Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Fastway Universal Coupler Lock. The universal design is going to protect most trailers from being towed away, so it's designed to provide maximum security for your unattended trailer. It's going to protect it from theft. It's going to use a multi-step Uni-ball that fits into any size ball coupler. Now, this piece is a solid construction. It's not hollow, like similar designs and models, and the shackle has a really nice, unique bend.
This is a reversible design that allows it to snug up tight to most type of couplers or coupler latches, including all the ones that you see here on the table, such as A-frame, straight channel, round tongue, flat plate, and serge-type couplers. It's also going to accommodate a variety of latching mechanisms such as trigger, pin, thumb, and wraparound yoke latches. It works great on all the ones that you see here on the table. Really nice, universal design that's going to provide maximum security to your unattended trailer. The unit features a tube key lock cylinder that provides better security than standard key mechanisms. It's a lot harder to pick, and it's more difficult to duplicate keys.
It's also going to feature an anti-drill pin, that discourages attempts to drill out the lock. The unit's also going to feature bolt-blocked locking system, to prevent thieves from prying the lock open. Inside this hole right there, there's going to be a small bolt that engages the shackle. Right now, it would be in the unlocked position. You can see how that comes out just a little bit.
It doesn't take much to secure the unit, but that bolt that runs through there engages the grooves on the shackle, to keep it from being pried off of the trailer coupler. Now, when it comes to the construction, we're looking at a hardened steel construction when it comes to the shackle. It's going to provide maximum cut resistance. Chrome-plated finish does a great job at resisting rust and corrosion. Then, we're looking at a solid, die-cast, corrosion-resistant housing that's very strong and very durable. 2 keys are included per lock. They are numbered, so the keys are going to be unique to the universal lock that you choose.
This is going to fit 1 7/8 inch, 2 inch, and 2 5/16 inch ball couplers. You just need to make sure that the coupler width does not exceed 4 1/2 inches. The shackle diameter is 5/8 of an inch, and the unit's going to be covered with a limited lifetime warranty. I just want to show you how it installs and how easy it is to use. What you'll need to do is separate the 2 components. Just move it to the unlock position. It also has as nice dust cap, that protects that lock opening. It's going to do a great job at keeping out dirt and moisture. When you're ready to use it, all you need to do is make sure that the coupler is in the open position. The ball portion goes in there, and then all you've got to do is secure it, just as if you're hooking up to your hitch ball. Then, install the shackle. You need to determine which way's going to work best for your application. For this one, I just want to make sure that the point is pointing back towards the trailer. It is a universal design, that way, you can adjust it however you need to use the lock to fit your application the best. Then, we just move it to an unlocked position, allow that shackle to go down as far as possible, move the key to the locked position, and it removes from the core. Place on the dust cap, and that's on there. It's not going to come off. The only way to get it off is to use 1 of the 2 keys to unlock the unit. That's going to do it for today's look at the Fastway Universal Coupler Lock.

I wish I could tell you more, I've only had this a week. It looks like a quality product and installed quickly and easily on our 1957 Pathfinder 16ft Travel Trailer. With this old hitch I did not know if it would work but it looks like it was designed especially for it.

Fits my trailer and ordered one with same key as the one on my other trailer which is very handy. I suppose, with enough effort, this lock could be defeated but it presents a good reason to just move on to an unprotected trailer.
I bought several of these, keyed alike and have found them useful. The keyed alike feature is a winner. One key on every set of vehicle keys and I can access any of the rigs at will. The product itself can be a bit tricky to align, and on a steel hitch it will take some of the paint off eventually. Better than getting stolen I'd say. I've used it on 2 inch, 2&5/16 50mm and 1&7/8 couplers. The best fit is on the hitch I show a picture of, though in this case the lock is probably worth more than the trailer. . .
The lock seems extremely robustly made. My trailer has a wide flange around the coupler and the stepped design of the bail fits perfectly. The circular keyway is secure and the casting is smooth. The teeth on both sides of the bail provide more secure latching than my one-sided prior lock. The main lock piece is smooth on the bottom preventing someone from hooking under the lock and just towing the trailer away. My prior lock had a lip that allowed the trailer to be moved with a tow hook.
My only complaint is that it came with two very sharp, very pointy metal pins sticking out of the bail, maybe to secure it in the package. I had to get a pair of pliers to remove these before they ripped my hands up.
The ball lock I purchased from etrailer.com is the perfect tool for the job. It has several locking positions for different height tongue assemblies and one which was perfect for mine. The lock is smaller than the one I replaced, rendering it much less obtrusive. The chrome coloring also helps it blend better with the hitch, so if you use it while camping your trailer has a “friendlier” appearance to fellow campers. I really like the fact it came with 4 keys and case hardening makes it even safer and lighter than my old lock. Best of all, however, was the superb customer service I received from etrailer.com. Before, during, and yes, even after I received my lock they followed up to make sure I was happy. 5 star service. Would definitely recommend them to my trailering friends.
good product. Been using these for years. We have 12 bumper pull style trailers and use these tongue locks when they are on job sites. It's nice from e trailer because we can get the locks keyed the same. It was miserable having a bunch of different keys.

The lock is diecast pot metal. It broke very easily. A strike with a large hammer will easily shatter the lock casting.
It has proved to be an awesome trailer lock. Locking mechanism works smoothly. I purchased 1 for each of my 3 trailers and all keyed alike.
I have ordered 4 of these locks with all the same key number. They stay working great for years.
