Even really inexpensive items purchased from overseas usually include some type of diagram or installation sheet. Unfortunately with this cam latch product, [manufacturer] chooses to exclude any diagram with the parts. Sure all of us can figure out the assembly at some point, however the assembly would progress much more quickly with a diagram. Typically, e trailer has installation videos which can be helpful. In this case the associated video is nothing more than a scripted sales presentation which is of little to zero value to the assembler. While the quality “appears” ok, I would not purchase the product again just due to the lack of documentation.

Worked very well thanks

I used this to make a door locking mechanism for the firebox door for my wood-fired maple syrup evaporator.

Was easy to use/set up. BNought some black pip, grinded off the paint, welded some bits, and bam! Best door locking/opening mechanism ever. Just like the professional units that cost $1000s

My 2013 Mission snowmobile trailer needed some “TLC”
It was showing its age. Last year I bought the bottom hinges from Etrailer. This year I replaced the door latches.
Absolutely a perfect fit! Easy install, videos are great with helpful tips…very happy to spruce up the sled trailer.

the cam action latch kits were exactly what I needed. fair price and good delivery. Thanks

Good price, good customer service and fast shipping.

Exact replacement for me. No hardware which they do tell you beforehand. I had 25 dollars in new bolts and nuts etc.

Thanks for the follow up. We just bought a Look 6' x 12' cargo trailer that only had the in-door lock on the side door. Of course we wanted to beef that up and in searching found your site. After reading the reviews we ordered the #305736 36" side door bar lock assembly on 1/20 and received it 1/22. Great! We installed it the next day in about an hour. It went on with minimal effort (drilling the holes was the worst) and looks as if it came on the trailer. We did install the hinge side over the door trim and used backer plywood inside with oversized washers and locking washers. We did the same for the door bracket. The pictures on your site from customers helped us, so we have attached a couple of our own. Thanks e-trailer! The Wheelers

I purchased two of the Universal Cam-Door Lock for Enclosed Trailers - 38320. I used them to close barn doors that are 80" by 80" each. The cam -Door Lock works great for these doors. All the parts are very heavy duty. The Cam-Door Locks closes the doors very firmly against the frame from top to bottom, keeping the doors even and level. I have also used this kit to close doors on a wood drying kiln where the doors have to tightly seal. Again, they work great to apply the needed amount of closing pressure to engage the weather seals. This kit is a good buy where you need to close doors with firm pressure.

The Cam Door Lock works great. I am still very pleased with the product. I have recommended it to a number of people.

I had to cut and re weld the hinges to fit the right side of the trailer but it saved me from having to build the whole thing. I am satisfied with the results

I just attached the 36" latch bar. it only took about 30 minutes. Took longer to make sure it was positioned right and not to impede on the rv latch. I included a small bracket on the door as well. Latch hardware seems better the originals on back. 5/16" carriage bolts are needed. I used 2 1/2" then cut off anything past the nut. Pictures included.

Michael,Im doing exactly what you did putting this bar lock over an RV style door. The door is about 12 from being flush with the trailer side and it looks like yours may be too. Did you bend the strap to get it to lay flat against the door? I thought of spacing out the hinge plates so theyre flush with the door but dont think that would look good. Also, did you remove the rear lip on the aluminum trim the hinge plates are mounted over, space under the hinge plates, or just mount over it?Thanks,Steve

Steve, there is an aluminum trim around the rv door, I just bumped the hinge of the bar to the closest lip of that alum. trim to the door basically mounting over the top of the trim -so on top of the left side bump and bumped the right side if that makes sense. it kinda naturally fits. the bar lays nice and tight to the door by just mounting it ad is. Add some metal straps on iside of door mount to beef that up. I used 2 or 2.5 inch bolts with oversized washers on inside alum. jamb and cut off excess bolt and grindedsanded smooth to nut. I siliconed the gaps on the outside above hinge because it wont sit flat due to the alum. trim so water doeant get on by bolts. Hope that helps.

Is there a weak point created when bolting the hinges so close to the edge of the door opening? Could you install one of these by moving the whole assembly to the left, thus creating room for hinge backplates? I guess you would have to lower the mount point as well, to avoid the doors backplate from hitting the factory lock and use a shorter but wider door backplate.I assume you feel your hinges are secure. I have yet to take ownership of my trailer so I dont know what kind of stud is framing the door.I am so happy this accessory is available. I really didnt notice the pitiful side door lock until after I purchased my trailer. A crowbar and about 5 seconds is all it would take to get inside!

Usually these latches are not positioned so closely to the edge of the door. Most of the time, the hinges of the handle side and the latch for the handle are set equidistant from the edges of their respective doors.

E-trailer did an excellent job of shipping and handling of the product sent to me. It is of high quality and should last for years. It was delivered when they said it would be and I have installed it. Quite happy with it but wish that they would stock a 45" bar lock

The latch assembly is exactly what I needed for the shed that I built to house my small refrigerator. The critters or other unwanted cant get in.

by:
You never shipped the hasps nor ANY mounting hardware! I don’t have time for this crap and i am not happy at all!! All I got were handles. Without hasps or hardware, they just sit in the box. Try slowing down to make sure everything your customers order is actually IN the order!!

This item is as advertised!
Just know it is no an exact replacement for the Imperial Stamping hinge used on my Haulmark trailer. This hinge is about 3/16” shorter than the Imperial, so the holes to not match up exactly. So “some assembly required “ - just know that going in. Also the Haulmark doors have about a 3/16” - 1/4” offset or lip on their doors, and the Imperial hinger is bent for this offset, so to close the hinge takes some effort. Like I said, this one will work, just be ready for a few differences.

Perfect! No issues....its strong and smooth operation....and PEACE OF MIND my sidedoor will NOT come open driving 65 on the highway.

Great product, just wished it came with instructions. No instructions where ever received, noting on the original manufactures website. So you guess, tack weld, fit into place, and check operation. Took more time than needed due to lack of instructions.

other than the instructions, This product is extreme heavy duty, and will last a lifetime of a trailer. The galvanizing is thick so corrosion is not something that will be an issue during its lifetime.

For my application I preloaded the welded assemblies with a door seal. Where the compression was 1/2 total thickness around the whole door. Works great and due to the length of Turning Arm it is a breeze for even the weakest person.

Another option I would like with this product is an Un-Coated version so it could be painted easier. With my application, I painted over the Galvanizing with the knowledge that the paint will chip off. But hey, a can of Rust-oleum is cheap and application is easy.

Note: these latches only work from the outside of the trailer. If you need to active, deactivate this latch from inside, then this one is not for you application.

  • How are Spacers Used When Installing Cam-Action Lockable Door Latch Kit # PLR458-018
I attached a picture that shows the spacers lined up on the cam door latch # PLR458-018 to show you where they install. They basically install in between the top and bottom bar clamps and the latch system on top. This is designed to prevent the bar from sliding down when it's not latched. I've used these before and they have a tendency to slip down if they don't have the spacers holding them in place.

On your 5x10 enclosed trailer, the side swing door using T-Strap Hinge for Side and Rear Trailer Doors - 16" Long - Stainless Steel # PLR3416-SS is not rated for any specific size or weight. It is a great option as the length will help and then you will just need to determine how many are needed to support the weight. • Cam Style Trailer Door Latch Recommendation For Limited Clearance Area for Brackets
The big difference between the Cam Door Latch # PLR458-018 and the # PLR658-002 is the robustness of the pipe mount on the handle side. The # PLR658-002 is more for heavy duty applications and comes with bushings for the pipe to mount in. This requires a 1-5/16 inch diameter pipe and the other requires 3/4 inch diameter. That said, since you said you only have a space of 2-7/16 inches for the bottom bracket to fit you'd actually want the part # PLR258-002 instead as it has a smaller sized...

The Cam-Action Lockable Door Latch Kit for Large Enclosed Trailers # PLR458-018 you referenced will need a schedule 40 3/4" steel pipe to be welded on to the cam ends as well as the handle. Pipe Schedule is the term used to describe the thickness of a pipe. You should be able to go to your local hardware store and pick up some 3/4" steel pipe. I do recommend that a qualified welder weld everything if you are not comfortable doing it yourself. The rest of the kit will bolt to the door,...
