack when using the second tray. I did recheck the capacity of the rack, and it is 60 pounds with one bike and the second tray allows an additional 40-pound bike to be carrier. We do offer bike racks that would give you more capacities such part # HLY84FR and part # HLY64FR that can carry 80 pounds per bike or part # BA22B which can carry 60 pounds per bike.
