Video Transcript for CargoSmart X-Track Rail Review

Today we're gonna be taking a look at the Cargo Smart X-track rail. Now the X-track is gonna come in several different sizes, so it should work out for just about any type of application, and they can all be cut to fit as well. We're gonna have a five-foot length, or a 60-inch length. We've got a two-foot length, and there's also gonna be a five-inch length for just a single X-track connection point. Now the X-track is gonna offer three connection points per foot. So we're gonna have 15 on the five-foot version, we're gonna have six on the two-foot version. Our mounting holes are gonna be on two-inch centers which we'll also cover during the installation, and they're gonna be 1/4 inch circle.

So 1/4 inch or small hardware to get those attached is gonna be what you're looking for.And you'll notice our mounting holes are not in the center here, between our two connection points. So if we do need to cut this down to size, we can cut right in between those, we won't have to worry about cutting through our attachment points. Now the X-track's also gonna come in two different colors, so you can choose what's going to best match the inside of your trailer or whatever application you're gonna be using it for. You're gonna have the clear zinc finish on this feel. We're also gonna have this feel of the black powder coat finish, so you can kind of pick and choose which one you want in what application. Now also to finish up the look of your X-track, you can see the end caps here. The X-track itself is gonna stick up off of the floor by about 1/4 of an inch.

Having the nice cap here to finish that off is gonna allow us to slide items in more easily, we're gonna run less risk of us actually hitting our toe on it as we're walking around. So that's just a good way to finish it up, and it's available on our website. The X-track cargo control system allows us to use just one type of track for both vertical and horizontal mounting. Essentially, we don't have to choose anymore whether we want our anchors to be up and down or side to side. This allows us a lot of versatility, and essentially you're going to be able to strap down your cargo more safely.Take our strap here, for instance. You can see we've got it ran right down to the floor.

You can see it's this way. That's the way we want it. Now . But with older track systems, if we we're using that vertical type, this hook would have to be turned. So we'd essentially be putting most of the force on the top side of that strap, and we'd be pulling sideways against it.I really like the new design, so not only can we hook it in there this way, we can hook it in there this way.

That's gonna make it really, really versatile. If you look at the strap we have running around the front of the box here, you'll notice that we've got this strap hooked vertically, or up and down. That means we're pulling against the entire side or the entire length of this, rather than just on that upper or outer point if we had it mounted the other way.So the versatility is really really nice, and of course just like the other track systems that are out there and available, there are tons of accessories. Whether you're using X-track or E-track accessories, they're all gonna fit the X-track system. So we've got flat hooks here if you wanna hang dollys up. We're gonna have D-rings, circle rings, even a redirection bracket so you can run your strap in behind there and it almost acts as a pivot point for it. We've got storage bins, lockable storage boxes, trash cans. Here you can see just one of the many varieties of hooks that are available. This one can be put over and collapsed. And you can see that it's very easy to change these items out.For any of the accessories, we simply just pull on the tab, slide it up, in, and push it down to lock. Now that's secured in position, ready to hang anything we might want up on there, and we'll know it's gonna be in that spot when we get where we're going. With this system installed, no longer are we gonna have stuff rolling around the back of our trailer. We're not gonna have to worry about it when we get there. It's all gonna be where we left it.Now here you can see we put a couple strips of the X-track on the floor of our trailer. Seen some guys put a strip right across the back of their door. They can put the boot brush back there so you can knock any of the dirt and dust off before you get in the trailer. We're using just a little circle anchor here. That gets our generator strapped down really nicely, we won't have to worry about that moving around. So all in all, being able to use the X-track versus the E-track just adds more versatility. By adding more versatility, we're not gonna have to worry about damaging our straps, or our items moving around once we get to our destination. Now as far as the installation process goes, as we've touched on, this can be mounted horizontally, kind of like the one we've got up here. Or we can mount it vertically, up and down. I like that in the fact that you only need one type of track to go just about anywhere. We're actually here replacing some old E-track with the X-track. I also like the fact, if you look here, the holes already line up from that E-track we removed. Now these holes are gonna be on two-inch centers, so 1/4 inch hole diameter. Number 12 self-tapping screws do a real good job of keeping that in place. Each application is gonna be a little bit different, of course, depending on what you're gonna be securing to. For steel, you'll wanna use nuts and bolts, you know. For this, we're using the self-tapping screws. But you're also gonna have aluminum trailers. And doing aluminum trailers, we like to put an isolator between . you got steel, and if that gets up against aluminum, you could have some corrosion. So when we use an isolator, generally like a thick piece of rubber to go underneath it, that works out real well for us.The one thing to keep in mind is, the track's only going to be as strong as the number of fasteners that you put in it. If you just put one or two fastener in, it's not gonna be that structurally strong. I like to go every other hole in most cases with fasteners, and that gives us maximum capacity out of the X-track.Now, going into this side it's just wood. We don't have any bracing. Like here was the stud behind it, so those self-tapper screws grabbed into that. Since we don't have that out here, just wood screws down in, gonna give you a lot of security. That'll give you a nice, smooth transition. And that's gonna complete our look at the Cargo Smart X-track rail.

  • Do CargoSmart Shelf Track Brackets have a Weight Rating
  • I reached out to a representative of CargoSmart who told me the CargoSmart Shelf Track Brackets # 3481726 do not have a specific weight rating because there are so many variables in regards to how many brackets you are using, how far apart they are mounted and how the E-Track or X-Track system is mounted. I was told that if it was something relatively light, in the neighborhood of 100 lbs there would not be any type of issue but putting a specific rating on the Shelf Track Brackets # 3481726...
