I can't fit two bikes on the two bike rack. The rack is too close to the bumper so I can put one bike on the outside but if I want to put a second bike on the rack, I will need to take of the pedal on one side so it doesn't rub against the bumper. This is for the Swagman two bike rack on a 2008 Volvo S-40.
Hitch arrived when promised. Fit like a glove. The instructions on removing the muffler support was very helpful. Do try to raise the rear of the car. I did only about six inches and it helped a lot. Also, when you bend the tie-down tabs down for hitch clearance, either break them off or make sure you give yourself clearance for your socket. I had to use an open-ended wrench on one side. Finally, I chose this hitch because the crossbar is behind the plastic spoiler - you can’t see it at all. All you see is the receiver.
Easy install on my Volvo V50, great service from e-trailer. Nice low-profile look.

After more than a year of use, holding up great. Still love the look and its a solid product. No sign of rust yet which is a big deal in Maine.
Was fairly easy to install for two people with moderate mechanical experience, fits perfectly with no drilling. Solid construction. Be aware that if you have an S40 with the dynamic trim package it will not quite clear the rear valance, you could cut away part of it, but I opted to simply bend it up out of the way when using the hitch.
Install took a little over an hour. It does take some futzing to get the hitch up where it needs to go. I found it easier to bend the exhaust hanger tabs by taking the bracket off the car.
In the end everything lined up (it sure was close!). It was easy to torque the M8 bolts to spec, but getting the 1/2" ones to 110ft/lb without having the car raised up much was not possible, I just couldn't get the leverage. I'll need to go back and do that later.
Good quality product, Came with all necessary installation hardware. Installation instructions and on-line videos were helpful. Installed on 2011 Volvo, perfect fit, no extra drilling, everything lined up with existing holes.
1 year later and no complaints. And installation directions and hardware/brackets/etc. were all good.
Arrived in good condition and fit great. Installation is more difficult when doing it yourself. An extra set of hands would be nice getting everything lined up, but that is not a fault of the product.
Very fast shipping and phone service was very good.
Exact fit. Easy install. Product has been great.
Awesome Hitches.

Thanks for sharing that, John, I can definitely see how that would be frustrating. On your S40, the hitch sits pretty close to the bumper, so clearance can get tight with some platform racks, especially around pedals and frames. What you’re running into there is pretty common with that style of rack on smaller vehicles. Sometimes rotating the pedals or handlebars can help a bit, but depending on the bike and rack, it may still be a tight fit. Another option is using a rack with more built-in clearance or adding a small hitch extender, though that can reduce capacity so it’s something to be mindful of. One important thing to keep in mind is that with a Class I hitch like this, it’s actually only rated for carrying one bike, even if the rack itself is designed for two. So trying to load up both bikes can not only create clearance issues like you’re seeing, but also push beyond what the hitch is designed to handle. What kind of bike are you usually carrying? How heavy are they?
